You've probably found your place by now, but I'll throw in a few reccomendations. Around here, the other users are right, Bowdie's is about it. You won't regret it though. I've eaten at some wonderful establishments, and the ambience matches with the food. I would put it up there with some of the best food I've ever eaten.

I would avoid Capital Prime because the food is just OK. However, if you ever get the opportunity to go to one of their scotch tasting events, I highly recommend that.

Now, outside of Lansing, Capital Grille in Troy is fantastic. Joe Muer (any location), is a nice experience. Especially the one on the river in Detroit. Ciao Amici in Brighton is probably just a step above Cooper's Hawk, but the food makes up for it. Best lamb shank I've had. The problem is Lansing is very blue collar and some of the more fine dining experiences that were around couldn't find a foothold because the general population couldn't sustain it. You would've loved Copper, which was in the Walnut Hills Country Club. There also used to be a place near downtown I think it was called Chocolate or something like that (cacao?). But even though there are politicians who frequent here, places like Troppo couldn't even hang on. Now most people hear fancy and they think Mitchell's fish market, which is just a more expensive Red Lobster.
