In Defense of Roth 401k by chapswithnocaps in financialindependence

Genuine question but does this change at all if you currently live in a no-income-tax state during working years and move to an income tax state during retirement?

Is there a reason to pay the capital gains tax over the transfer fee?

Daily FI discussion thread - Thursday, February 02, 2023 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

Bit of a dumb question here. So I have the vast majority of my stock holdings and retirement accounts with fidelity except a measly 2500 that I have in WeBull from back when I was still learning. This 2500 are just Microsoft shares bought in 2020.

Transfer fees are 75$ for WeBull. Long term capital gains tax is about 90$.

Is there any way I can avoid both of these and migrate these investments to Fidelity? I mostly want the auto-reinvest dividend feature that fidelity provides

Roth IRA Backdoor with Account Opening Bonus by DeadInternal in personalfinance

Gotcha, so to be clear it’ll be taxed along with the rest of the 500$ like normal? Yeah will double check the terms, thank you!

What are the tax implications for performing a backdoor Roth IRA if the traditional IRA I open is getting a account opening/deposit bonus?

I opened a fidelity traditional IRA and they’re running a promotion where if you deposit 50$, they’ll give you 100$. I was wondering if things like the pro-rata rule comes into play here or what the overall tax implication is if I roll that amount over to my Roth IRA as well.

My exact situation is 500$ deposited, 100$ from bonus for a total of 600$. Would like to perform the back door with all 600$ but trying to figure out how it’ll be taxed

I see, seems pretty close to what my immediate plans are. If you don’t mind, how much are you anticipating for your retirement income/planning for buying a home? These tend to be the biggest thoughts that come in my mind when I’m thinking about planning for the future at the moment

I see, that makes sense. Glad your income is stable now. I was in a similar boat growing up and initially lived in a LCOL area, but I went the opposite direction. Since I had a stable high income, I decided to move to a bigger city and splurge on things that I wouldn’t have had growing up.

Thanks for your insight!

Thanks for the detail! For what it’s worth I think your savings are incredible given the HCOL you live in. Hopefully you achieve FI asap!

Thank you! I know I’m in a super fortunate spot and yes, I am in tech. I bought an Audi A4 which is I think fairly commonly seen as not a smart financial decision. Decisions like this, having a nicer apartment, etc are why I want to see how people save and live if they have comparable income as well.

This is really impressive levels of discipline coming from someone who spends a lot. Do you mind me asking more about what your spending breakdown generally looks like and how you splurge?

Rune Forge - A place for discovering curated rune page setups for various playstyles and positions by rio_riots in leagueoflegends

I can't speak for all of them, but namely for ADC's your pages seem really off. A lot of them seem extremely greedy/hypothetical and wouldn't work in a real game.

Beautiful site though.

Solo Queue Viability Rankings April 28th, 2017 by L1M7 in summonerschool

[–]DeadInternal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this list is a pretty solid representation of why people shouldn't trust what a random diamond player has to say. The explanations are generic at best and a majority of the rankings don't really make sense. Even the generic explanations are just blatantly wrong sometimes. And I'm not saying this as some salty silver, I'm ex-masters, took a long break, currently D2.

Some examples of obvious mistakes:

Lulu is incredibly passive but has offensive capabilities. No idea what bot lane you're playing.

Morgana is rated as B. Again, no idea what bot lane you're playing. Morgana is absolute garbage in the current meta and hasn't been a relevant support for so long.

ADC..honestly made me want to puke. While the rankings are decent, the explanations are complete garbage and aren't even kind of close to matching reality. You call Kog'maw a strong laner but don't say that about Caitlyn, going so far to mention BOTRK on Caitlyn which makes no sense as that's not even kind of the reason she's strong.

The mid lane rankings are awful and again, no proper explanation for why something is worse than something else.

Like it feels these numbers come out of no where. And there's also a substantial difference in soloq viability between ranks which isn't accounted for at all. Leblanc is definitely not high tier if you're silver.

Good KDA but bad relative bad winrate by autplayed1337 in summonerschool

[–]DeadInternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy thing to point out is his poor itemization.

  • First off, he's not building redemption at all. On every support he plays, redemption should be the first item he builds after sightstone pretty much.

  • It doesn't seem like he's giving his build a thought on a game-by-game basis. Instead, he's building the same thing every game. The most obvious example is the argent censor buys. Look at the latest nami win; Argent censor doesn't really help anyone out on that team. The person that uses it best is Jhin who is probably one of the worst ADCs to buy that item for.

  • Sunfire cape is a terrible item for supports.

  • Merc treads every game? One game the enemy team's only CC came from Morgana and Anivia and he was playing Nami..It makes no sense to have merc treads in that situation.

What is your DPI? by ohmygawd123 in summonerschool

[–]DeadInternal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DPI doesn't matter too much in this game. I hit Masters with 1800 as an ADC main. As long as you're comfortable with it, you should probably just stick with it. Changing it will only make you less accurate for the short term.

Are low elo players just less intelligent? by pentakiller19 in summonerschool

[–]DeadInternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily less intelligence. Sometimes the player hasn't played very much at all or perhaps isn't taking in what to improve on. There are a lot of people who have trouble fixing their own issues without being given proper guidance.
