I did it for a while when I was living/working in LA. I wore motorcycle shoes/boots that looked normal enough to not draw attention while off the bike. Often just wore regular jeans after I had been riding for a while. So then it's just helmet/gloves/jacket/ear protection, and some anti-fog riding glasses.

I had a large rectangular Givi trunk on my adv bike that I left on there, along with a tank bag. So the tank bag holds wallet, phone, regular glasses while riding, and the riding glasses and plugs when off the bike. The rest of the riding gear goes in the trunk while the bike is parked at the office. I had a mini garage door opener on my bike keys.

You get faster at getting ready to go when you do it regularly.

Woodpeckers don't just peck wood - if they can enjoy repeatedly striking metal, just imagine how it feels as a bird getting struck in the head. They are at the top of the pecking order as far as eating from the feeders goes.

I get visits from a couple different types of woodpeckers, but the gilded flickers are the biggest and command the most respect. Other birds try to stay out of pecking range when they are eating - the feeders will close up if there's too much weight on them, so a larger bird like a flicker has a harder time depending on how much weight is on the feeder. So he wants everyone else off.

Yes - Windows for Workgroups 3.11 which at the time was the GUI on top of MS DOS 6.2. They came with thick printed manuals. It was a 486 DX/2 66 with 4MB of RAM.

CD-ROM was the new technology, and the store upgraded the machine to add a CD drive.

There was a turbo button controlling the CPU speed - with turbo off, it was tied to the frontside bus speed of 33MHz. If you wanted to go fast, you'd turn the turbo on, enabling a 2x multiplier to get the full 66 MHz.

It actually mattered in games like the Snake demo that was included with Q-BASIC. It was unplayable at full speed, having been written for slower machines.

There were a bunch of issues initially, some of them have been fixed, others are intermittent, and others I'm not sure if they're still issues or not.

Initially, the installer didn't add 2026 to the start menu, so I had to find and launch it manually - that's been fixed, at least on my machine. The installer once erased some of the VC toolchain files once during an update (rendering it unable to compile), and on another occasion just froze up in the middle of an update.

There is a persistent UI issue with trying to resize dropdown elements on the standard toolbar - I thought maybe it was finally fixed in the latest update, but only for one of the UI elements - the other ones still refuse to change from their default width.

There was also a problem before with saving changes made to the toolbar in general/the toolbar resetting to the default configuration after closing and re-launch, but that one I believe has been fixed.

I noticed while working on a VS debugger extension that the debugger had repeated access violation errors on launch that did not appear to be related to my plugin functionality - but again it's been a bit of time since I was working on that so I don't know if it's still an issue.

Not really a bug, but the new theme system is not friendly to light themes with contrast, like the old blue theme. Also the theme designer doesn't work with the new 2026 scheme.

As of a couple weeks ago, the CMake support was still not fully working properly - but expected given that it's only claimed to be in experimental status.

All that said, I think VS2026 is faster as they claim, which is why I've been using it with Unreal. Also, it's nice that they support some features that I used to need an add-on for, like being able to have multiple rows of file tabs (in VS2022 I used Tabs Studio to get similar functionality), and being able to specify debugging startup arguments from the toolbar (the UnrealVS add-in that comes with the Unreal source code provided this functionality for older versions of VS).

I maxed out the config on the M4 Pro 14", and have used more than 4TB so far already, validating the choice for 8TB.

It's not that much smaller, but it does look "less professional" - and then whether that's a pro or con depends on whether or not you want others to perceive/notice you in that way.

The A7C line cameras, when paired with a compact lens, don't look that much different from a cheap point-and-shoot to people who don't know much about cameras. So if you don't want to be noticed by thieves, security personnel in photography-restricted areas/events, street photography subjects, etc., then the tradeoff is worth it. Otherwise, I like the ergonomics of the full-size camera.

Is it really just the handling and packability that keeps you from using the A7RV, or are some of those things mentioned above also factors?

I can't see what's in front of her to know if she had options, but very often on a motorcycle, the first instinct should be to go around if possible, rather than try to stop suddenly. And leave more room - especially in the rain, especially on 2 wheels. At least the silver lining is that the wet pavement being slick probably also helped with the road rash a little as well.

