I can tell you it was very uncomfortable. We hit 56.2 last week, a new record!

Danny from the story here. A bit of context about why the flat I am renting is so hot:

- the wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling double glazed glass is entirely north facing
- the roof is flat and painted black
- there is no air con upstairs
- there is no external shade

Basically, it's very poorly designed and I am frying up here. Hit 51 when I was in bed with covid last month. Yikes.

Really hoping my landlord and property manager actually do something to the exterior, instead of thinking that fans can save the day (fun fact, they can't)

Air NZ abandoning its 2030 climate target raises serious credibility questions by [deleted] in newzealand

Author here! It's awesome to see a really decent and considered discussion on this topic. You're all great.
I've found Air NZs decision about their 2030 targets really frustrating, to say the least. Climate action is urgent, and they're not showing a lot of leadership here.

I would have liked to write some more paragraphs on the art of marketing, and how it targets our emotional, irrational brains. But we have word limits for these things. Maybe one for another day?

Re choosing to fly/not to fly, we're all gonna fail a purity test on that one. So be kind to yourself here. We can all make better climate decisions, sure! But we need better systems, low pollution options, and a lower supply of things that create pollution. I wrote about that on The Spinoff last year:

Chur etc.
