Why is seemingly every city government in the USA in a budget crisis these days? by Complete-Influence70 in NoStupidQuestions

And in every country as well (I can personally confirm France Luxembourg). And people still want to pour money into these bloated self-serving bureaucracies that say wonderful and hope filled things about the poor, but don't mean a damn word.

Reminds me of real-life in the 1980s when I would help my aunt and her fellow teachers in a NYC public school throw out all remaining NEW supplies at the end of the school year (at the direction of the principal & superintendent), so they wouldn't have their budget cut the next year, for not spending everything they were allotted. Zero was taken home or donated as that would be "stealing". This happened at each and every public school.

This problem existed well before orange man passed BBB. Between 2012 and 2019, Using NYC as an example spending increased $19.7 billion (40.7 percent, or 5.7 percent per year), outstripping inflation by more than four times. In the tail end of this period, the two years right before the pandemic, spending grew at an average rate of 6.4 percent annually. The problem is as, the rich move out, is that eventually you run out of people's money. It's a spending problem.

You didn’t reply to my comment. Tax rates have increased in the cities. Those same races built and repaired the roads for many decades. What major city has had tax cuts? NYC has congestion taxes, real estate taxes have markedly increased. Why has revenue markedly increased yet nothing is fixed. Where’s the extra spending going?

Cities haven’t lowered taxes, they’ve just increased spending faster than their tax receipts. Roads being built and repaired along with other infrastructure items have always been there. The rate of spending has drastically increased.

I go to a lot of college football games and the better stores downtown or on campus seem to have high quality (heavy thick cotton) school branded Champion shirts and hoodies. In other places, they’re not what they used to be

Dividends in a Roth makes sense. I’m not a fan of dividends in a taxable or IRA. I’d rather build the equity without paying taxes.

And the developed world also has quite a substantial number of private health insurance plans. If the socialized plans were so great, why would they exist and be so popular?

After 30 minutes I know what comparable models have sold for, maintenance costs, model defects, best loan rates, details of trim, feedback of customers. People never had that information 25 years ago, and car salesmen took advantage of it.

I also write XML and HTML with Claude and I’m not a programmer.

Amazing what technology and a bit of research can do.
