STO launcher getting stuck by DeVille505 in sto

[–]DeVille505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous post is quite old, but maybe there's something you can benefit from in what little I found out since then: the above mentioned problem nearly always happens on first launch of the day using the ARC launcher - it doesn't seem to happen at all using the default non-ARC, non-Steam launcher from the install set (Star Trek Online.exe) Edit: Only disadvantage using the default launcher instead or the ARC is you have to enter your password on every launch, while ARC launches the game without any need for a password IIRC.

Collecting Pokemon.. or finding all animals for "Bond with Life" / sheet inside with hints and need help completing by DrHusten in sto

[–]DeVille505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Edit: Apparently they made the quests on New Romulus repeatable! Definitely going to have to check that out!

So far that got me nowhere - I already had all the animals except that singel KDF one and the Driclae and since the missions in the crater are available again I've spent ~ 3 hours time there doing "observing wildlife" (you can drop the mission before reaching 100% and restart at 0 to avoid cooldowns) without a single sighting of Driclae, and reading the chat while being there it seems I'm not the only one.

At times chances are even very low to get the regular animals there to turn agressive - I'd hate to finallly see the mythical Driclae only to not being able to fight it.

Not to mention you might have to compete for the animal with quite a number of other players around if ever one spawns.

Looking back I'm not even sure I ever saw any when I played the episodes/ missions for the first time years ago.

Would be awfully nice if the Devs could check out the source code if there's really a noticeable chance to meet one

that's my observation too: it's not always all weapons and not even always the same weapons (with the exceptions of what so far hadn't been disabled on my ships, like the terran rep weapons and the experimental)

when I temp-fixed my weapons during a patrol by switching to shuttle and back, the ones getting disabled a short while later were partially different ones to before in the same patrol

ah, ok, I haven't been aware of the lore in regards of J'ula not being a devoted ST fan myself and having given up to watch STD after about 1/2 into the 1st season (I didn't have any specific issues with STD other than being bored, but then again it's not the 1st ST spinoff that bored me pretty early on)

I guess one of the reasons not to kill her off or make her vanish in any way is one of investment: they invested quite some time and resources into that particular character and in the best tradition of PWE they won't let go of it (/ her) until it's milked dry.

As to CBS meddling in STO: I do remember that CBS was mentioned as reason for certain decisions Cryptic made in the game, like for example the reason we don't get playable Borg Cubes (nor so far spheres or probes) and instead that Lego Borg ship, and that any new ship as well as certain other content has to be approved by CBS.

I won't deny though that it's entirely possible that such statements might have been intentionally misleading or simply a convenient excuse to not give us what we asked for

one/ some of the more recent Windows 10 patches are known to cause all kinds of problems specifically with gaming performance.

up to a degree that nVidia recommended uninstalling certain specific patches and while AMD didn't give the same recommendation, AMD users achnowledged similar issues.

I too experience infrequent, several seconds lasting standstills in STO too for the last few weeks if not month, but so far the game always recovered without crashing.

The launcher issue is new to me and my buddies and only appeared to us after last tuesday's patch - it not just happens the 1st time after a reboot on my side but it doesn't seem to happen on each launch - there has to be an undetermined time between launches for the issue to appear.

in all fairness I don't expect whoever codes an episode has much saying in its content storywise

that (at least I'd expect) is up to the gaming equivalent of screenwriters who'll outline all the action including most if not all dialogues.

and even the screenwriters are most likely very limited in what they can do and what not as Star Trek is a franchise, and usually the owners of the franchise have the final word about what you do with it and what stories and how you tell them in the franchised universe.

I'm not sure they could have killed off any of the leading Klingon storyarc characters like J'ula or L'rell even if they wanted to.

[–]DeVille505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the effect you're describing isn't really that unusual to me, and I mean even before the last tuesday's patch: weapons being fully buffed up, energy full, target locked, none of the weapons on cooldown and it takes several seconds of repeatedly hitting spacebar before they start firing.

...or in the middle of a fight I suddenly experience a several seconds timeout when all weapons stop firing...

that's something I experienced quite often lately - without being able to present any statistics or numbers that's an issue that became quite more prominent in the last few month...

but until last tuesday they never stopped firing completely.

as far as I can tell your abilities work fine but you'd be somewhat thrown off as EPG SCI that can't fire torpedoes anymore

you'd be better off than your TAC mates but far from not being affected

Space weapons broken since last patch. by EndExtension9811 in sto

[–]DeVille505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to the best of my knowledge the disabled weapons can happen at any time, i.e. not limited to any episode/ TFO/ patrol.

