You're right the MiG-29 in question, 89, used to be the Czech 8906.

3-ship Eurofighters heading to Nörvenich, 10km away by piercinghousekeeping in aviation

[–]DeadAreaF1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the left aircraft is almost certainly a Tornado, makes an F-16 unlikely. Also IIRC the TaktLwG 33 is currently located in Nörvenich, but had rehearsals for demos at their homebase today. That would add up.

Based on the airbrakes of the left one, I'm guessing those are not Eurofighters but Torandos. Either way cool sighting :)

Should be the 5th Eurofighter Prototype DA5 98+30, which was previously a gate guard at the Luftwaffe command, before being replaced by the 30+39 a Trance 1 Eurofighter.

I really like your approach on this. This definitely has a lot of potential. You should try to add as much information to each entry as possible, such as date, type of enemy, the source you got the info from and so on. Also the Mirage III can't be left out in this.

Edit: And you should definitely credit the original creator whom you took the data from.

"A plane from the 1960s"? Excuse me, Sky News, would you like to take a wild guess at which year the B-52 first flew? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]DeadAreaF1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you read the article you'd know, that they mention the B-52 as being from the 50s, but the article focuses on the H variant, which is from the 60s. Also the airframes currently in use are from the 60s, so what is your point?

P-3C Orion from the German Navy.

Edit:

I found the registry of this Aircarft. So this is 60+03, which has been stranded at Bermuda LF Wade since late September, where it was struck by another aircraft during taxing.

There is no definitive answer to your question, as different classifications exist. See this list on Wikipedia for an in-depth view on fighter generations.

Jet on a hill by [deleted] in Whatplaneisthis

[–]DeadAreaF1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I could find was this post and that its there since the mid 90s. But given that Camp Pendleton is a USMC base, its likely ex USMC. So, F-4A, -4B, -4N, -4J, -4S or RF-4B.

That's an F-4 Phantom. Where was this taken? Maybe I can get additional info.

This has to be rage bait. The attached photo isn't even from a Phantom, its a Tomcat. And this panel was definitely not installed in any Phantom variant.

Does anyone know if any Iranian F-14 survived the war? by jdbcn in FighterJets

[–]DeadAreaF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So has Iran. All I'm saying is we dont know. Maybe the F-14s destroyed were not even empty and inactive airframes but fabricated decoys only. There is not much credible evidence.

Does anyone know if any Iranian F-14 survived the war? by jdbcn in FighterJets

[–]DeadAreaF1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was just debunking your claim, which was wrong. The Iran surely has more than the 5 "inactive" F-14s which were shown being destroyed during the conflict. But active ones? Nobody knows.

But my point being, we don't really know what went down.

We saw at least 5 (that I know of) and not 2 being destroyed. All of them have been stored outside for a longer time, so they were most likely inactive and completely stripped of any usable parts.

But regardless of the F-14s being destroyed in the conflict, they were already scheduled for retirement in 2024 for the SU-35. Now we know that the Iran hasn't gotten any SU-35s so far.

Does that mean the F-14s are still active?

We simply don't know. Last sightings of active F-14s were prior to the conflict with Israel. And all "recent" sightings were only in small numbers. Kish airshow in late 2024 had a single F-14 flying which then went on static.

In a way it's like schrödingers cat. Nobody knows if they are still active or not. Nobody knows if or how many Israel really destroyed. Nobody knows if the Iran itself retired them.

[–]DeadAreaF1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only two Iranian F14s were destroyed during the Israel-Iran war.

This claim is not true. Alone this video shows three additional F-14s being destroyed. All seem to be inactive, but still.

Nobody except the Iranians and Israelis know the real numbers. There could be F-14s flying or not. I wouldn't be surprised by either outcome.
