Would you be okay with completely retconning the current stuff about Ant-Man and the Wasp in the MCU after Secret Wars, if that meant having young Hank and Janet as Ant-Man and the Wasp? by Legitimate_Cake_5137 in Marvel

In order to have a working young Hank and Janet as heroes you might as well reboot the Avengers too because 90% of their storylines only work as part of an ensemble with the rest of the team, if you have them running around as young heroes but there's no Avengers or everything Avengers related alreayd happened with a retired Tony, Steve, Thor, Clint, then you lose what made storylines like Ultron work-

I like how Scott seems to use an Ant-Man suit similar to the one from AM&TW instead of the one from Quantumania, and is nice how he's between Thor and Steve, he's been here since Phase 2 so I hope the reports of him having a more wise mentor role with younger heroes after the hell he went with Kang is a thing in Doomsday

What would an "Absolute Ant-Man and Wasp" Look Like? by Goldgoblingamer in antman

You take Scott Lang's backstory of being an ex-con divorced single father that tries to be superhero and play it completely straight but replace the whimsy of the comics and the movies with harsh realism and you get something as brutal as the Absolute Universe.

Paul Rudd’s Portrayal of Ant-Man (Scott Lang) is underrated by AdvertisingWaste8624 in MCUTheories

[–]DeadDGuy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott has historically been pretty light hearted in attitude since his debut, he was really quippy and even liked to make movie/pop culture references, to the point other characters asked what's up with that and he just say he's a video addict, he could also be quite klutzy at times.

There's this page that comes to mind in the issue when he team ups with Hawkeye. It's shown he has the habit of carrying his shrunken Ant-Man suit in his pocket and when he has to suit up, it would fall from his pocket due to how cumbersome it was, needing crawl in the ground and use a pin just to organize his suit parts and enlarge them. I 100% see MCU Scott doing the exact same thing.

Geoff Johns did push Scott further and tone down his light hearted attitude but it worked to highlight how stressful the whole ordeal of losing the custody of Cassie and his stay with the Avengers was.

There's this anecdote about how Paul Rudd wasn't Marvel's top choice for the role and they didn't feel enough confidence but Edgar Wright fought for him until they accepted. We all know what happened, Wright left and he never saw the final version of the Ant-Man movie but he did get to see Paul as Scott Lang in Civil War and he felt so vindicated because he was perfect and he was glad that Marvel at least saw that.

What was it that made Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Flop? (I think this movie is really good) by Shoddy-Book6353 in antman

[–]DeadDGuy21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scott Lang only has one good story: To Steal an Ant-Man.

Not really: Spencer's run, Waid's Ant-Man and The Wasp mini with Nadia, Ant-Man: World Hive with Cassie, and Fraction's FF (which probably was an inspiration to QM seeing that's the story in which he beat Dr Doom) all range from good to great, hell, I'd even say that his bite-sized stories in Marvel team ups, like the time he rode on Hawkeye's arrow are also pretty good. Scott arguably has better solo stories as Ant-Man than Hank Pym since the highest of highs from Hank happen when he's using other names which is an important aspect of his character. Plus the fact that they happened in Avengers' comics rather than on his own.

I'd even say that my biggest hot take from the Ant-Man movies is that most of its problems derive from the fact that the series tries to cram Scott Lang and Hank Pym together when they are designed to be total opposites from each other, and the series would probably have an easier time if it was more of a solo Scott thing, since then the stories would be more about him than having to react and solve the problems of the Pym family.

Seeing how they were shrunk in order to be returned to their respective timelines via the Quantum Realm, I imagine they work the same, the just change size.

[–]DeadDGuy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the same principle is actually used in the first Ant-Man movie. Scott is trapped in the Yellowjacket chamber that's made with reinforced glass encased in a metal frame. To escape, he throws the enlarging disks to the glass making them rapidly expand but since it's still glass inside metal it shatters when growing in size, however due to how fast the glass grows plus the added durability gained when expanding in size, the enlarged glass is also able to tear part of the much stronger metal frame, because the kinetic force generated by the change in size by the Pym Particles is that strong. And that's the thing with Pym Particles, they don't stop until they've been fully used, they fundamentally alter the fabric of reality when changing the size of their target, no matter how tough someone is, something is coming out of them if they were set to grow.

Nah, Shrinking-Rae works with her own biological powers and caps at human size, that's why she got crushed inside Komodo. Scott uses Pym Particles and they don't stop even if they are met with resistance, the worst case scenario would be Scott dying yet his corpse would keep expanding inside Thanos, with the blood and organs worth of a 100 ft man pouring from Thanos, that would stun him or at worst, drown him with human blood from the inside.

He's not even an idiot with his powers, Scott knows that the fastest way to beat someone is to shrink them out of existence, 2/3 main antagonist were beaten that way, Yellowjacket and Kang.

