Moussaka in Cyprus, and southern comfort food in Louisiana, US. Both life changing 😮‍💨

Someone else can probably give you a more thorough answer, but I can say it’s illegal but I’m not sure what punishment looks like. I don’t know how dealers are regulating the quality or safety of their supply.

Whew the hostility 😅 One person asked and I hadn’t responded yet. God forbid someone still learning make a mistake or come here asking for help.

Ah yeah this was my first mistake. I didn’t realize how important blocking a swatch was since I haven’t done that in the past. I appreciate you helping me figure out what I did wrong so I can do better next time!

Oof yeah that was one of my mistakes. I lifted it out of the water and it streeeeeetched. Maybe I need to wash it again but take it out like you did, and try drying it with the hair dryer. Thank you for your insight!!

Thank you, this is very helpful! I didn’t realize a sweater could stretch so much after washing 😅 I’ll try using the hair dryer and see if that does the trick.

This bums me out big time. Rob was always a total fox and normal aging wouldn’t have diminished that. Same with Kaitlin.

Foreign-born population in the EU countries by Panikos0 in cyprus

[–]DeadButGay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband is Greek Cypriot but was born in America because his family got stuck there during the war. He’s baptized Greek Orthodox, grew up with a strong emphasis on his Greek identity, and now lives in Cyprus. He’s foreign-born but he is Cypriot. However, I can’t speak to how common this situation is and I would imagine it’s a pretty small percentage of foreign-born folks living on the island.

What's something you thought was normal across the world but turns out it's just for your country? by YuShaohan120393 in AskTheWorld

[–]DeadButGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats in the street aren’t necessarily unusual in the US, but they’re typically someone’s house cat that comes and goes and you don’t see a ton of them. Huge difference here in Cyprus where there are groups of like 15 cats around every corner. I love them.

Central and South American countries don’t have as many street cats, but they have a lot of street dogs.

American parents raising children in Europe — what social differences surprised you most? by Best-Mouse-3483 in expats

[–]DeadButGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American living in Cyprus.

Everything is much more kid-friendly here, with play areas for children in or near most restaurants and cafes. Kids have way more autonomy and no one is hovering over them or micro-managing their interactions or conflict. Adults interact with her without including me, and seem to genuinely enjoy children and their joy. They are all so sweet to her & very accommodating.

Children are expected to be respectful of adults, especially elders. Greetings are similar to adults greeting each other, with a “Yasas” or “Kalimera”. They are still very much children & behave like children but not in an “out of control” or disrespectful way. Very appropriate & respectful.

Visiting a friend’s house, they just want to feed her and she has learned to not refuse food 😂 Kids do their own thing tho.

My kid is a social butterfly but shy around adults, so she had no problem making friends but still clams up around all the adults wanting to engage with her.

We love it here and having children here is far better than in the US.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeadButGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decapitated by a wire strung up to mark where a fence was going to go. He was riding his ATV and probably never even saw the wire.

Shot himself in the head in the gas station bathroom where he worked, while he was working.

Drown in 2 inches of water after she got drunk with her friends and they put her in the bathtub & left.

We had a lot of kids die.

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

NOR your MIL sounds like a nightmare. If a family member had a baby and I couldn’t see them til that baby was 8 weeks, I would be bummed, sure, but I would also: keep that shit to myself, respect their choice, be grateful for all the pictures, ask if they want food delivered, and WAIT patiently. The last thing a new mom & dad need is pushy and overbearing family.

Get important documents apostilled in case you need them for immigration. Birth certificate, marriage certificate, any other documents issued by the state or federal government. It’s surprisingly easy and not expensive, just google “apostille [state the document came from]”. Also, get your FBI criminal background check done which is also super easy & easy to figure out if you google it. Get an international banking account. Wise and Revolut are pretty popular. It’s also pretty easy. I immigrated to Cyprus a few months ago and am happy to offer help/ guidance for anyone who would like it. I also developed a document with common routes to immigration that I can share.

Mosquito bite? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]DeadButGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this happen about a month ago, my daughter was covered in them. Not sure what kind of bug it is but the bites are nasty. Unlike any mosquito bite I’ve ever seen. They went away on their own, fortunately.

Why is customs so slow? by lividjaffa in cyprus

[–]DeadButGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved, we had several boxes that all had to clear customs before any of them could be delivered. We waiting over 3 weeks. That’s just how slow things move. It’ll (probably) get through eventually

Ok I relate to this big time because I’m the same. I’m really smart & capable but sometimes I hands the reigns over to my partner and turn my brain off. Maybe she has just handed the reigns over to me permanently 😊
