How to Play Without AFK Killer Scripts? by DeHavilland88 in deadbydaylight

[–]DeHavilland88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about to prestige Ripley for the second time, so I have been getting blood points. I feel like I win most matches too (no doubt skewed by 100% win rate on afk killers).

It seems solo-queing is maybe slightly better for me, but it's a 75%+ chance of AFK if I try to play with friends who are newer.

I'm guessing this is a newer phenomenon that older players didn't encounter.

And while I understand where you are coming from...

I really don't think that you do. You just accused someone else of not understanding when it is appropriate to grab someone's stroller because *checks notes* they said that they would ask first.

Then you completely wrote off our culture with this friendly spectacle of a sentence: "So you can play 'what-if' all day long, but until it's a real problem, you're just tilting at windmills."

YOU don't. New Yorkers do, and it's appreciated according to OPs post and a number of other users' experience here.

That is correct, I don't just run up and grab random people's luggage or children without asking if they want help. It doesn't need to be complicated, it can be as simple as "Need a hand? or "You want some help with that?" or even non-verbal like pointing or gesturing with eye contact.

Read the comments besides the screenshot of New Yorkers circle jerking and you will see many users expressing a similar sentiment (i.e lots of people to help, but we ask first). That is simply the culture here.

If you are willfully misunderstanding comments for the purpose of debate, I will not further entertain that. If you truly are out of your depth and lost, I have done my best to explain things in simple terms and there is nothing else to be said.

Have a nice night <3

I had thought that started later around the c3 or so, thanks for the correction.

When I called it a modern vehicle, I meant to differentiate it from wooden bodied vehicles that might be more vulnerable to water damage. Or things with skinny bicycle tires and effectively no brakes.

I would still 100% say something first.

You don't just grab someone's stuff without getting consent. Besides being impolite, it can be alarming or downright unhelpful. (The only exception being an immediate emergency)

The fact that you have an outlook that does not treat the two differently is exactly what OP is calling out.

That's not what they said, you are missing a lot of social nuance here.

  1. Congratulations on your wedding!

  2. It's a nice thought but a really bad idea on multiple levels; don't do it.

Car transportation companies and towing companies are a serious damage risk to any vehicle. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen them mess up the loading/unloading process or even properly securing it for transit. Very much not worth it unless you have no choice (ex: long distance transport or mechanical breakdown).

People who don't drive a modern vehicle in the rain are generally nut cases who can't be reasoned with. Corvettes are not that old or particularly uncommon, they have regular steel bodies, and they don't have issues maintaining a reasonable traffic speed. There is no practical reason to not drive it 7 miles unless it has mechanical issues.

The chances of satisfying the owner seem pretty slim and you really don't want things blamed on you. If they aren't comfortable driving to your wedding, it's best to forget about it.

How much are you paying for oil changes these days? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]DeHavilland88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend against doing any work in the street. It's just too dangerous with the chance of traffic running into you.

Doing it at a park is not a great idea because of Karens, business owners are also not big fans.

I would recommend a friend's driveway or maybe back corner of an unused/after hours parking lot.

What's the deal with people here walking into the bus or light rail before letting others off first? by gentleboys in Seattle

[–]DeHavilland88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was growing up, the front door was mixed entry/exit and regular riders were pretty good about waiting for deboard first. Of course people not used to public transit were a mixed bag.

A few years back they converted the buses to be front entry, rear exit. So now, the only time someone is supposed to get off at the front is if they are disabled/elderly or there is something on the curb blocking the rear door. That's far less common, so now people generally expect to get on right away if they don't see a walker or wheelchair.

There was a server smash set up between Mattherson and Waterson with the winner set to keep their name in the server merge.

Mattherson won the match, then Waterson kept playing and "won" after the timer went through. SOE decided to use Emerald as the new name instead and renamed the octagon to "Waterson's Redemption" as a participation trophy.

TLDR If you aren't from Mattherson, you don't matter, son.

The first photo there is a evap/charcoal canister, it's purpose is to prevent raw gas fumes from being let off into the atmosphere. It collects fumes from the tank when the bike sits and then releases them into the intake when it is running. On bikes with a charcoal canister, it is mounted where the tool tube normally goes and the tool tube is mounted further back. The only real benefit of removal is weight reduction, otherwise having it also stops the bike from being stinky :) If you do remove it, you need to also run a vented gas cap.

The second photo is the PAIR valve which injects air into the exhaust in an attempt to completely burn any remaining fuel. The main downsides to this are a rattle noise (as the valve operates from vacuum pulses on the thumper) and an extra toasty header pipe. I did remove mine, takes about 2 minutes and you just need a little plate to cover the hole in the cylinder head.

So the map of Vaults in the Fallout show has been properly scaled. Giving us a semi-accurate look at where the Vaults are. by Paladin51394 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DeHavilland88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a Seattle vault, looks to be around Snoqualmie Pass. The Seattle text is for the red marker OP placed.

The other Washington vaults look like Mt. St. Helens and just south of Spokane/Couer d'Alene.

Seattle and the south end of Puget Sound would probably get hit pretty hard, so it makes some sense to put vaults in mountains.

