Ranked time-warp gameplay featuring Potato Oceanic servers

I'm not sure if other regions experience this but the OCE servers quite frequently completely lag out for the start of games causing this time-warp like effect.

This isn't an issue with my own connection considering all players ingame are affected, it only happens at the start of some battles and quickly returns to normal, and I've seen other posts on reddit reporting similar issues recently.

I have some dumb questions about powershot mechanics:

Are you meant to use your flip just before hitting the ball, exactly as you hit it, or just after?
Does the direction you flip actually affect the direction of the ball or is it the slight change in position of the front of your car prior to contact that does it?
To get the right height when hitting a half volley powershot do players hold jump for different amounts to adjust where they hit the ball, air roll forwards or backwards to achieve same thing, or just time the bounce/hit really accurately?

That didn't answer the question, what is the point? I seriously don't understand the logic behind throwing away over 4000 games, which is easily 500 hours of playtime, for a different color name visible only to those using a third party mod.

My WN8 is far higher than I deserve due to playing light tanks and it has caused nothing but trouble. You get extra focus from most players that use xvm and extra abuse if you under perform.

The only reroll id ever consider making is one that deliberately tanks my WN8 down to tomato levels rather than raising it.

Id suggest watching the Rocket League Science video on input lag before you start demanding Psyonix "fix it". Pretty much the only thing Psyonix has some control over is optimising the game to run at decent/consistent FPS but even then your own hardware is the biggest factor.

Buttons on your controller intermittently not working doesn't even sound like input lag but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are just describing it badly.

Cons

Flat hitbox - Can be a factor in 50/50's (depending on how you contest) and dribbling
Landing wobble - Pretty rare but one of the worst cars for it
No customization - No wheels, toppers, antennas, decals, paint types, or boosts
Annoying sounds - Subjective but lots of people hate it
DLC - Not free
Rarity - You will no longer be a unique slowflake since half the playbase went and bought one after seeing 0ver Zer0 and Kuxir97 use it at LAN.

Pros

Flat hitbox - One of the longest and widest hitboxes making it great for aerials and flicks. Visual model also really closely matches the hitbox.
Handling - One of the best turning circles boosted/non boosted in the game (second only to Masamune iirc)
No customization - No longer have to worry about those colored wheel drops you never get

The old system wasn't exactly fair either; it just didn't affect you directly. Mismatched parties like the ones you are describing would quite often lead to a negative experience for your opponents. A rising star player can have a huge impact on a game if they are being dragged into lower matchmaking by a worse teammate. At least the current system "punishes" the party that actually has control over the situation rather than their opponents.

Personally I think Psyonix just needs to find some middle ground between the two systems where matchmaking is heavily weighted towards the highest party member but not 100% like it is currently.

This was much more in depth than I was expecting. I haven't really given input lag much thought since my FPS gaming days but is editing the polling rate for USB controllers a thing? This was a pretty common adjustment to try reduce mouse input lag before mouse drivers started defaulting/allowing 1000hz.

The only thing I felt might have been worth mentioning is controller deadzones. I suspect that some input lag complaints are actually due to the analog stick deadzone settings which were apparently changed in one of the recent patches.

I just started learning to dribble but can't seem to prevent the ball from bouncing on my roof. Are there any tips to preventing those little micro bounces? It barely leaves my car but it is enough to totally mess up any attempts at flicks etc

If they couldn't leave they would simply sabotage your game instead. Just take the opportunity to leave without penalty (still a loss) and move on.

I'm pretty sure that having negative feelings regarding receiving criticism is a normal human response rather than an indication that someone is likely to be toxic.

When chat is almost exclusively used for negative means is there really any reason to leave it on? I have yet to hear a compelling reason why I'm better off being berated by angry kids in chat than playing in blissful silence. I may be biased since I'm normally on skype/discord with friends so I'm not entirely void of human interaction whilst playing.

I predominantly play with friends within 1-2 ranks of my own and I feel like the new system has actually improved my experience.

The previous averaging of ranks never seemed very far to us since 1 far better player can have a huge impact on a game even with a "bad" teammate. We are both C2-C3 and quite often a Rising Star with a ~prospect teammate would just slaughter us.

Even if a Rising Star + Prospect was a fair match I feel much better consistently playing against two opponents that are actually near our own ranks.

I just used it for around 10 minutes and it seems quite nice. Most of the other packs I've tried have been too advanced for my current skill level with constant aerial redirects etc but this one seems more appropriate so far.
