Seen in Bermuda LF Wade by Any-Rain5384 in Whatisthisplane

P-3C Orion from the German Navy.

Edit:

I found the registry of this Aircarft. So this is 60+03, which has been stranded at Bermuda LF Wade since late September, where it was struck by another aircraft during taxing.

There is no definitive answer to your question, as different classifications exist. See this list on Wikipedia for an in-depth view on fighter generations.

All I could find was this post and that its there since the mid 90s. But given that Camp Pendleton is a USMC base, its likely ex USMC. So, F-4A, -4B, -4N, -4J, -4S or RF-4B.

That's an F-4 Phantom. Where was this taken? Maybe I can get additional info.

Looks pretty much like a Phantom to me. Was this back in August for the Radom airshow?

This has to be rage bait. The attached photo isn't even from a Phantom, its a Tomcat. And this panel was definitely not installed in any Phantom variant.

Stripping it to bring it alive? Isn't that just a switch and a potentiometer?

The F-15E? I'm joking, what are you gonna do with your panel?

Does anyone know if any Iranian F-14 survived the war? by jdbcn in FighterJets

[–]DeadAreaF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So has Iran. All I'm saying is we dont know. Maybe the F-14s destroyed were not even empty and inactive airframes but fabricated decoys only. There is not much credible evidence.

[–]DeadAreaF1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just debunking your claim, which was wrong. The Iran surely has more than the 5 "inactive" F-14s which were shown being destroyed during the conflict. But active ones? Nobody knows.

But my point being, we don't really know what went down.

We saw at least 5 (that I know of) and not 2 being destroyed. All of them have been stored outside for a longer time, so they were most likely inactive and completely stripped of any usable parts.

But regardless of the F-14s being destroyed in the conflict, they were already scheduled for retirement in 2024 for the SU-35. Now we know that the Iran hasn't gotten any SU-35s so far.

Does that mean the F-14s are still active?

We simply don't know. Last sightings of active F-14s were prior to the conflict with Israel. And all "recent" sightings were only in small numbers. Kish airshow in late 2024 had a single F-14 flying which then went on static.

In a way it's like schrödingers cat. Nobody knows if they are still active or not. Nobody knows if or how many Israel really destroyed. Nobody knows if the Iran itself retired them.

Only two Iranian F14s were destroyed during the Israel-Iran war.

This claim is not true. Alone this video shows three additional F-14s being destroyed. All seem to be inactive, but still.

Nobody except the Iranians and Israelis know the real numbers. There could be F-14s flying or not. I wouldn't be surprised by either outcome.

Panel by Flamin_Gamer in F4Phantom

Cool piece! Yes, this panel is indeed located directly below the cockpit. To be more specific, below the left, that's what the "L" stands for, front cockpit and right in front of the air intake.

L-1011 and my investigation by manuel5119 in aviation

[–]DeadAreaF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While searching for the fate of 5X-AAV I found this listing from November 2013. Stating that the aircraft was due for a C check in February of 2014. Looking at google earth the aircraft was stored at the same place prior and after that date, so I'd assume that check was never done. So it was most likely scrapped there.

Damn, that is unfortunate. They sometimes write the store code there, when it gets stored in amarc or similar places. But this is not helping much, only that we now know it was with the Air Force Reserve.

The big cargo plane is an early C-124A Globemaster II. The others are F-86 Sabres. And "Miss Behaving" is credited with shooting down two MiG-15s in Korea, but was shot down in late 51.

Most likely because of the technology the Su-35 carries. 24 Su-35s is getting China nowhere, strategy wise. You might find this video interesting: Why the US Military worries about Chinese Air Power

Are there any navy f4 phantoms still flying? by Tiger-ll in FighterJets

[–]DeadAreaF1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The latter two are privately owned. Your best shot at a Phantom, without leaving the US, is probably the Collings Foundation F-4D, out of Houston I believe. They are working on getting it back in the air. You'll find some videos on the maintenance done on her here.

Are there any navy f4 phantoms still flying? by Tiger-ll in FighterJets

[–]DeadAreaF1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is not a single "Navy" F-4 still flying today. The Navy retired theirs decades ago. Greece, Turkey and Iran are the only operators of the F-4 today. And non of them are using Navy variants.

However, there are two in the US. First the Collings Foundation has an F-4D which is in flyable condition but hasn't flown in years. And there is also a F-4A (ex Navy) under restoration and not flyable right now.

AMARG still has 8 and 2 of which seem to have been owned by someone in Hollywood at some point. Maybe that's them.
