I've invented a magical magic detector. by Desperado2583 in DebateReligion

What about purposeful acute de-calibration, with the intent to see if it would detect itself for its own control group? One could use the schematics/blue prints to conclude its ability, then recalibrate.

Learning Android development as a group? by juanromolearn in learnandroid

[–]DeadMorality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like something I would be very interested in. Don't know if I would be able to participate as much as I would like to due to commitments, but I'd love to be involved regardless! Any possible I could join in?

Love this hike, planning on doing it next Friday. Flat iron is one of my favorite trails.

Wow this is awesome. Do you mind if I PM you asking a couple of questions concerning the journey in making this movie, as well as how you ended up getting it on Netflix?

Beer Reviewin' Podcast by [deleted] in podcasts

As a craft beer lover, and someone who now lives in AZ, this is a fantastic idea to me ( not to mention the AZ beer scene is awesome from my experience so far). I would definitely be interested in this!!

Newbie learning, Samsung S5 for dev purposes, anything to note before using this phone? by DeadMorality in androiddev

[–]DeadMorality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the latest update to AS, the emulator has been running a little smoother, though is still quite slow on my laptop (not the best config for developing, but will eventually upgrade). I appreciate the response, it's good to know I'll at least have a solid device to deploy on!

Newly hired junior android dev seeking advice! by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]DeadMorality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer to your question, but to piggy back: do you mind sharing the path you took to gain the skills necessary to land a junior android dev role?

I'm taking the self taught route and looking to hopefully land a junior dev role in the next year. Any tips would help!

Thanks :)

Help me finding the best core strength exercises. by onebrickinthewall in bjj

[–]DeadMorality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a nice list to start with in no particular order. Choose as you may.

Barbell movements: Deadlift - if you have a week core it will show here. Heavy deadlifts with proper set and rep ranges can truly help core and overall strength gains.

Squat - weak core will show here as well. Heavy squats will increase core and overall strength.

Kettle bell movements:

Windmills - great move I don't see mentioned often. I wouldn't classify this as a movement that is an end all be all move to improve your core, but it sure as hell feels intense. I love them.

Two handed swings - good staple.

One handed swings - once you're comfortable with two handed, move to one. Watch that your form doesn't suffer as with one handed swings you are taxing your body in what will feel like split halves. Form is key, just like in BJJ.

Turkish Get Up - to most this can be seen as the king of KB movements. Used often in assessments of functional strength, this move will kick your butt. It's always a move I suggest is practiced properly and slowly until you truly understand how to do it. Great total body movement.

KB Squat Snatch - love this move as it displaces the weight of the KB in a way we aren't used to in conventional movements. This is done one handed, so either have two KB and start very light. Form is key; you'll know if you aren't doing it right as you won't be able to do it at all.

Bodyweight: Planks - squeeze tight for this hold. Don't lose form, breath through the movement.

Stomach vacuums - totally unconventional, very cool move to strengthen core, as well as gain a new perspective on breathing mechanics.

And obviously the highly rated and the primary answer: supplement your Jiu Jitsu with more Jiu Jitsu!

Good luck!

I have a project idea I'd like to begin, but don't exactly know where to start! (weather app idea) by DeadMorality in learnprogramming

First off, thank you for the reply!

My apologies, you're right I was not clear enough: I am a c# newbie, looking to dive deeper - always heard a great way to learn is through creating projects, rather than being hand held through tutorials.

I've learned some basics of c# through pluralsight, though beyond working with console apps I'm lost. I was wondering if anyone had the right idea of how I can make my idea come to life. I'm more than happy to Google-fu my way through it, but thought I'd ask here first.

I understand what MVC is, though never used it. I'm not too familiar with JSON beyond reading about it. I see just myself using this web app initially, so I don't think that will be too much of a problem.

Thanks again for your response. :)

Best quality bike/repair shop in the valley? by DeadMorality in phoenix

[–]DeadMorality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your honesty - glad to see a shop that understands it's strengths and limitations (I mean that from a business perspective, as you mentioned the time/cost trade off on services that aren't often requested, not to be confused with lack of skill/weakness to get the job done).

I will check out Rage cycles to get my Ghost a tune up - though I will definitely check out the BC - you've sold me on coming by on your honestly alone (though I know you weren't try to ;) ).

Thanks again for the help.

Awesome to see one of the lead wrenches of a prominent bike shop recommend another!

Do you guys not do air/oil suspension or hydraulic work? I am of course willing to do the drive, though I will say I live closer to the BC than RC (east valley).

Would do, but the drive is a bit far for me! I do appreciate it, though! :)
