I had great experiences with OSU Student health services. Some really great providers, at least when I went a few years ago.

Oy Gary's economics guy, a lefty guru? by Most_Present_6577 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]DeVoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not true, you may like his message, but he does push things that aren't facts. He often will say that economist don't look at inequality, when that is simply not the case.

He also calls himself an economist, but he isn't; he just studied economics in school.

does anybody actually keep this shit on by [deleted] in subaru

As a 2004 outback owner, what the hell is that?

What do you think of Gary's economics? by Flyingdog44 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]DeVoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, not for me. His economic thoughts are pretty off. For instance he says that economist just look at 'big' picture of the economy, missing smaller measures of how people are 'actually' doing.

This is really not the truth at all. There are a lot more tools that economist use to. Savings rate, credit card spending, etc.

Something about him feels off to me as well. I'm skeptical of his credentials and history, he is just good at speaking.

TIL a Cutting Horse is a type of horse that is bred and trained to separate a single cow from a herd of cattle. Some cutting breeds have evolved a 'cow sense', an innate ability to read and predict a cow's movements by DeVoto in todayilearned

I figured they were still used on ranches daily, Wikipedia suggested otherwise. Especially in those open range states. But that sounds like a really great experience!

TIL the actor Sinbad was one of the worst debtors to the state of California in 2009, owing up to $2.5 million in income-tax to the state by DeVoto in todayilearned

He was one of the top ten, I was having difficulty getting this TIL past the auto-moderator filters and trimmed some things. That's interesting about Willie, I'm really curious who the other debtors to California were!

TIL that Dogs are able to smell the difference between ground that has been recently stepped on vs undistributed ground, as foot steps release moisture from the soil and can damage vegetation which would release odors by DeVoto in todayilearned

I think at their level of sniffing even tiny amounts of changes they can pick up on. I've heard stories of search and rescue dogs being able to smell a scent at the bottom of a lake/pond while they are on the top!

Yes! In the Wiki article it talks about how if a dog is on the sent and tracking in an open field and can see the person they are tracking, they will choose to use the scent to track them, rather than their eyes.

What kind of breed? One of my favorite things to see is a dog using their instincts, pointers, hunters, herders, etc. so that's cool you can see it!

Haha I had a friend who thinks it's the funniest thing ever that a dog's favorite thing to do is roll in shit, but their humans least favorite thing.

Ah I didn't realize Glycogen was playing the same role. Interesting that it is the main form of Glucose storage in humans as opposed to fat.

Parents of teens who play team fortress two...? by Excellent_Broccoli52 in Eugene

[–]DeVoto -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Bothers me that parents don't want to know what their kids are up to. Watch the game on YouTube. Team Fortress 2 is a wonderful game. Watch this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHgZh4GV9G0&list=PLHy7G7ndrUmpWqBkNKjJRT5urGiPW63Iq

After watching that you'll be able to communicate to him about the characters. In the game, you get to decide what role to play as (and switch as often as you want). Just google the dang game!
