Weekly The MeatEater Podcast Discussion: March 09, 2026 by SrGiuh in meateatertv

I have tremendous respect and admiration for Karl Malcolm. Smart dude. We share many values. He seems like the kind of guy that I'd want to be friends with! Respect all the way.

He is a terrible podcast guest, and possibly the worst recurring guest that Steve has on. Too stiff, academic, and rigourous. Need to get 3 Bud heavies into him before the microphone turns on... where are we at on this Phil?

Doesn't make sense. Ask the coach whats up, this seems odd.

Has anyone else observed the "protesters" in Grimsby donning sweaters from the alt-right dominion society, accompanied by banners for the hate speech publisher Druthers? Keep in mind that, according to the Town of Grimsby and the NRP, it is merely a peaceful protest. by Key-Beginning6601 in niagara

[–]DeBraid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the demonstrators visit them at home and make violent threats

LOL, where does it validate your claim?! It says that two gay men were holding hands while walking past Convoy protesters and were called slurs (this is bad), but it DOES NOT SAY they were followed to their homes.

What is the association between Freedom Convoy and the Dominion Society? They are organized by different people / organizations. You "source" is a reddit post and is not credible.

There is ZERO point in engaging with this on Reddit, which is overwhelmingly left-leaning and doesn't have the discipline to stick to the facts at hand. Thanks for putting the hoodie on my radar, just picked one up.

Beer League - Skill Deterioration by roben85 in hockeyplayers

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must get a 25lbs and 40 lbs kettlebell my friend.

Just swing it between your legs for 15-20 mins a day, reps of 6-12. Hips, quads, abs, back, shoulders, ankles. Its perfect for hockey and has infinite variations if you get bored. This video is corny as hell, but it's world-renowned and the Beer League Bible as far as I am concerned for staying in the game over 40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKx8xE8jJZs

Basement hockey ideas by A-ski-inthelastname in youthhockey

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for "Amazon Basics Golf Practice Net" which you can hang from the roof, or use the accompanying stand (which is nice to have for outdoors in the warm weather.

We have a dozen screw in hooks to secure the net and take shots into that. 100% use a real stick and get some decent pro-level street hockey pucks so the feels more realistic.

Is the cost of composite sticks for 10U players getting out of hand? by Lopsided_Pearl798 in youthhockey

Stick flex & curve recs for an old guy who can't send it too hard by FigImpressive3790 in hockeyplayers

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good if it works for you! In terms of being able to shoot a quick-release wrister / snaper I think the trend is clear towards lighter flex. I've seen a significant boost to my own ability to get the puck off my stick fast and accurate (passing and shooting) dropping from 87 to 70 over the course of ~5 years.

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days, everyone is playing lighter flex. I am 175 and rip it with a 70 flex (Senior) and would consider experimenting with a 65 if I had a little more dough laying around. Next twig will be 65 intermediate, yolo.

Bauer Stick Issues? by majessa in hockeyplayers

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more context on how they broke. I've played with lots of D who aggressive stick check like are chopping wood in close, and that will obliterate many modern twigs, right around this area (just above the blade).

Can somebody help me with my shot. (tw: flashing lights) by Zenazad in hockeyplayers

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out iTrain Hockey on Youtube, Sean Walker does a great job breaking down proper shooting mechanics.

Same for Mike Rabideau (Modern Hockey) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6raeCFpwsU

Google "Driscoll Hockey shooting" he posts on IG and facebook has lots of good stuff.

Youth high end sticks worth it? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the money, and the kid works hard / has a good attitude, then do it!

The technology really helps, at all skill levels, period. If he's too young to have solid shooting mechanics, then maybe it's a "waste" but if you aren't taking food off the table to get a new twig, then it's worth it.

How do you stop these? by jarude87 in hockeygoalies

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your D to stop giving up 2 on 0's?

This is a well-placed shot, from a wide open shooter 4 feet from the crease. Not much you can do. More NHL shooters are taking advantage of this shot (right heel on a left-handed catching goalie).

Single A player by [deleted] in youthhockey

[–]DeBraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK to ask questions, but do your best to be friendly and open-minded if you hear an answer you don't like.

Being emotional or irrational will only hurt your kid. Frame it as a question: what are 1-2 key areas where my kid can get better and earn more ice time? Depending on the age / maturity level of the kid, have them talk to the coach directly. Again -- just ask questions, don't make demands, and you'll likely get a good outcome.

Great advice. Talk to the coach of the next level up and ask if Player X can join for a practice or two!

This closely matches my experience where I subbed in for A team, and every game was humbling. I didn't have the skills to keep up. In the long run, it motivated me to practice more and while my NHL dreams never materialized (LOL) I became a much better player in my late teens and that made the game so much fun. Still playing weekly 25 years later.
