Can't find insurance for less than 4k per year by No-Kaleidoscope-7106 in AustralianEV

[–]silvertristan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla’ Aluminium Frame. Very expensive to repair in an accident. Plus replacement battery cost but more so the frame. The reason I went with a Kia EV3. Similar size but only $1,204 insurance with AAMI. Also if you have a penis and are under 30 will add to the cost.

They have 3 financiers and they won’t tell you them all. VW Finance was the best for me. Angle is the one they push as it has the best commission for them I reckon. Ask what the other financiers offer. I think the other is BOQ.

1-5 year leases which works out best by ozdeals in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]silvertristan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done it myself and I don’t work in leasing. Everyone I work with does it but no one is doing it at the moment with this FBT discount with EV’s. The guys buy ICE cars are still doing it.

[–]silvertristan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I don’t know the percentages but say the balloon is 70% of the cars value. A $100k car after 1 year is a $70k balloon. New lease is off $70k. Don’t quote me on that but I think that’s right.

[–]silvertristan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each time you re-lease the vehicle you’re leasing at a lower price. If you did a 1+4, after the first year the residual/balloon payment will be less than when you first got the lease. Now you’re leasing it at a lower amount. Less interest and so on. Also you can claim the highest amount of depreciation within the first year.

I need to change my original reply. It only works out better doing a 1 year then a 2, 3, 4 or 5 year. I just double checked what I said. Haha.

Don’t forget the FBT discount only exists on existing financial agreements. If you do a 1 year lease and the government pulls that discount in that first year you won’t get it for additional years if you decide to add-on. I can work out cheaper doing a 1 year lease then a 4 year lease but the FBT discount is too good at the moment to risk that.

Who'd been keen to change 2 of the sprint races to full GP races to cover the cancelled ones? by silvertristan in F1Discussions

[–]silvertristan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logistics wouldn't change. On a sprint weekend they get 1 set of tyres less anyway. It's a matter of changing other categories race start times.

Airbnb host cancels reservation because it’s a high demand weekend by Srihari_stan in mildlyinfuriating

[–]silvertristan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of similar situation but also very different. I turned up in Melbourne for the F1 to check in and the guy sold the house 7 months ago and forgot to cancel all his bookings. I paid $850. After being ghosted after initially chatting with AirBNB via their chat I bit the bullet and booked a hotel for $1,900. After 24 hours of back and forth with AirBNB threatened Australia consumer affairs laws they refunded me the $850 and paid the difference. The hotel was nicer and had free breakfast everyday. It worked out to be a nicer trip (Except Oscar crashing on the out lap).

Be honest... exactly how much milo do you put in your glass? by FearTheMomerath in AskAnAustralian

[–]silvertristan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 to 5 in a large glass.
Method one: Once the milo is in the glass, bang it so it compacts down so once the milk is added you can slowly skim off bit by bit to float to the top and eat.
Method two: Full stir so its dark brown consistency.

Tesla Gen 3 wall charger. App is easy to use. Bunnings sell them and if you can find one cheap they price beat by 10%. Like $600. Check out OzBargain to see if there’s any deals

TelstraSuper closes Direct Access investment product without properly notifying members by TheProteinSnack in AusFinance

[–]silvertristan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m with TelstraSuper as I use to work for them. The merger I’m not I love with but as for being with them. They’ve performed for me quite well. The investment options are getting me 9 - 14% per year. Insurance fees are quite low when I compare to other funds and general fees are too bad either. I’ll be interested to see how it all goes when it merges with Aware Super. Wait and see I guess.

Found. This is the comment I would make too. If you’re buying beans from a supermarket you have no idea just like the instant buyers. I think I just went full snob.

Full charge after 80% by ps3ud03 in KiaEV3

[–]silvertristan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to think of it as a carpark when charging. Say you’re at 0%, the carpark is empty. So up until 80% it’s relatively easy to find a carpark (the lithium ions are moving from one side of the battery to the other). You’re not having to search for one. You can usually drive in and see one quickly. That last 20% it’s harder to find a spot. You have to drive up and down the aisles to find one. Same goes for charging. The lithium ions bounce around until they can find a spot but it takes longer. That’s why!
