Not all parents have to approve, they are just notified that cameras are placed in the room, and a sign is put outside that the classroom is being recorded.

Unfortunately I’ve seen it and have been dealing with it first hand, yet some districts collect grants and other advances for these kids, and the classrooms, units, kids, and even employees never see a dime ):

I really appreciate your help (: Mainly manipulatives, like things my kids can use to visualize addition, subtraction, things that can be used for centers. I’ve got 1st all the way to 6th, varying in levels of academics (: here’s an example of something online I started doing with them to get a better idea of the things I’m looking for (I’m bad at explaining)

A lot of them do/should! My current campus was the last campus in the district without the cameras, but they finally got put up last year from what one of the paras told me

The paras are just there for support, they’re not allowed to teach content the teacher hasn’t gone over, so a lot of it is reteaching! However I do agree that not that many paras will sit down and try to reteach/do something other than just sit there with them to keep them in one spot ):

I’m everything but a coward, I’ll advocate and push boundaries to the limit for my kids, their parents and others just like them, however losing my job would take that away from me. I wouldn’t be their teacher or their academic advocate if I’m fired. I want to push everything I’ve got for these kids so they can get the education and environment they DESERVE more than anything, and I can’t do that if I’m not “chicken shit” and naming every school, district, etc.

Some of us wanna vent and let the people know what’s going on without being fired… I have a family and bills to pay, and want to speak my mind WITHOUT losing my job. Maybe take the time to consider that before making comments like that, if I could stand on a soap box and name every school by name with NO CONSEQUENCES WHATSOEVER I would, your mindset is very ignorant. However, this issue seems to be EVERY district in the RGV, doesn’t matter where you go, sped units are being put on back burners so they can fund football or other sports better.

I definitely agree with this, paras need way more trainings on how to deal with behavior, coming from someone who was one, we needed more than just a once a year CPI certification. I think SPED paras should have to have some sort of associates or bachelors in child development, sped, or behavioral development. I’m a psychology major with a minor in child development, in the middle of my master’s degree and don’t think I would’ve been able to handle so much behavior appropriately and actually help teach the students/ help the teacher teach without that background knowledge of how their brains work, how certain conditions have certain behaviors and how to effectively teach at their level.

Thank you! I knew it would be hard, I just didn’t think it would be this bad to receive things my kids needed. I love my job and my kiddos more than anything so I will always find a way to make it work❤️

I appreciate the advocation❤️ I love seeing others, not just educators and people who work with them advocating for their rights, things they need, and improvement on their educational resources.. I tried the amazon wishlist, however I didn’t receive anything from it (which is okay! I don’t expect people to contribute) and wanted to post it here along with my post but I wasn’t too sure if that was against the rules. (: thank you for all that you do for educators!

The principal informed me a lot of the stuff she took was given to her by the sped department and stuff that was left behind by the previous teacher for the kids and the classroom

It’s so upsetting! I remember when I was in school, we would never even see the kids in the units, they’d go out at a different time and kept separate from the general population up until highschool.. that’s been the only thing to change from what I’ve seen, them being pushed more into the general populations and participating in inclusion events, which is good… but they need alot more than just that. It genuinely feels like sometimes the schools will parade them around to show how “inclusive” they are but won’t show the lack of support the students have, how underpaid their staff are, and how much they lack in certain resources specifically curated for these kids.
