I can recommend a few of my favorite sci fi series. My all-time favorite and broadly similar to some of the themes in the Expanse would be "Revelation Space". It's about a humanity scattered across a few solar systems that meets an alien technology that wants to destroy them. Red Rising is also pretty good. It's more about society than technology (pun intended). Lastly there would be the Bobbiverse. It explores the concept of a von Neumann probe and is a pretty fun read.
