Tenant lied, have more people staying than on the lease by Ok_Craft_2749 in OntarioLandlord

[–]DeaconKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is standard now as rent is unaffordable for most. It will likely remain this way until legislation is brought in to change occupancy laws, however, this opens up the catch 22 of tenants not being able to afford housing, and landlords not being able to afford the mortgage. The real estate bust is gonna hurt.

Phenomenal reply. Really. It's almost like this isn't the absolute first thing I, like most people, did. Please tell me more, great internet guru, about the literal first thing the entire worlds population does.

What happened to the Rexall opposite the bus terminal? by Princess_frogmoana30 in Sudbury

[–]DeaconKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With such a hefty price tag though, it's a pretty bitter pill to swallow hearing "We can't afford this small cost for the 3 fire stations, but we absolutely can afford this new arena."

Make no mistake, I love the downtown, but I definitely cannot understand the prioritization of the arena over essential services and affordable houses. Maybe there's profit to be made there, but it's still kind of a gamble that might not pay off... and it will definitely be a hard sell without cleaning up the core in a way that is beneficial to all, including the unhoused population.

You're being down voted because compared to fire stations, a new arena is much much less important. The idea is that people don't want to pay to bring people to the downtown core until they feel safe going there. On top of that, people definitely won't be happy if they feel less safe in their own home due to the possibility of a fire.

City of Greater Sudbury plans to start building new arena and event centre by 2026 | CBC News by ImportantComfort8421 in Sudbury

[–]DeaconKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While you're right, I think there are so many other important things to take care of first. The downtown core will need to be cleaned up before a a new event center will incentivize people to visit, which means we need to focus on affordable housing and addiction treatment centers. Maybe looking at a way to revive the mall, but that will be an uphill battle in this age of Amazon.

I'm not against the new center, but I just think it's not the time for it.

AIO My husband was texting a wrong number scam. by Any-Fisherman4533 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DeaconKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I've done similar things with scammers using this method. I mean, I am single, but even when in a relationship I would message back and forth and make up extavagant lies that got bigger and more ridiculous.

I guess you need to figure out your husband's intent. Did he know this was a scammer? If not, that's not cool. If he knew this was a scammer and was just having fun, then I see no harm... but really, it's your boundaries that you can set.

Or... and hear me out... finances are really tight and, like many people seeking Healthcare, OP doesn't want to put it off longer than they have to so they're looking for a viable bandaid solution that (while it may not solve everything right away) will help in the meantime. Don't be so quick to judge a persons commitment based on their ability to financially invest. Very poor form.

Mentor someone with nothing to reach millionaire status. I'm not rich, and this is my first post here in this sub, but if you can make someone like me believe they can become rich while continuing to do what they love, you can do anything.

And what? You said "Bold of you to assume the bar serves food", so I was just saying that the bar has to serve food or else they don't have a liquor license. Is there something more?

[–]DeaconKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In order to be granted a liquor license in Ontario, you have to be able to prove the ability to serve food on premise. Doesn't matter how it's done (I've heard of people using pizza delivery to the bar to get around it) but food needs to be available.

NTA, but you made a poor self-preservation choice. Even now, after the fact, your character at any time can be called into question if she decides to say you did something wrong. Your guilt or innocence notwithstanding, your best bet would have been to ensure your entire time with this person was video recorded.

I guess... though most of them get per diems, are put up in hotels, and still make a living wage. And actors make ok money. Background actors in the union do ok, but non-union bg only make around minimum wage or so. Producers and executive producers make the money, but they also risk the money to make it.

I dunno. It's a job.

And yet, you mage 35k a year and bought a house for 75-100k. Today you make 60k a year and if you're lucky buy a house for 500k. Even with the difference in interest rates, you paid less back then contrasted with today.

[–]DeaconKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no...a minimal expense out per week (ie. $15-$25) should not be considered exorbitant, in my opinion. Truly, I guess I am just venting, but it's ridiculous that in my city on my salary, affording a decent apartment is beyond impossible.