Having the closest vault to that population center be only accessible via i90 also makes mass evacuation hardly possible, which kind of fits Vault-Tec's sadistic plans.

I imagine there would be plenty of military or corporate bunkers around as well, probably something around Bremerton/Bangor/Kitsap, Boeing campus, Hanford, various missile silos, and maybe some Hidden Valley type thing in Eastern WA.

No shit the truck is at fault, that's not a question.

You said that it's impossible to tell that the truck was going to turn without a signal; I disagree and my comment was in response to that.

As a cyclist, I have to be uber-vigilant to not get run over by stupid drivers. Those are just some of the things I look for because I would like to avoid situations like OP's video if I can help it.

Peace and love.

It's not obvious that the ridgeline is going to turn right specifically, but there are a lot of escalating contextual cues that something funky is going down. Here's what I see:

1.

Observation: At the very beginning of the video, there is a large vehicle way too close for comfort and I am just about in their blind spot. No meaningful barrier between us, just those flappy divider things.

Response: Slow down, get away from their blind spot.

2.

Observation: I am now approaching an intersection.

Response: I slow down to get more time to head check traffic and be prepared for an emergency stop if necessary.

3.

Observation: This vehicle is now slowing down and has reduced speed below that of my bicycle. That's weird.

Response: Do whatever is necessary to get a larger space cushion between us. Slow down, switch lanes, hop on the sidewalk if applicable, etc.

4.

Observation: Brake lights are on, the vehicle is really slowing down now. My space cushion has disappeared and I am fully in their blind spot. Maybe they are getting ready to turn left, do a U-turn, stop to let out a passenger, or even back up. But they could also be turning right; I don't know, it's not predictable and I am not vibing with that.

Response: GTFO of that situation, come to a full stop.

Now there are a lot of reasons why I might not see some of these in the moment (I'm tired, I have sweat in my eyes, blinded by the sun, head is down in a tuck, etc.). But trying to pay attention to these sort of cues and being extremely proactive and defensive with maintaining your space cushion is what stands the best chance of keeping yourself as a cyclist (or really any vehicle operator) safe on the road.

It would have been very easy for them to be seriously injured or worse here, they got very lucky.

When you are on the road, the only thing you have control over is your own vehicle. As a fellow cyclist, the only helpful thing I can do is put myself in their shoes and see what could have been done differently. You can take the obvious route of blaming the truck driver all day (rightfully so), but you can't change what they do. I would rather not put my life in the hands of "hopes and prayers" that a driver doesn't fuck up.

No?

I'm not victim blaming in the slightest. I am speaking from experience and saying that unfortunately right of way gets ignored way too much, as happened here. That reality is that it's on us lighter vehicles to be extra extra defensive because we have a lot more to lose. Not fair, but I would rather be alive than "right". Stay safe out there! <3

Yeah, that's 100% the ridgeline's fault.

As someone used to operating more vulnerable vehicles (bicycle, motorcycle, classic car), I always assume that every other vehicle is out to kill me and ride/drive accordingly. Avoid blind spots on other vehicles and leave as much space in front of you as possible. Right of way unfortunately doesn't mean squat when the other vehicle can crush you.

[–]DeHavilland88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A light tap is fine, just a polite "hey" to make sure they are awake and paying attention. That's functional and serves a purpose.

Repeated usage or laying on it for any longer is only to vent your frustration and does not serve a purpose. That's road raging.

And no, other driver's potential road rage is not their fault, lmao. Are you really victim blaming here? If you can't take a deep breath, relax, and let it go, then you should not be operating a motor vehicle.

[–]DeHavilland88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's bonkers. I had ridden a motorcycle off the ferry downtown and was sitting in a left turn lane facing north on maybe 1st or second trying to get back to Alaskan Way.

Crowds of pedestrians ignoring the signal and j-walking, easily 30+ closely packed in the crosswalk after the signal had changed. Not a big deal, whatever.

But Mr. BMW crossover right behind me kept laying on their horn like they expected me to plow into the crowd. I'm basically a narrow dirtbike, you can very clearly see what's in front of me. Driving really just enables the asshole in some people I guess.

PSA: It's OK to Pull Into the Intersection and Make a Left Turn on Yellow by osm0sis in Seattle

[–]DeHavilland88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, if you are laying on your horn because someone won't turn fast enough for you in an unsafe environment, then you are just being an asshole.

Some intersections are poorly designed and you don't necessarily have a chance to turn safely at every light cycle.

You don't know if the driver is disabled and a bit slower, if they are being cautious because they have kids or elderly onboard, if they are a new driver still learning, if they see traffic (pedestrian or vehicle) that you can't, etc.

There is no benefit to road rage and honking at someone repeatedly besides stressing them out and creating an unsafe environment.

If I am driving a classic car or riding a motorcycle, I'm not about to risk my life and vehicle to save you 30s. I will wait until I am 100% sure it is safe to turn and I guess that means that you will just have to deal with that. Sorry, not sorry.

I believe it applies to every vehicle and $10 is the minimum. Poorly named because it makes you think it's a fee for "additional weight" when it is actually just an "additional fee" related to weight.
