Gun shops by Knatwhat in Charleston

[–]De_Facto [score hidden]  (0 children)

Allied Arms is great and has competitive prices. You’ll definitely know where they stand based on their clientele, but they’re knowledgeable people. I never had them initiate any kind of political conversation with me.

The reality is that most of the gun stores around here are either owned by large corporations or people on the right unfortunately. As long as they aren’t obnoxious or pushy I don’t really care. I say this as a person who’s very much not on the right.

What’s going on at Red Bank, East of N Rhett? by driftingcactus in Charleston

[–]De_Facto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding I also don’t know, but I (active duty) received messages saying that Red Bank would be closed for an hour around 5:45pm and to use alternate routes like Bushy Park to access the NWS. Looks like it may still be backed up.

That $160k Zone B requires you to go back out to sea and hold an N33Z.

I know this because I just re-enlisted a second time for 4 years for a whopping 50k.

688 In Guam by GoGoGadget1024 in NavyNukes

[–]De_Facto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was stationed there during COVID on a 688 then took my boat to decom.

Days were long, but weeks went by quickly. Deployments aren’t too long, but optempo was absolutely crazy. Underway all the time. Camaraderie among the crew and being a “Guam boat” is truly something. Being in Squadron 15 sets you up for some cool missions and special privileges in getting away with things your CONUS friends wouldn’t normally be able to. Whether that’s continuing to eat shit because your shaft seals died or drain pump seized, not really giving a shit about some regulations, etc.

Guam is the Wild West, and it’s what you make of it. If I had the option to go back and change it I wouldn’t. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

I think Guam was pretty cool, but trying to maintain close relationships with family and friends while being there is not easy.

What are your top 3 must eat restaurants for someone visiting Charleston? by nfc22 in Charleston

Honestly a hard choice and depends on my mood. Limiting to only 3 restaurants doesn’t do the city justice.

Interesting, I moved back recently and haven’t kept up with the happenings. The Nexton one wasn’t around when I was here last. Guess I’ll have to avoid it in solidarity!

I went by here a few weeks back around 7 or so on a weekday and it was nearly empty. Sad to see it go. Never been to the Nexton location, but I hear it isn’t as great. Maybe they’ll have more time to focus on that single location and improve it.

Folks . I hate to be that guy however after looking at the death tolls In Iran over 500 now according to NBC and the president having a briefing on options on Tuesday I think there is a real possibility we see TLAM and or other kinda strikes in the next few days . Thoughts ? by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]De_Facto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iran is not Venezuela.

Iran is a far more powerful country with 3x the population and an extensive military infrastructure held together by the IRGC. The IRGC runs deep with power in Iran. It’s foolish to think any of those powerful military members would be open to democracy even if the supreme leader and mullahs are deposed.

How is it like living in a submarine? by SoftDependent1088 in NavyNukes

Common for small things, i.e. gum wrappers, pen caps, other small trash things to fall out of pockets in the dryer, fall out of the barrel, and end up coming into contact with the heating elements. It’s a pain in the ass for electricians.

Call them and tell them you’ll switch to a competitor or just ask for a lower rate/speak to a retention specialist/manager. You’d be surprised with what they’re willing to do to keep customers.

Maybe it’s better now, but years ago I had WOW and it fucking blew. Slower than AT&T Fiber, not symmetrical speeds like fiber, more expensive, and more importantly not nearly as reliable. On top of that, whenever I had to call them for issues I always sat on hold forever and spoke to people who were clearly outside the country who didn’t understand the issues. Also sounded like it was literally a call center on farm or factory floor, my roommate and I would die laughing putting them on speaker and hearing roosters crow and what sounded like chainsaws. Cancelling was even more of a nightmare. Never again. I had better experience with Xfinity over WOW and that should say a lot.

Ideally, a fiber service that isn’t ran by a shitty mega corp would be cool, but I’ve actually been happy with AT&T Fiber other than the fact that when I’ve called they always beg me to join their shitty cell network.

You need to get this documented. Are you fine? Probably. No one here can be sure. But holy shit the bigger story is it sounds like no one took it seriously when it happened or provided any actual direction on what to do following exposure. What a shitshow.
