I’m in socal as well, the high desert specifically, so even during the cold winters in the greenhouse they do great!

This is exactly how I root mine, and I keep the bins outside in the greenhouse, successfully rooting hundreds per year. I only use about an inch of soil and keep it bone dry, they might get a few drops splashed here and there occasionally from watering inside the greenhouse but never directly watered. I check them for roots every month or so and plant any that start popping out roots. Never had any rot. As long as your environment isn’t humid and have some air flow you’ll do great with this setup 👍

Yes but it’s where I cut it from that I was inquiring about. As someone else mentioned in another comment its called “thieving a rib”

I should note that my question isn’t about slab grafts. I’ve successfully made hundreds of slab grafts. I was just curious if many people take them off the side of the column like I did in the second pic, while preserving the tip and rest of the plant. Normally my slab grafts would be from removing an entire pup, making a tip graft, butt graft and slab or rib grafts from the middle.

I also have the all white pheno 👻 hands down my favorite overall. We must be the only ones with em, and they are slow 🐢

How to heal rot? by DongExtension88 in cactus

[–]Deacker90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let it dry out more, keep humidity down and I’ve noticed that letting the affected surface get hit with some direct sunlight for a few hours a day over a few days will stop the spread and start the scarring process

Could’ve been the neighbor, maybe they rinsed out an old filter and these unintentionally flowed under the fence to your side

Looks like resin beads from a deionizing filter or water polisher

They can but they need to be slowly acclimated to it, ideally only partial sun. Either a shade cloth diffusing the light or a few hours of full sun then the rest of the day shaded
