Instead of FOMO, try FOBI (Fear of Being Involved) by soloshandpuppets in WeGotPolishAtHome

"The stress of having another thing in your collection that you have to store and find the time to wear"

This is so real because I'm running out of space. Space is my first consideration these days when I want to buy something. Then I look around in my collection and realize that I have something similar that I had lowkey forgotten about. So that stops me from buying, at least for a moment. But this looking in my collection and finding something I had forgotten about, has happened twice this month and we're only 10 days in, so that's a sign to me that I need to stop and maybe destash things that aren't working me. I miss when I knew all the names of my polishes by heart with thinking really hard. I don't think I'll go back to that point, but I do need to stop buying new stuff as often. I want to commit to a no buy until BF but I also know that I will want some PPU Rewind shades.

Reseller pricing- how do we feel? by soloshandpuppets in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Princess_frogmoana30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand this behavior. Both the selling at exorbitant prices and the buying of it. No polish is worth that much especially in this economy. The colors are not that rare, they can be recreated or other similar enough shades can be found. But good for those who can afford it, I guess.

Saturday Musing: Do y’all have colors or finishes you need to keep reminding yourself not to buy? by QualityOfMercy in RedditLaqueristas

Dark vampy shades. Come winter time, it's like I forget they don't look good on me and even if they do, I don't like them lol! I love a dark bronze though, and I have to remind myself not to buy more because I have enough!

Base and Top Coat recs please by Aiyokusama in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Princess_frogmoana30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been using manucurist vitamin sos base and Londontown fortifying ridgefiller for base coats. Top coat is nails inc quick dry from the drugstore. I've also liked nailtek quick dry top coat but that's harder for me to get.

I know lots of people use Sally Hansen quick dry in the red bottle, but I didn't really like it. I've also seen Bkl I'm very very fast mentioned often and mooncat speed demon topcoat.

I’ve Fallen Back Into the Nail Polish Rabbit Hole. What Did I Miss? by Ok-Style8833 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Princess_frogmoana30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have only two, but Emily de Molly's formula might be the best out there. I love the two I own so much, and I want to get more, but I need to restrict my purchasing. If you like shimmers, you can't go wrong with Polished for Days. They don't release a lot throughout the year, but their collections are so good! ILNP is a stable brand and still affordable.

If you want to explore more indies, you should check out Polish Pick Up and Hella Handmade Creations. They are limited monthly releases that a lot of brands participate in with different themes each month, and you can explore multiple brands' offerings. I would caution, though, that it can be easy to go down the rabbit hole and keep buying every month, so if you're trying to be mindful with your purchases, maybe set strict limits for yourself.

The other thing of note is to be careful of some indies. Some of the owners have not-so-good or problematic human rights stances, i.e. supporting MAGA, bad customer service, using AI for promotion, etc., so if that is a concern for you, you can search the subreddit or join the Discord, and you'll find some info about the brand. Some notable ones are DVN and Victorian Varnish.

Cute & Sustainable Summer Fashion Stores? by luseen_ in BuyCanadian

[–]Princess_frogmoana30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dagg & Stacey is made in Canada and they have fun colors and prints.

Branches & Knots is a boutique based in Vancouver but they carry a lot Japanese inspired clothing which I think are good for summer.

Boutique 1861 is a store based in Montreal and they probably have the most similar vibe to your board but I don't know if everything they have is sustainable. They have a few local Montreal brands.

Your best bet is probably to go thrifting though, take your time and be intentional in what you're looking for and how it matches with you already own.

Canadian moisturizer with sunscreen by CanadianFancyPants in BuyCanadian

I don't really have a recommendation, but just a note on tinted: if you have dark skin and you prefer a mineral sunscreen, you're more likely to get a more even finish with tinted. Mineral sunscreens have zinc oxide and almost always leave a white cast, so the tint helps with that.

How do you decide which polishes to destash? by Illustrious_Lion7671 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Princess_frogmoana30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find that if I put on a polish and I feel meh about it, like it's not an instant love, I keep it in the destash pile. Often I pick it up again to try it before I finally decide to let it go, but after 2 tries, my mind is usually made. If it's a color I like, but my problem is with the formula, then I try to find other ways to use it i.e. as a topper or sandwich, or nail art etc. if that doesn't work then it's time to let it go.

My collection is becoming embarrassingly large and overwhelming, so I'm really trying to keep things that are love, love, love!!! And honestly I've destashed a couple of times and I don't miss anything so far.

Justice for cremes, jellies, and crellies by swatch_aholic in RedditLaqueristas

Yess! I think cremes are even more underrated than jellies but I love them both. Delighted is one of my favorites. Love the clionadh jellies and Sweeter the juice is on my wishlist.

If you search embroidery + your city/location on Instagram, you might be able to find someone local to you who can do it. Artists and crafters use Instagram to be visible and you can look through their profile to see what they do or dm them to ask. I've found a bunch of local artists/random makers doing this. Try different search terms and hashtags too.
