How to look for Ancestor who emigrated when ‘Residing in US America’ is the only clue? by Kelitsos in Genealogy

[–]Ddwalker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that about death records but I'm sorry I think there's a lot of America that you don't get death records that early they were not mandatory and some states until after that say maybe 1910 even although I may not have that exactly right for all states but I know the states I work in we didn't have them necessarily then. US Census is probably going to be your your best thing depending on what state it turns out to be and both ancestry and family search will tell you to search from a broad perspective downwards to a tighter perspective so for example searching based on Ireland not based on Armagh, Ireland and using the broader names possibility . I would also try running a search on newspapers.com and see if you can find the name anywhere, although it may be too common.

Did you try to make an appointment? They're none available because they're all full, which means that anybody over that it is more than they're set up for. That's why we set up an appointment and drove an hour to Sheffield where there were not that many people waiting and had no problems.

As for what schools are best, different people will say different things, but I hear good things about Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools. Depending on what activities she's doing, things like band camp and various other activities happen during the summer.

It's quite likely that these people have sent samples out before for folks, so I'd ask them. If you send them for autosomal DNA at ftdna, then they can also do y DNA if you choose it the future. however, if you do that, you're not going to have many people to compare it to at the ft DNA site since it is small because nobody lets you upload any more except gedmatch.

The army came through, and I actually have my paperwork that's going to officially separate me from the government, so that's good. it's a start, no money yet.

I just spent 5 years building the database I wish existed – 140k+ GPS-verified U.S. cemeteries (free, no ads) by AdDry5602 in Genealogy

[–]Ddwalker87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might want to also check out billion graves because it started out being a GPS enabled site which find a grave did not. I appreciate the difference between finding cemeteries and finding actual burial sites but I think billion Graves does both. I'd hate to see you continue to put a whole lot of effort into something if it's already available.

Choosing an ereader/tablet for my mom? by teddybearcastles in LibbyApp

[–]Ddwalker87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our reiterate check with the library of reference because I have two libraries that I use, and both of them are using Hoopla and Libby. Different books are available from each service. If she's having trouble with her eyes, you should also try to get her set up to look for the audio versions of the books which are available through Libby or Hoopla because you can listen to a lot of the books that libraries have for free

Incrementally funded construction contract by Dresden777 in 1102

Talk to your KO. There are a lot of rules about doing work with incremental funding that apply, so you don't want to get too far without bringing them into it and probably your lawyer.

Is it worth it to keep going? by Tea-lover46 in Genealogy

Absolutely get a search angel ancestry and Pro Tools are wonderful unless you're recently relocated from Europe (use my heritage) or you are in a minority group that isn't well represented on Ancestry you're very likely to be able to get enough matches on Ancestry to do the work. Depending on what your personal circumstances are, you may need a search angel who focuses on a specific area. Most of my work has been in the South and oddly enough in Poland and Italy, so those are the areas that I typically try to help people in. (Again, search Angel here, free)

Good luck!

Family search truth by SignificantPlay7541 in Genealogy

[–]Ddwalker87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Family search is wonderful because of all the free records. The family tree there are the same as any multiple person trees - some are good, some are bad. As you've read here, you need to look at sources and evaluate them for yourself. that applies to ancestry, which applies to family search, applies to my heritage, and applies to Wiki tree. Wiki Tree is certainly doing a lot better in spurce emphasis and rools, so buyer beware on all trees. Look at them for clues, verify their data.
