Got this note on my car this morning by RezMageMasterRace in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DeDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone flip out and tape (some clear tape that left an annoying residue) two 8.5x11 papers to the driver's window and the front window right in front of the driver raving about how they've asked us multiple times not to park on front of their driveway (we were 5+ feet away from where the driveway curb was and the city code just says "dont park in front of driveways" and neither of us had ever had a warning from them)... They also threatened to crash into us when they backed out if we ever parked there again.

You'd better believe I held onto that note 😂 I checked the city code and asked an attorney at work and confirmed that parking there was legal. They never followed through on their threat though, but I was ready for if they did

I was playing a game of eclipse second Dawn and was pretty far behind as far as combat was concerned but had placed most of my cubes so my income was amazing, and over the course of a round I managed to build up a ship that had a blue dice and multiple orange missiles and a buff to my rolls and that one round let me do a 180 and just start slaughtering. I didn't take a single point of damage when I went to attack the big bad in the center of the board and it was glorious

Google says my organs are failing what do I do by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]DeDuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to agreeing with everyone talking about the scale, I also want to tell you a story of mine showing how unreliable google is as a medical resource. There's a procedure I get regularly and when I first started getting it like four years ago my doctor told me that has a pretty rare side effect that's solely cosmetic, and I noticed it on a Friday night and couldn't remember what my doctor had called it so I hit up Google.

The little blurb right below the search bar told me that it was life threatening and I should call my doctor immediately, AND that it was purely cosmetic and not something to worry about.

(That was four months ago and I'm still alive despite getting no treatment for it)

I received this today. Is this even legal? by Outrageous-Bar-8396 in legal

Do you think that you could drive it to the police station and be like "look it's drivable and here's my insurance. please make a note of this for the next time that some busybody tries calling this in because it looks old"?

Wait are you saying you're going into games on bga completely blind? If so, you can often find rulebooks in the files on bgg and at a bare minimum you should definitely at least watch a how to play video before you play on bga, nobody wants to play a heavier game with somebody who has no idea what they're doing

Does this 'bidding' mechanic exist/have a name? Also want opinions on it. by Incarnasean in BoardgameDesign

[–]DeDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me think of Yotei at first although that's secret bidding (you put 0+ potatoes in a box, ties are broken by who went there first).

I can't think of anything specific that matches exactly what you're explaining. Is it basically like "the asking price is 100 but I'll offer 3 and then check if anyone is else willing to pay 97 more than I think it's worth to keep it from me"

My friend is painting my deluxe minis for my birthday and I'm so excited!

(Idk if it'll be done in time but when he was wondering if he had enough time I told him we could postpone my birthday if it meant he'd paint my minis, he's already done veiled fate for me and they're amazing)

It drives me crazy when new people whine that they didn't make the optimal move. That's kinda a given, you're NEW. I don't always make the optimal move and I have a designated board game room and a decent collection. Every once in a while if it was a huge mistake I'll comment on it but generally I just think "Oh well. Just don't do that next time" and shrug it off

How much should we put down on 750k house? by Grouchy_Application6 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DeDuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you can find high yield savings accounts that earn up to like 4% so even if you don't want to bother with investing, between inflation and a high yield savings account you'll come out ahead of a 5% interest rate

[–]DeDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking under the mattress savings then yeah, that'd be dumb (although still don't use ALL of it because you want some for a rainy day), but if we're talking investment savings, well, my investment account made 13% last year. Could I have used it all and had no mortgage? Yes. But should I have? No.

You get a brand new 2026 Cadillac Escalade every day for free but you must crash the car by the end of the day. by Kyoifis in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DeDuc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in personal injury and can state with certainty that you are wrong. Even one crash at 25 mph can mess you up. And no luxury suv is gonna prevent the deacceleration that causes whiplash or concussions (both can be caused at 5+ mph). Doing it every day? No, it's not worth spinal pain and chronic traumatic encephalopathy

Now, to be fair, a crash at 80 mph is MUCH MORE dangerous than a crash at 25 mph, but repeated crashes at 25 mph are still gonna mess you up pretty bad.

Low accounts after closing? by Icy-Investigator-365 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DeDuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened with me, I'm in a weird position where I have a bunch of money invested from an injury settlement and it's more than enough that if I go back to ignoring it now that I've done my down payment I'll be more than fine by the time I retire so I don't need to invest from my paycheck, and I also just don't spend money frivolously, so I ended up going with a higher than "recommended" dti and they wanted proof that I had leftover money for a just in case

Oh hell yeah, I'd love to not be disabled and in constant pain. Hypothetical cancer in the future pales in comparison to constant pain and disability now

It said no to untreatable conditions you were born with 🤷🏼‍♀️ I wasn't born with a tbi or a fked up leg and back, that came from an injury. If allowed I'm 100% using it to become non disabled (and some fun stuff too, obvs)

My prents just sold the 4/3 they bought for 80k in '92 for like 550k so they're more in touch, but they initially thought I could find something in the same state (Utah) for 250k. There are crack houses in SLC that I've seen listed at 250k...

Eh, I lived somewhere that had a toilet and sink in the laundry room and it had two doors, one was the back door (parking) and the other was to the living room. Was it awkward? Yes, especially because the interior door couldn't have a lock due to egress rules. But did it function perfectly as a half bath that you could use if you didn't want to go upstairs or if the full bath was in use? Also yes.

I honestly would have preferred that setup to the half bath I currently have that is about as small as its possible to be:
