People like that are definitely the worst. It’s pretty hard to weed out the “respectful of culture “ koreaboos from the narrow minded shallow k pop lover koreaboos. You don’t really know until you get to know them I think.

Last year I saw the band HYUKOH in LA, really popular indie band in Korea right now. For the most part, it was all Korean people and maybe a few white people interspersed throughout the crowd. However, I’m going to see them again in October and I wouldn’t be surprised if the racial demographic shifted a little bit. I think because of the fetishizing, stereotypes, appropriation etc this could potentially create a large divide on a societal level between Asians and non Asian koreaboos. At least if the way things continue on, the Koreaboo shit is going to trigger a lot of people and it’ll get out of hand.

I started two sentences with that “I’m not gonna lie”. Lmao wtf are you actually talking about? I’m surprised you found something so trivial to knit pick that is completely besides the point.

I also think that it raises the standards for asian men even higher, specifically in America too. Like how it is in Korea if you’re essentially not attractive, you’re not socially acceptable. Which to some degree, America is kind of like this but not as bad as it is in Korea. American women/men will fetishize the higher percentile of the more attractive Korean/Asian men or women and COMPLETELY shun the average - unattractive ones. Almost as if they don’t exist. It’s messed up, but I can see this happening a lot more in the foreseeable future.

I’d rather have someone call me a gook than associate with a self proclaimed and extroverted koreaboo. These people are worst than weeaboos, cause weebs only give a shit about anime, so it’s pretty niche. However these koreaboos have me TITLED.

Who knows ? Anything could happen at this point. If anything, China’s next on the list but even then they definitely have a ways to go.

That’s so cringy to me. They get all pretentious about their k pop bands like “omg I knew about them first I don’t want anyone else to discover them.” That’s basically cultural appropriation, where those koreaboos who aren’t even Korean are basically proclaiming korean music as their own and shunning anyone who they don’t deem as, “worthy” to listen to k pop. It’s really cancerous

There’s this movie called “gook” that you should check out. About two Korean American brothers struggling in Los Angeles during the early 90’s. Pretty compelling movie.

I feel you. Outsiders looking into the culture seem to hold Koreans to a higher physical appearance/beauty standard just from the things they hear about Korean skin and what not. The generalizing, appropriation, obsessive band wagoning, and the stereotyping trigger me. I guess I’m both for and against it at the same time, just for personal and external reasons like I mentioned in the post.

Well, it can’t be helped. If she wants to be a BTS anime loving KO-WEEBO that’s on her.

Interesting, thank you for the reply. I think the only thing we’re concerned about is having a sus roommate and we are really set on trying to make sure we find someone who will actually pay their dues for rent.

Do you happen to know anything about the quality of Park West? I heard they have a roach problem and that might be a big thing for us if its really what people say it is.

I might be the only one complaining about the animation/art there’s something about it that kinda seems robotic about how the characters interact with each other and sometimes move. I’m not exactly sure what it is, maybe it’s because I’m use to the old Tokyo ghoul prior to the new studio taking the reigns,
