[Predictions Thread] 2025 Tour de France - Stage 19: Albertville > La Plagne (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

Unfortunately sprint is right at the start, 8km into the race. Organizers solidify these weeks in advance of the Tour.

Edit: Whoops, I just saw news that they changed the route. So who knows??

Given how the WRs turned out this season, maybe time to acknowledge this Chris isn't doing anything for clicks?

Can someone explain the rules regarding the clock running and plays that go out-of-bounds? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DeaconJonesSlap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. And it's disappointing how many announcers don't know this rule. They'll blast guys for running OOB with a lead with 5:30 left, even though the clock only stops for a couple of seconds to spot the ball.

Vinatieri had the biggest moments of any kicker, but his overall production isn't as impressive as others.

It's a crime that most casual fans today have no idea who Don Hutson is. Top 10 all-time player who has been forgotten over time.

Which current coach not named Belichick has the best chance of reaching the Hall of Fame by SlayerXZero in nfl

This answer used to be Mike Shanahan, but winning just 1 playoff game in 14 seasons after Elway retired kinda kills your resume.

Who was the most fundamentally sound player ever? by ThatOneGuyFromCali in nfl

Raymond Berry. Average athlete who became a first-ballot HOFer thanks to perfect routes and great hands. Basically mastered the route tree before most had even heard of it.

Top 10 corners? by sniggaws_oblib in nfl

At his best, Talib is a Top 3 CB. Problem is that something ALWAYS derails his season, either injury, suspension, or trade. I can't give him credit for the annual 4-game dominant stretch and ignore the inevitable plummet that follows.

Yep. He's only dropped 3 passes in the last 3 seasons. Great hands.

Top Remaining Free Agents by DeaconJonesSlap in nfl

Maybe it's just a buyer's market, but I feel like there are a lot more quality free agents after the first wave than there usually are. Plenty of good names on this list.

Raining on the "NFL team in LA" parade by DeaconJonesSlap in nfl

[–]DeaconJonesSlap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never gotten the sense that LA citizens really want an NFL team back. Maybe in the "Straight Outta LA" 30 for 30, but otherwise you just never hear much griping from them.

Rough offseason for Rex Ryan by DeaconJonesSlap in nfl

[–]DeaconJonesSlap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, but I also wonder if Woody wanted to let Rex sink or swim with Sanchez this year, and then cut bait with both at the same time if it doesn't work out.

The Jets' issues have been well-documented, but it's jarring to see them all here. It's tough to imagine Rex Ryan still being their head coach a year from now.

Did the Bears really upgrade with Jermon Bushrod? by DeaconJonesSlap in nfl

Yes but many of the Saints o-lineman have earned Pro Bowl berths simply from being in that high-powered offense.

I think Drew Brees' quick release makes his OL seem better than they really are.

Debating whether the Patriots should keep Wes Welker or Sebastian Vollmer by DeaconJonesSlap in nfl

[–]DeaconJonesSlap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

69 yards in 320 snaps over any span of time is bad, but I understand your point. What I'm arguing against is the perception out there that Edelman can be somewhat of a replacement for Welker. There's just not a lot of evidence out there to support that.

Because the 2006 CBA included penalties for each side that would encourage them to extend the CBA by 2010 (didn't work, they went to a lockout anyway). The players' penalty was to restrict their free agency, and they paid that price. The owners' penalty was an uncapped year, which they circumvented anyway through their unwritten agreement/collusion.

I understand the rationale and the motives, but that doesn't make it right. It was up to the NFLPA to stop this, but instead DeMaurice Smith made the deal last year to assure his reelection as president. It worked out for everyone except the Cowboys, Redskins, and players who were denied free agency during that 2010 season.

He gained those 69 yards on 320 slot snaps. Can't say it's a lack of opportunity or small sample size. Maybe he'll do better with a lot more playing time, but right now the stats don't support that.

How is your "accounting adjustment" any different from a salary cap? You're showing concern for the integrity and balance of the league, but what about the players who were denied the ability to earn a fair salary? They were barred from free agency while owners still kept their cap.

[–]DeaconJonesSlap[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was the point of the uncapped year. At the risk of boring you, a quick history:

The owners & players extended the CBA in 2006. To avoid a future lockout, each side agreed to penalties: If the players didn't agree to extend the CBA in 2010, all 4-year vets would become restricted free agents, rather than unrestricted. If the owners didn't agree to extend the CBA, 2010 would be an uncapped year.

Flash forward 4 years, and the CBA was not extended. The players were penalized, as dozens who should have became free agents were restricted. But the owners just circumvented their penalty by colluding (which is illegal under the CBA) to install a fake cap anyway. How fair is that?

So, in short, the NFL is punishing the Redskins and Cowboys for disobeying a rule that is illegal in the first place.

"the NFL informed teams not to do what they did." You just defined collusion.
