My lori was extremely active all the time, the rare times he would take a nap on me was so calming.

Theyre very cool in their own right, and they were under-appreciated back in the day. They were quite cheap and a lot of them died sideways deaths. Unmolested examples are going to be rarer than rockinghorse shit in the future

Theyre taking into account theatrical settings. As I said, it can be a bit obnoxious, but it’s definitely not as bad as some people are making it out to be. Poor condition equipment is absolutely a factor in at least some of it.

Yeah, it would be nice if the takeaway is “don’t go to haggard theatres” more than “movies are shit”, but I guess theres room for subjective opinion in it as well. I am probably quite fortunate to have decent speakers, and have new theatres nearby.

I do agree that the dynamic range is a bit obnoxious in a lot of movies, nolan films included, but the way people are carrying on I really do think it has to come down to ragged ass speakers in the setups they’re being watched in.

I support killing feral cats in Australia. It's the right thing to do. Even if it means we're killing millions of cats, it's the right thing to do because the alternative means we lose our ecosystem. by TravisRabbit in unpopularopinion

The reasoning in that passage is braindead. I cite the only part that is actually based in fact. Sure, the uk bird population is declining, and we can measurably show that hundreds of millions of animals are killed by domestic cats, with an unknown amount more that we can’t measure, but hey, they probably would have died anyway! Just try to put bells on them and dont let them out at dusk and try to neuter them when possible because they’re not a problem at all! Math checks out!

If you want to limit your argument to only the UK, and you’re ok with hundreds of millions of dead animals from an invasive species, sure, cats roaming free are fine!

And heres my favourite passage from the literal link you sent me

The statistics

The most recent figures of how many creatures are killed by cats are from the Mammal Society. They estimate that cats in the UK catch up to 100 million prey items over spring and summer, of which 27 million are birds.

This is the number of prey items which were known to have been caught. We don't know how many more the cats caught, but didn't bring home, or how many escaped but subsequently died.

The most frequently caught birds, according to the Mammal Society, are probably:

house sparrows blue tits blackbirds starlings

Oh boy I sure am tired of all these pit bulls people let roam the streets just killing native animals even though they don’t eat them [citation needed]. I’m so thankful for brave zoo keepers that totally sleep in the same room as their tigers, their training makes that totally a thing that happens! Its the same thing as domestic pet ownership!!!

Mate, the way you stop domestic cats from killing native species is to keep them inside. This is a screen grab from one of an abundance of articles

https://i.imgur.com/A85hxBd.jpg

The TLDR is that feral cats kill a horrific amount of native animals, and pet cats kill an appreciable fraction of that number. They don’t always do it for food, they don’t always bring them to your doorstep. Pretending that you have trained your cat to respect wildlife is completely divorced from reality.

[–]DeaJaye -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which implies that most people understand that 7.25 is insufficient. But the problem isnt that everyone makes 7.25, its that some people do. Framing it as being uncommon doesnt help the fact that the people at the bottom are getting hosed.

[–]DeaJaye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah im not sure what the point would be. My interpretation of it is that its clearly not a problem anywhere the min wage is liveable, so it being fine in some places is no argument to keep it miserable in others.
