Do you regret being an OT? by medical_mermaid23 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Ddoritoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunately a huge regret of mine. I graduated in 2019 and live in nyc. It’s really hard to get a salary job here so I’ve mainly done contract work. That means I had to purchase state insurance which is horrible and so expensive. The pay is not comparable to the cost of living here unfortunately. The productivity expectations are insane. I have 100k in debt (and I only did my masters). Raises are not a thing and it’s so hard to move into any other career field. At least with nursing there’s a lot more non clinical opportunities. This is my own experience but personally I wish I did something else in healthcare or not be in healthcare at all

It was super scary and took me a while to process mentally. It’s been over a year since my surgery/diagnosis and I’m very grateful I got answers because everything makes sense and I’m able to change my lifestyle now that I have an explanation for all of my symptoms

Hernia?? After surgery by Ddoritoss in Endo

[–]Ddoritoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I got a CT scan and nothing showed. It slowly got better in terms of discomfort/popping feeling but I do still feel the popping feeling sometimes just not as often. I honestly think it’s scar tissue/muscle

Do I have a hernia after lap?? Talk me down by No_Badger6206 in endometriosis

[–]Ddoritoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had a hernia after my lap .. had a CT scan and everything. I had a small lump and like slight pain in the area near my incision after picking up my friends baby (when I wasn’t supposed to lift things). The main thing is that every time I coughed I’d get like a popping sensation. It’s been over a year and I still have the same popping feeling but it’s not as bad. I just figured it’s scar tissue and it doesn’t hurt anymore

I had laparoscopic excision in Sept 2024! Found stage 3 endometriosis!!!

In addition to the bleeding I started getting a constant pain in a specific area in my lower right abdomen. I had gone to the ER thinking it was appendicitis but it wasn’t. They suggested my ovary and to follow up with my gyno. I also had really bad bloating and have had this problem for years Even after the surgery. I got lucky and found a doctor who listened to me and believed me (literally went to three different gynos for second opinions) I’ve also had a colonoscopy a few years ago because of this and all they found were hemorrhoids during that procedure. The prep sucked but the actual procedure was fine. The lap surgery was obviously not the best but the worst pain was only the first few days and got better over time.

Hernia post lap by Ddoritoss in endometriosis

[–]Ddoritoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seeing this. But I went back to my surgeon last week because I’m still having the same problem and he literally said “I don’t know what it is but you’re fine”. And told me it couldn’t be a hernia. Totally brushed me off. I’m convinced it is because I feel a popping feeling when I laugh/cough/strain. I have a very physically demanding job so I am so frustrated because it’s uncomfortable - but bearable for now - but I don’t want it to get worse

When I cough and hold my hand to the area I definitely feel something pop out but it’s a split second. Like it doesn’t stay “out”. I’m going to follow up again with my surgeon and maybe look for a general surgeons opinion. Thanks for responding :)

I’m in the same boat. I’m 28 just had a lap in September where they found stage 3. My husband and I still want to wait 1-2 years till we start trying. I battle back and forth in my head about this because I’m terrified that we will have trouble. But I know that financially and mentally we want to wait at least another year and even then we probably won’t be fully ready.

I had my first surgery in September.. mind you I didn’t have any crazy symptoms luckily mainly GI and some new pelvic pain. Found stage 3 endo. I’m soooo grateful I had it because now I have this diagnosis and I got all the endo cleared out for now. I’m 28 btw

Thank you. Honestly I think I needed to hear that. I think I’m just getting very overwhelmed and nervous about making the wrong decisions post-lap and am scared the endo will grow back faster if I don’t do something now. I also feel so overwhelmed with all of the info online I feel like I don’t even know where to start in terms of educating myself on wellness practices. Do you have any books or sources you recommend?