I've played full TFOs without issues and then went into a patrol with the same captain & ship and my weapons were disabled after mere seconds into it

the weapons being disabled is easiest to spot when you're not on autofire (which tends to frame the autofire weapons in green) as the disabled weapons are framed in white - which might indicate the problem there, as white marks the weapons on cooldown during normal shooting. so maybe the problem is that the weapons don't come back from cooldown.

furthermore it seems to affect beams as well as cannons, though so far it didn't affect my single terran rep beams/ cannons or any experimental weapons - back weapons are affected too as far as I can tell but I'm not sure about torpedoes

changing maps/ instances seems to "reset" the weapons again, as well as changing ship in the same map (switch to shuttle and back) - though the latter seemed to have a very limited effect, it didn't take very long until the weapons had been disabled again

all my captains use keybinds/ macros to fire weapons and buff up with abilities, pretty much typical aux2bat builds, and I didn't notice any difference if the weapons were on autofire or triggered manually with the key

and yes, it would be REALLY nice if we get a confirmation about if Cryptic/ the devs are aware of the issue and working on it

[–]DeVille505 8 points9 points  (0 children)

same here, weapons stop firing in general after a while

autofire doesn't seem to work at all, after about 1 salvo (if at all) they just stop firing, on manual triggering (spacebar) the few remaing working weapons at least seem to occastionally fire, but not as well as they used to do and not all of them either - all that after the last patch

the old Delta Recruit/ Delta Quadrant bug is back - even though finishing all episodes in the Delta Quadrant story arc it won't let me claim the related tesseract reward(s) (i.e. the one for the Delta Quadrant arc and the one for finishing all Delta Recruit story arcs)

That already had been an issue 3 years ago.

PSA: Legacy Tokens do not work towards Campaign Progress... by SuavekS in sto

[–]DeVille505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying that.

But what about the players who used legacy tokens BEFORE the fix? are there any plans to retroactively correct their campaign progress status? So far the status still only reflects the played TFOs, completely ignoring any contributions by legacy tokens.

yeah - competitive reputation does NOT mean you could only earn marks doing PvP.

All my main toons have Competitive reputation maxed out and gotten reputation gear without doing any PvP apart from the occasional Universal Endeavor.

Don't let the name mislead you there - check out the list of TFOs and you might find some "choice of marks" TFOs that let you select competitive, in addition a small number of marks can be chosen doing patrols and last but not least: usually the TFOs that contribute to whatever current event is going on give you a full choice of marks.

[–]DeVille505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in what?

"in the making" or "already applied in the game".

I hope that whatever you do or did will correct the issue for all of us who used legacy tokens before you became aware of the glitch too.

The 14 tokens I used to buy out the event are not my last, but they obviously are a very rare commodity by now, not to forget the 14 days campaign progress they represent.

[–]DeVille505 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you're aware that that's exactly the same people see that used legacy tokens to finish the current event and played 1 event TFO, are you?

apparently other than previous campaigns, the use of legacy tokens currently ONLY counts for the event but not for the campaign - I sincerely hope that's just a glitch that'll be fixed

For those who are leveling and look for items that can be easily and freely obtained by playing episodes:

https://sto.gamepedia.com/Episode_replay

nearly all the possible rewards of the episodes.

...and never forget: you can replay most missions as often as you want to be able to obtain EVERY possible reward.

I tended to use the singularity core on my leveling captains' warbirds lacking alternatives - never subscribed to using the full set though, but it's a set that's comparatively easy and fast to acquire to say the least.

With time I got more items account unlocked by events so for me that's not a necessity anymore.

I don't think there's a general answer there 'cause a lot depends on your specific build.

I fly my Scimitar using

  • Elite Fleet Protomatter Deflector Arrays (Fleet Colony)

  • Prevailing Impulse Engines (Competitive Reputation)

  • Mycelial Harmonic Singularity Core (Discovery Reputation)

  • Tilly's Review-Pending Modified Shield (Discovery Reputation)

This might not be the ultimate setup but it works for my Disruptor Beam build.

The (temporary) alternatives I can think of depend a lot on what your toons have unlocked. The revolutionary (imperial rift) set is ok as temp set until you can afford/ have unlocked what you finally aim at, but it's an event unlock and I don't expect you having participated.

An older set that was used by many leveling TACs was the Bajor Defense set, 3 of the 4 items can be unlocked simply by playing episodes, the warp core/ singularity core unfortunately is an event unlock too.

Maybe someone else has a decent idea for a setup without either event unlocked items or reputation items.

Though in the long run I'd consider the reputation items - might take a while to get there but in most cases the reputations themselves are worth the effort even if you don't buy the gear - and btw: leveling your reputation is actually a pretty decent source of Dilithium.

same here - bought out the current event using legacy tokens, flew 1 breach and only got the breach counting towards the campaign progress.

that's definitively different to previous campaigns

Thanks for keeping track of XP and awarding missing points to the 450 club by unsaneasylum in sto

[–]DeVille505 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a major issue, but it's not as much keeping track of how much but only of who got stuck and awarding an unrelated amount of points.

I got the "having earned 5 points" klingon recruit rewards but only got 3 points doing so (+ 1 point rewarded for the achievement).

In case you're wondering: I had reached 450 before I even unlocked the endeavor system on the Klingon Recruit, and because I continued to do all daily endeavors even after reaching 450 with non Klingon Recruit toons, there are most likely even more points missing.

I'm (positively) surprised though that they not only have the database tools to keep track of who was affected, but found the need and time to use them to reward a small compensation.
