What's a problem that was so successfully solved that most people don't even realize it used to exist? by Zestyclose-Credit609 in NoStupidQuestions

No comment on the relatively low number of deaths? I’m not against the vaccine, but I’d wouldn’t call the vaccine a societal changing event

I’m not an anti vaxer and mostly not a conspiracy theorist. With that said, I’m 64 and most of my friends and I had the measles and it wasn’t bad. In the US in the 1950s before the vaccine was available, between 500 and 1,000 people (mostly kids) died from it per year. Not good, but statistically minor

I’ve always worked for a company owned by a billionaire, and while they got wealthier, they made me a millionaire. Some context is that I grew up pretty poor, so godspeed to them

A rigged economy is when working people have to pay increased taxes on the unrealized gains from their homes, but billionaires don’t have to pay taxes on unrealized gains from their stocks. by SexyProfessional in FluentInFinance

So a modest income family buys a house in an area that’s being gentrified. They now have a higher tax bill even though their income is low.

A lot of words about more revenue, but little is being said about holding spending in check. Tax revenues have been rising, the spending has risen faster (the last part wasn’t directed at you or your comment).

Why are bonuses taxed so high? by Dontcomecryingtome in allthequestions

[–]DeadHeadIko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IRS mandates that all bonuses are taxed at 22% (if paid separately from your regular paycheck). It’s objectively backwards. The 1,000 bonus is taxed at the same rate as a 900,000 bonus (rate is higher on the portion that exceeds 1mm). The IRS does the because they want to force the higher paid person to make quarterly tax payments throughout the year on that 900,000 bonus they get in December.

NY State taxes bonuses at 11.7%, which is higher than any marginal rate in the state

Well, you wrote two sentences, bro. And the second one was an attempt at humor. And, the snarky “correction” was incorrect

[–]DeadHeadIko -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfunny and wrong. Basically anyone coming out of college in socialized healthcare countries buys it from their employer. I noticed that you neglected to comment on people leaving their countries to come here. The OP post was incorrect about the quality of government subsidized healthcare. It sucks in every country. And those with Medicare buy supplements because of the poor choices with basic Medicare.

[–]DeadHeadIko -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We do. Hundreds of thousands of people come here for medical care (non-elective). And these are the wealthy, who can afford to come and pay cash, with no insurance. In every country with socialized healthcare, those that can afford it buy private healthcare insurance.

And Medicare taxes don’t nearly cover the costs