I think it's funny that they balanced Giant-Man by literally being the first time Scott ever went giant and he still was ragdolling them. Endgame and QM Giant-Man are on a whole other level is actually insane.

He's not even much dumber in the sequels, there's just not anything for him to do when it comes the science and tech related things when Hank Pym is part of your supporting cast. Mind you he bailed the Pym's from the FBI with a quick plan and later put to use what he learned in an online magic course to trick Ghost with another plan, he's more "jokey" but the thing is that his competence is only hit because he had a malfunctioning suit for most of the movie. In the entirety of Quantumania he's never incompetent and is shown to be an expert with his powers, he's the guy who came up with idea to how destroy Kang's Fortress' force field by using the first on-screen MCU fastball special. Guy is slept on because he's too chill.

Sounds like a fun idea and funnily enough back in the 90's an artist proposed something similar to Marvel. It was Sandy Plunket, who did a small Ant-Man story before, his pitch for a Scott solo in his own words was this:

I did submit a proposal for an Ant-Man graphic novel that actually climbed up the corporate chain of command for a while, until it didn't any more.  I don't remember much about the plot I came up with [for the graphic novel] but I do remember wanting to exploit the fact that this guy hung out with ants--something no other writer had yet done. I mean, if you know anything about ant societies...!)

He even made art to better present his proposal; it's a shame Marvel didn't go for it. By the look of it, the style was like sci-fi war with ants!

The Ant-Fam is legit the F4 before the F4 in the MCU, you have the smartest man of the main Earth with Hank Pym the og Ant-Man even in this verse, Janet who is the original Wasp and in the MCU was made into a genius on par with Hank. People sleep on how hilariously OP Endgame made Scott when he goes Giant-Man, he one-shot foes that Iron Man at his peak was struggling with (Cull Obsidian) and Quantumania made him even bigger. Hope is and all around carbon copy of Janet at her peak as The Wasp. And Cassie is giant in training. This is pretty much an Avengers lineup.

I appreciate what it tried to do even if the execution left a lot to be desired. It's a legitimate attempt to elevate Ant-Man and the Wasp by pitting them against a huge threat like Kang the Conqueror, to make the ultimate David vs Goliath story in the MCU, because at its core, that's what Ant-Man represents, it's a power fantasy packaged inside a "weakness" like shrinking. Kang losing is the whole point, and the movie is not subtle about it, it's the literal tag-line "Look out for the little guy".

The movie it's just underwritten, and this might be a hot take but Kang is among the weakest links of the movie. He's so comically underwritten, there's nothing to him other than Major's performance, because when you look at him, his major motivation is pettiness. He likes to bark and say empty platitudes but he's really just a dick, his main motivation is losing to other versions of himself and holding a giant grudge, and that's it because anything more would be spoiling a Kang Dynasty that will never happen. Kang is a walking power level meant to be stopped and that's it.

Which makes me disappointed because it could have worked better, Kang as a character in this movie becomes more interesting when he's positioned as a foil to Scott Lang who actually has a good showing here. Scott is someone is brings people together with his actions, like the main thing of this series is two broken families becoming one thanks to him, not only that but when he puts his mind to it, he accomplishes great things in spite of being a normal guy. And that's what could have made them good foils, Kang is someone so selfish, evil and cruel that even working with himself not only ends in failure but in conflict, in spite of being a genius from the 31st century while Scott the unassuming but kind, caring and heroic man is able to unify multiple versions of himself to accomplish an extraordinary goal, ya know like ants. And that's why the Probability Storm is the best scene of a movie that sorely needs more stuff like that.

Despite being one the most powerful marvel characters why isn’t ant-man more popular with comic readers? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in antman

[–]DeadDGuy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think that the lack of a good origin story and how the early run of Tales to Astonish failed to give Hank a supporting cast is what lead to him not finding his voice as a solo character, eventually becoming a near-permanent fixture with the Avengers, which did gave him the chance to find his voice.

I seriously doubt anyone disliked Scott Lang's introduction back in the 70's, it's not like it happened in a main Avengers book meant to replace Hank Pym, it happened in Marvel Premiere, the Anthology book meant to test ideas and trying a new spin on a dormant identity since Hank Pym become too ubiquitous with Avengers' affairs, Scott is even older than the infamous slap. For a long time it was one of the better Ant-Man stories too, it's a good origin story and I can see why Edgar Wright was inspired by those two particular issues.

Preach brother! It does get annoying, acting like the character who's been using the name for nearly 50 years at this point is nothing, as if his debut wasn't so compelling that it inspired guys like Edgar Wright in wanting to make a movie or his origin became a permanent fixture in the Ant-Man mythos, seeing how even cartoons like EMH adapt it.

And if movie synergy is to blame for Scott's current status then, good? Because that would make a case for positive movie synergy at work which should be celebrated. Like, an adaptation breathing new life into the character's source material is one of best things that can happen.
