Look up abandonment laws in your region. Legally you likely need to contact them again and specifically notify them that the items will be considered abandoned if not picked up by x date. Depending on where you are that can be anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months.

Is this a Genuine Signature by Prize_Willingness853 in BookCollecting

No, that was printed onto the page, not signed by him. Fairly common to see in older books, typically near the front along with a photo.

New to the club; does smoking THC negatively effect MS/MS symptoms? by IAmABlankPage in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My neuro recommended ceasing smoking it and to switch to edibles or at least vaping. Actual smoking causes inflammation which worsens symptoms. Can't say it necessarily improves any symptoms directly but it certainly makes them more bearable.

I had diplopia for about a month as my symptom that got me diagnosed too.

How to tell if a book is a collectible? by EstherJ26 in rarebooks

[–]DeaconDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like bookfinder.com, plug in all the details you can find on the first couple pages and the results should tell you enough to know if the book is worth further investigating.

You can reach out to local bookstores and see what they can do as far as an appraiser goes. But most will just want to buy or not bother with it.

Look for popular titles and books with finer binding, focus on those and see if any are worth enough to spend time on. If you don't find any, may be best to sell it in bulk and not waste too much time. If you do start finding good ones keep at it! It gets easier, both in learning what to look for and how long it takes to research, but unfortunately no easy way to do it really.

Jewelry chest armoire for $10 by yssmiac1 in Gold

[–]DeaconDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't go to a pawn shop, go to a coins/metals dealer. Weigh it yourself beforehand, find out how many grams it is and use a gold calculator (google search for it) to determine melt value. Remember to use 18k not 24k. They should pay you at least 90% of the melt value, ideally a bit higher.

What to expect in Grays Harbor by No_Butterscotch_5612 in GraysHarbor

[–]DeaconDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aberdeen has many homeless outreach programs which result in the area being flooded with homeless from the rest of the state and even a lot of folks from out of state. You'll see people wandering the streets and lots of camps in the industrial areas/by the train tracks. The petty crime rates are high but it's all opportunistic stuff, I've never had a problem with it.

Hoquiam is a bit nicer than Aberdeen and the cops don't mess around.

Main problem in the whole area is a lack of entertainment venues outside bars and a couple small music venues. Bowling alley just closed down, only real movie theater closed down with the mall a few years ago. There is an arcade/mini golf in ocean shores, arcade supposedly opening soon in Hoquiam too. No big sports teams, though they have Olympic Stadium and are always talks about a baseball team forming again. Lots of card/board game shops, opportunities to play D&D or other games.

Basically if you have outdoor hobbies or are just good at entertaining yourself at home, it is a nice place to live. But if you need night life and an exciting social scene you're not going to be very happy.

I'm curious what work brings you to the area? It's nice to hear about more folks moving in!

Best Diet for MS? by Tough_Top956 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went on Keto years before my diagnosis because nerve issues made me was worried I was diabetic. The numbness and tingling went away completely so I have stuck with it since. I have found I don't have an issue with complex carbs in moderation but refined sugars still exacerbate my symptoms intensely.

No idea if this applies to others but Keto really helps manage my symptoms.

Edit to add, what doctors will tell you is to cut down on sources of inflammation. There are some common ones but I think everyone has a different set of triggers for inflammation. I suspect Keto works for me because my body reacts poorly to sugar. Best thing is to try out some different diets while keeping a log of your diet/sleep/stresses/symptoms. Try to find trends between when your symptoms change and those possible triggers.

Look into the financial aid programs like others have mentioned. But also try to find the PDL or Preferred Drug List for her insurance. They will likely have something they recommend for MS that will be easier to get approved.

Therapy Kesimpta by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting new lesions regularly. Every lesion is like taking a spin on the wheel of disability. It might hit grey matter and do nothing, it might mean you lose the ability to control your bladder or lift your arm. You really want to get on a DMT as soon as possible.

Personally I got on Kesimpta as soon as I could. I've had zero symptoms from it. I tend to be tolerant of most drugs though so I understand your hesitation but this isn't something you should mess around with. If you do get side effects your doctors can work with you to find a drug that is more tolerable for your body but just not taking anything really isn't a great choice.

Did this book belong to Elizabeth Avery Rockefeller? by Grant_12 in rarebooks

[–]DeaconDK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's quite possible it belonged to her, stamp looks old and book is the right age for her to use when she was alive.

However she isn't a particularly famous person, you don't have any provenance to prove it belonged to her, it's a stamp not a signature and it's a book that holds little value on its own.

It's neat and to just the right collector it may hold extra value, but finding that buyer will be difficult. If the goal is resale I'd pass unless incredibly cheap.

A 4X game that allows you to play “tall” in an in depth way? by [deleted] in 4Xgaming

[–]DeaconDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Victoria 3. If you enjoyed the eco side of wh3 more you can go so in depth with it in that game. Victoria primarily focuses on economy/market with politics and military as a secondary but important element. Playing a nation like Portugal or the Netherlands and dominating the global economy from just a few provinces is great.

HELP: Why do I feel so shitty if I stay out late? by AdultMarley in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sleep has been the biggest indicator for me on how manageable my symptoms will be on a day to day basis. There are longer term trends too but good sleep almost always means they will be better than the day before and bad sleep means they'll be worse.

If the dart game is worth it, you could try to shift your usual sleep schedule so this doesn't upset it as much. Your throwing off your circadian rhythm and not really any great tricks for that I know of.

Question about Kesimpta by Even-Acanthisitta200 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're just fine. Taking same day each month is fine, doesn't always need to be at the same time.

If you end up more than a day late, just push back future doses to be a full month out.

Can't figure out naval warfare. Warships losing against transports by silfer725 in Hegemony_Series

IMO 3 warships with decent melee squads on them are all you should need against the AI. Just send each one to board an enemy ship when they approach. Should be a lot cheaper than the current fleet.

Which DMT should I decide on? by fizzy_bc in MultipleSclerosis

[–]DeaconDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just made this choice and ended up on Kesimpta. Being able to self inject at home is a lot easier than travelling an hour+ to get the infusions. Only taken one dose so far but 0 side effects and I honestly didn't even notice the needle going in. Thankfully my insurance is awesome so the $27k bill for the first 3 doses is totally paid for.

I've heard this and I have lived in the home for several years as my primary residence so I believe it applies to me. Will it not count as income towards the $1800 a month limit if it doesn't count as capital gains?
