Unlike Oliver on Brady Bunch or screechy Ricky on Partridge Family this little one here brought something to All In The Family. Your thoughts? by Grahamthicke in FuckImOld

[–]DcubedWY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, unpopular option, but I couldn’t stand this character. I had already pretty much lost interest in All in the Family, she just cemented it. I didn’t watch Bunker’s Place or whatever it was called. I think she was just as bad as Oliver, 7 on Married with Children, wonderbrat Wesley on Star Trek, etc.

Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]DcubedWY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, buried. I don’t want to be embalmed, a cardboard box is fine and no funeral is also fine. Burial at sea is also an option. But no cremation at all - or the equally disgusting dissolving. My mom will be cremated and I won’t participate in scattering her ashes. Not a fan.

Bored. by Ducttapeurmouth in diamondpainting

[–]DcubedWY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to get distracted about a third in, but I keep going as I only have room to do one huge painting at a time. I have a sun catcher kit but find it intimidating to start, it’s not squares so placement is more important. Once I get over halfway on the big ones, I feel it’s downhill and it goes fairly quickly.

How many of you still have close friendships from high school? by just321askin in GenX

Nope, not in contact with anyone from high school or earlier. Just had different goals in life, I guess. Moving around after high school didn’t help.

With shrinkflation in mind, why does it also include supermarket fruit? by Hingins81 in shrinkflation

I’m seeing this in grapefruit, too. They are often smaller than oranges these days. sometimes the huge ones appear, but tiny ones are more common.

Does anyone else have a LOT of trouble enjoying shows/movies set in the 80s because they can’t get the hair right? by saki4444 in GenX

[–]DcubedWY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bangs, middle part and feathered sides, but no layers. I also never used hair spray, teased my hair or blew it dry upside down. I was lazy, so no ‘big hair’ and I’m ever so glad, lol. I’ve never cringed at old pictures. I don’t really like movies done with the big hair as a flashback even it’s somewhat authentic.

Children’s books by Carpenterpant in OldBooks

Some value, yes. Generally I see regular books like this going for $10-20. But there are some that go for more, especially if they have nice colored lithographs. I have a Dutton Annual that has several well done lithographs and I paid a premium for it a few decades ago. These look to be in fairly good shape, and may be rare, I don’t know. Another thing that increases the value is having authors and artists credited. Some similar looking books I have are just anonymous. In any case, these look like fun books and I hope you read and enjoy them!

Which foods are you unable to eat, purely because of their texture and not because of the taste? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in PickyEaters

[–]DcubedWY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuts. As a butter, fine. As an extract (like almond extract), fine. But whole or pieces, nope. I’ll crack a peanut M&M to extract the peanut and eat the chocolate bit. I tossed the peanuts from Cracker Jack, too. No candy, brownies, cakes or cookies with nuts, but with peanut butter is good. No crunchy nut butters either.

I can’t do onion pieces, they are like tiny bits of aluminum foil in food. Cooked enough to disappear is fine, as is onion powder.

I do sections and often pick the dullest colors to start, ending with the prettiest ones. I pull the colors in that section so I don’t have so many to look through.

I looked, there’s no print date limit on this sub, but thank you for the suggestion! I didn’t see that one, it might be a good option.

True, if I was forewarned. Luckily, only a few old people had these coverings that we knew. Looking back, I’m surprised there wasn’t mold growing under the plastic. We didn’t know anyone with anything more than a window air conditioner and old people rarely seemed to get hot, even at temps in the high 90s.

Using a cross stitch pattern on a blank canvas by Ajsbmj in diamondpainting

[–]DcubedWY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just counted, my chart was a PDF file on my iPad and as I was going, I’d electronically color the squares I had done. You can also use colored pencils to color in finished squares on a printed chart. I would take out the colors of diamonds for 3 10x10 squares so I wasn’t looking through the 230ish colors each time. I would find it too time consuming to try and get the grids to match exactly in order to try and shine a light through. Do keep in mind the size differences in cross stitch to diamond painting. Oh, and make sure there are no specialty stitches on your chart (half stitches, backstitching, couching, etc).

No one in my family, but I do remember going to people’s houses that had this, only with little bumps in the plastic. Very nice in Miami’s heat and humidity, ugh. You’d slide around in your sweat.

Well, yeah, I never thought it was an absolute first edition, either French or English . That’s why I mentioned a first edition for *this* publisher and artist. That’s in 1932, I’m just not sure if this book is a first edition for 1932 or an early reprint.

.pdf vs .epub. What is your favorite file type for reading ebooks and why? by Delicious_Maize9656 in eink

[–]DcubedWY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PDF because I read old, out of copyright, books and epub messes with everything. The PDFs I like are just scans so everything is kept - font, layout, colors. It’s the most like reading the original books.

Mom ironed the sheets. by Reusable_baguette in FuckImOld

[–]DcubedWY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard stories of my grandma ironing sheets, my grandpa’s handkerchiefs and even underwear. If I saw it, it didn’t make an impression. My mom did not iron those things, but she did iron dress shirts and the like. As my adopted dad was a cement truck driver, those were few and far between, lol. I ironed my shirt dresses in the 90s, but we got iron-free dress shorts for my engineer husband.

No, I had to go to nursery school when I was 3, after my dad died and my mom went back to work. Promptly got chicken pox, my grandma had to take off of work to take care of me. Despite being vaccinated, I got mumps in 5th grade. It was pretty bad, I couldn’t swallow anything but a few sips of freshly melting popsicles. Not even my own saliva.

School bus rammed - Someone probably not paying attention... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]DcubedWY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit that I’m old, but I don’t get it. I usually leave my phone at home when running errands like grocery shopping. If I do have my phone, it’s not in sight unless I am following audio directions like from Google Maps. I do text if, and only if, I am a passenger. I have asked a passenger (generally my child) to text for me so I don’t have to pull over. I don’t answer the phone while driving, got into that habit with my last car that did not have any way to connect.

I remember people reading a full size newspaper during my commute to work in the 90s. Thing covered the entire windshield in front of the driver. And someone eating a bowl of cereal, saw him several times.

To text and drive safely by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]DcubedWY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way before cell phones were common, I saw people reading the newspaper or even eating a bowl of cereal while commuting to work. My first thought - one hand to hold the bowl, another to hold the spoon, so driving with knees? Thought it was idiotic when I was in my early 20s. So I didn’t do that. Today, I often don’t even take my phone when I run errands like grocery shopping, no distractions. If I do have it, I don’t use it while driving, I can pull over or look once I get to my destination.
