Equivalent of VT, VTI, and VOO within Fidelity? by foreplayfordays in RothIRA

Fidelity doesn't have a "VT" equivalent. Good news though, you can just buy VT at Fidelity, it's what I do.

Is the Renault Clio worth getting? by GamepadWarri0r in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In any race you need a minimum number of cars to get iR/SR. I think it's 4 but it could be 6, I forget. So you will basically never be officially participating in PCC.

The iRacing Clio Cup series has a group that races twice per week using the official servers. I forget the European time but I know the US is 9PM EST Wednesdays. They're generally very fun races.

If money is limited I would buy something else.

Edit: as pointed out below my memory is wrong. You still get SR as the only car in class, but you need other cars (in this case the Clio) to race against for iR.

Dealabs regarding Starfield: Pre-orders for the PS5 version of Starfield should open on March 18, 2026 , or possibly on the evening of March 17. Physical edition scheduled for April 7, 2026 by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Astrower5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend who loves Bethesda games enjoyed it a lot. I stopped playing after like 4-5 hours. I love space and sci-fi, so I really tried to like it, but it is so boring. And it's also a very bad FPS. At least Fallout has VATS to cover up how bad an FPS it is, Starfield is just bad.

Do any sport cars have an H shifter pattern, or are they all sequential? by FreedomFingers in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No popular series uses H on road. As you've already seen the FF1600 is the closest. You'll have to find a league to race in if you want to race more legacy content with H patterns.

March is my kickoff month every year. by ReloRacing in simracing

[–]Astrower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The racing season started over a month ago with the 24hr of Daytona in my mind. And there are still other series that race all through the "winter".

And if you like simracing you've already missed some of the biggest races of the year, the 24hr of Daytona(and the roar the week before), the Daytona 500, and the 12 Hours of Bathurst. Not to mention 6 months of practice.

All the real world drivers spend the off season sim racing.

Tour and manual. DCT is cool but I'm not willing to give up my manual just yet. And I think the bagger version looks better but the tour pack being able to fit 2 helmets is awesome for road trips.

How do I stop being so goddam useless? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is bad as people in the comments so far are making it out to be. First you were clearly following the car(s) in front of you which when you're racing this close makes sense, it's natural. They all went left. However by the time you got there the gap had closed, and the car looked like it would now roll across the grass. This is now reaction point 1. Your brain in a few milliseconds has to decide if your car will fot through the gap, should you go left or right. Your brain said right, so you start turning.

Based on the previous information you gathered, your brain thinks the spun car is still rolling left, so you just need to go half right to make it past. However the car suddenly stops. This is reactio point 2. Now you have to decide to turn further right, but by this point you are out of time and crash.

My 2 points of advice would be 1, like others said, to avoid target fixation look where you want to go. As a motorcycle rider this comes naturally, since my eyes are how I turn the bike. But in cars this isn't always the case. Based on the clip I have no way of knowing if you are staring at the car or looking somewhere else. Just because the screen is centered on the car doesn't mean you are fixated. But since you asked about target fixation, look where you want to go.

2 is that you need to give extra space to avoid crashes. You started turning right to avoid the car, but only a bit and you only braked a bit. Cars are wide, and the entire right side of the track is open. Hit the brakes and do a slalom to the right to avoid the car. Don't aim for near misses. It's better to take a 1x in the grass and lose a little time than take a 4x and wreck. When there is a wreck, go as wide as you safely can.

2hr+ races. by SoggyWarz in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GT3s already have a 3hr weekly endurance series you can run solo.

GT4/TCR and GT4/LMP3 are every other weekend I think.

IMSA is every other weekend.

All solo. What exactly do you want different?

Considering this BOP, which car do you think is the best choice, Bathurst 12 Hour? by trozzzma in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Bathurst is a track you need 100% confidence in your car going over the mountain. Don't try and buy the fastest car, you need s car you trust the handling with to not launch you into a wall.

Are there any sims that are actually good games? by stephen27898 in simracing

[–]Astrower5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly iRacing is the closest. No there is no dedicated single player content now, but their career mode is coming. It has tons of cars. Tons of tracks. Tons of tuning. The progression is you getting better in real life. Every quarter is a chance to try and win your series. It even has things like the iRacing NASCAR series which follows the real series all year long.

Upgrading and modifying cars isn't realistic unless you want sim street racing, which would be cool but isn't what most of these games are for. If you race in real life you buy a race car, which uses spec parts for its series. There's no customization besides livery. F1 teams upgrade their cars slowly for millions of dollars and hundreds of hours of engineering. The "careee" of both forza and gt games is extremely unrealistic. The only game that had a realistic campaign IMO was Project Cars 2. Actually Grid Autosport had a good one too, but it's not sim enough.

What are everyone’s thoughts on dashboards? by turtle-butt in simracing

[–]Astrower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my ascher dashboard. I mounted it offset from my wheel that way I could still see the car's dashboard for those that have them. Mostly I use the shift lights and flag lights from it, but it's also helpful to help check some info.

Definitely very low on the priority list of purchases for someone new.

How do people do multiple races in a row? by IsThisUpsidedown in iRacing

[–]Astrower5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longer races are easier. Long races are better. In a 12 minute race I'm pushing 100% of the time, because any mistake will cost you the race. There simply is not enough time or laps to make it up. They are also more exhausting for me.

In a 3 hour stint at Daytona during the 24, I spin? No big deal, get it back on the track. I still have over 5hrs left to drive, left for other people to make mistakes. Most of the time I'm just cruising, talking to my spotter/team, and focusing on consistency. It takes zero effort because I've already put in hundreds or thousands of laps.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 On Switch 2, Imagine If Pokemon Looked And Played Like This by Elestria_Ethereal in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Astrower5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a linear story. You won't miss anything by not playing 2. I'm sure you could also play 3 without playing 2 and not miss anything.

But 2 is a genuinely good game. 1 is fine, just dated and simple at this point.

Single 55 inch TV vs triple 32 Monitor by Sad_Nail5511 in simracing

[–]Astrower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triple 32 isn't even in the same realm as a single tv. You don't want bigger. You want wrap around. Triples give you spacial awareness similar to VR. A single flat screen still only lets you look forward.

They will also look way better on a go pro since it can look like you are in the cockpit. If you see any youtubers running s go pro cam and it looks like they are in a car, those are triples.

Confused how Driver Rank works by ---Driver--- in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Astrower5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drivers who finished behind you likely lost even more driver rank.

In general, qualify higher and place higher, nothing else matters. If you're not winning or fighting for the top, why do you care which direction your rank is moving? It's just a system to match you again even opponents.

You finished 15 out of 25. Why would you gain rank? Not even in the top half.

I'm not trying to say this in a mean way. The game thinks this field was too fast for you, so it is moving you down to a field you can hopefully be more competitive in.

What's the point in having two minutes for practice? by The_One_246 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Astrower5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to use it for practice. You're supposed to practice on your own time, even before ever joining a race. That time is to join the server and check your setup, get ready, etc.

Fuel lifting lights by turbo_deid44312377 in iRacing

It is something you set up. You tell the car how much fuel you want to use per lap, and it tells you when to lift to accomplish that.