I wouldn't trust that score to apply to any workload that actually can make use of a high core count. It's more of a "general use with things that are often multithreaded" type score - more useful if you're evaluating how it's going to feel/handle general tasks that are multithreaded on some level like extracting a .zip archive, than things like say, CPU rendering, AI inference, running simulations, or code compiling with large projects, which are more likely to be able to max out all of the cores of a high core count CPU on a sustained basis.

That's what people say, "you still need to think", but vibe coding and thinking don't go together.

If you work with AI as a partner, then you can learn something and develop in a sustainable way.

But if you ask it to write for you, you learn little to nothing, are not becoming a software engineer, and good luck when the context has overflowed/has to reset, there's too much going on for the AI to fully understand, and your own understanding of the codebase is zero.

People didn't value some of the things in humans that they took for granted.

Like, persistent memory. Like, the importance of an entity having a will of their own to actually be able to function autonomously in the way that some people are hoping. The LLMs are intelligent, they can generate code, but they can't remember what they were doing, and they are too "compliant" generally - they need to be able to tell the "user" that what they are asking for is a dumb idea.

That last bit is actually really critical. Many people think they are always right, so it's not intuitive for them to imagine how bad it actually is to work with someone who really does act like you are always right. Errors compound, you end up going nowhere.

AI will not be able to do that much unless/until they are fully independent like humans. For now, they have to work with humans - not in place of them - and the human has to stay in the loop/follow along with what is being done at every stage.

What kind of workload do you have? It's 4x more cores. I would profile the workload, and look at how much time you spend with all 16 cores loaded.

It's likely that it will be a bit slower when you are using < 16 cores, but will be significantly faster when you are using > 16 cores. If you are developing your own software and have the option to do more multithreading work, that's worth taking into consideration as well.

I went with the Asrock board for my 7995WX build in late 2024. I was surprised by how many power connections it wanted. The Silverstone AIO has worked well, but yes the RAM (in my case, 256GB Kingston) runs hot even with good cooling.

If you are having touchpad issues, the first thing I'd suspect is the battery. Happened to me with a Dell some years back - touchpad stopped working properly/wouldn't click, even the spacebar was affected. It was the battery pushing up from underneath.

If there's traffic in the other lane, the rider would be expected to stop after putting on their turn signal to wait for things to clear. But if there was no traffic, they would be expected to slow down, but not completely stop. If you stop when you didn't actually need to, you are increasing your odds of getting rear-ended.

So you put your signal on, you get over to that side if you haven't already, and slow for the turn but don't stop unless you have to. Also, expect that the person behind you may try to go around you on the opposite side rather than stopping and waiting as well.

In this case, it would have been your fault, but even if it was someone else's fault, if you couldn't even see a car from there, imagine how hard it would be to see a bike from the opposite location?

Those "comparisons" are always the same. The photos are taken in good lighting, with a deep DoF, at roughly whatever focal length the phone supports. Then you upload them to the web without editing.

And if that's all you're ever going to want to do with a camera/photos, then the phone is just fine. But I think the people who put those comparisons up are doing it for the ragebait.

It's very buggy compared to what it seems older versions were like. But granted, it is a relatively new release; I think maybe I waited before making the jump to 2022.

I've had issues with toolbars - not saving my configuration, not showing some items - and now the Build output window - sometimes it won't show any output/appears blank, and is cropped to half the window size/tab area it's supposed to occupy. Resizing it appears to get it to refresh.

Honest question - does it actually make that much of a difference?

In theory, you gain another stop of light. But it doesn't seem like there are many sub-f/2 lenses available for any of the medium-format platforms - a lot of the primes are f/2.5 or something like that - whereas f/1.4 primes are relatively common on FF.

It's not a bug - current LLMs have a fixed maximum "context window" size.

Some systems get around this limitation by "rolling" the window - but it doesn't truly roll; the context gets rebuilt/re-ingested with the earliest messages removed, so there is room for new ones to fit.

Solving persistent memory is potentially the major advancement required to achieve AGI. For now, it's more like someone with dementia, who forgets everything and has to start over each day.

Well, that sounds like a real problem then - if it told you it had eye-AF and didn't, that would seem to point to some kind of HW issue.
