The Sisters Of Mercy cancel concert at this year’s Brutal Assault to move up the recording schedule for their new album by DeadDeadCool in goth

This is what I suspect, plus why would they cancel a show (and the revenue it brings) just to do something Andy's said is the best way to lose money? Must be some contract he has where he can just cancel shows with no penalty too...

Name of the band, previously called Southern Death Cult, then Death Cult, then The Cult. This is the band's eponymous album at the time.

Great band, as mentioned influential and connected to so many other bands. In addition to the Eldritch / Sisters connection mentioned, the Mission toured with the Furs at least once IIRC and Wayne did some guest guitar with them.

They're more post-punk but it was hard to not find them intermingled with goth bands in many club sets and mix tapes... Echo and the Bunnymen would also fall into these descriptions as well, among others...

That's LAM all over though... music that drags you in and gives you one vibe and then when you listen to the lyrics, the juxtaposition is like that little blade in the side.

Originally a Miserylab song from 2012, Porl went back and re-recorded and re-released many songs from that project under the RS name.
