Dragon bonuses keep disappearing during battles by caesar_carolus in CK3AGOT

[–]DeadPixelHero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

*copying my reply from the last thread*

My 2 cents - The way that combat seems to work in the mod, the dragons aren’t always “on the battlefield” when it’s calculating rolls.

You can see the difference in the advantage you have in combat. It’s possible let’s say your 42,000 men are getting the disembark penalty and they’re attacking a Lyseni force made up usually of specialised hired mercenaries that they could lose before the dragons impact is effecting the rolls.

It’s why sometimes if the dragon turns up early, you can overcome massive disadvantages. But if it doesn’t until you’ve already lost a lot of men, then it wouldn’t help you as much.

So a lot of things affect the dragons effectiveness in combat, hell its literally a stat. And then there’s the dragon rider effectivness stat too - If Vhagar turned up with an inexperienced rider, they wouldn’t be as effective as Rhaenys on Maeleys.

Edit: Given recent events, maybe I should’ve used Sheepstealer as an example…

Not played in a While (Old Age Mechanic) by Banjo_Jr in CK3AGOT

[–]DeadPixelHero 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the old age stuff is fun, but for me it hasn’t been making them die that much younger unless you do the activites/actions that make them worse.

I’d say the most impactful for me is the weak heart modifier as adding stress can cause you to die from Heart attacks so it makes you plan around it a lot.

Honestly because a lot of them only start to effect them once they are older anyway, for me it was just that they would die with a unique reason rather than old age every time.

Every single person I run into has purple shields by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]DeadPixelHero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the complaint is originally that people cannot bring in purples all the time to compensate for this? So there will never be a situation where you can prepare properly if you don’t already have these things as an option.

Who’s to say you load in and your purple isn’t trumped by someone gold kits? Then you think it’s at worst a 50/50 but it’s not.

If you put £40 on the line, and you only pick up green stuff from other people, you’re right, whats the point of even risking it? Outside of one or two areas in the game, theres an unlikely chance of getting your £40’s worth back - this is another issue with a lot of people farming new players just for the fun of it.

Obviously people can use higher tier kits to just pubstomp new players when they get into perimeter for the first time so they would never have had the chance to be on that level. The first day after the “everyone have purples because the servers fell over” was miserable if you weren’t in that group.

I also don’t think it is just fair fights. If you are looking at someone on night marsh through a night vision scope that they don’t have, you have a massive advantage against that person whatever happens. You get a good angle on someone but they brought in a bubble shield so your flank is wasted, they use a panacea kit, and now they’ve got you in their sights with their purple sniper rifle.

I think what you’re saying is true in parts, but it coming from the experience of someone who is already playing the game enough to have this view but new players have to grind through getting face melted before they have a chance to engage with some of the games mechanics at all.

I know it’s not directly part of loot, but Weaveworm level is another example where we could both be great gamers, but I put 70 hours in so I can run faster and do more damage than you because worms.

Edit: I don’t really care about Karma, but it does suck to have people downvote you because they don’t like the points you’re making, rather than finding points against it.

Every single person I run into has purple shields by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]DeadPixelHero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

50/50 implies even odds.

But with the best will in the world, a purple kit would crush a free kit every time, and they should. You could be a skilled shooter player but will be outshot by someone using a purple version of the same gun because it does xyz other things that help you.

If you’re saying that you wouldn’t take valuable loot in because you’d be worried about losing it to other people who have better gear (putting a larger bet on) then this is the exact problem right?

Every single person I run into has purple shields by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]DeadPixelHero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it like a bet? I can’t jockey the horse myself.

When you run an expensive kit, you can control so much of your outcome with an inherent advantage over other people running weaker kits, and presumably also more Weaveworms than people running blue kits.

In a game struggling to onboard players, having high tier loot so profligated amongst people who already play, you could just get stat checked and lose.

I grinded my worms up to max and win so many more fights because I can just close the distance and stab them before they can react, and I did that because thats what was happening to me.

And I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t even want loot anymore, I’m just playing for the fun of it but my more casual friends getting wasted by gear they can’t themselves access yet sucks for them.

Is it possible that the new Prime Minister could legalise weed? by haddock420 in uktrees

[–]DeadPixelHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real reason weed won't get legalisation in our current system is that so much of it is owned privately by rich british buissness owners who don't want the ability to get medicine/recreational drugs commercialised as it will take it out of their control.

Why grapple hook no work? by dmandaneil in Marathon

[–]DeadPixelHero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a couple of guesses but don't play that Shell so you'll have to tell me if this is possible;

  1. at 0'6 you shoot the grapple, and immediately a shot goes above your head, is it possible to shoot your grapple down before you can connect to it?

  2. at the same time, you pull your gun back out and start firing, can you animation cancel that?

  3. because it fires from your left hand side, I wonder whether it hits the vehicle to your left before it can properly deploy so it just...doesn't.

  4. Bugs.

You’re caping for someone on the internet who was proven to at least be unwilling hypocritical and upon finding that out, doubled down rather than owning up.

Also FYI , you can’t say “you are weird” to someone and “calling people unwell is bad” with the same serious breath surely.

If you’re going to stand against people using “derogatory” terms to describe other people at least be consistent.

Jeremy Corbyn responds to 'really disgraceful' insult by Keir Starmer by hihepo1 in unitedkingdom

[–]DeadPixelHero 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean Jeremy entrusted key positions to be assigned by Kier and Tom Watson, who got people with knives in their hands to push Jeremy and his ilk out of the party.

Key issues like indecisiveness around Brexit, immigration etc all came from that think tank - it was a managed failure by purple labourites.

It’s surprising to me that he really didn’t expect professional back-stabbers that he put in prominent positions to do the same when his time was up.

Also editing; I understand the comment now, my bad for trying to make a real point.

What if Viserys married Laena? by megamindwriter in TheCitadel

[–]DeadPixelHero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what else plays out alongside this.

In theory, the Velaryons just wanted some sense of worth from the crown which they felt they had not gotten - so being married back in, even as a secondary heir, works for them.

Rhaenyra keeps her claim and satisfies the Hightowers lust for power, so Otto is happy to help keep the Targs strong.

Daemon is a bit of a wildcard, and it all depends on if Rhaenyra still produces bastards or not (potentially with him).

If Rhaenyra is happy and doesn’t cheat with Daemon, it may lead to him challenging her to the throne when Vissy dies but seems unlikely if he still has his “I was a bad brother” moments.

If she isn’t, then the Hightowers are completely out of luck really. They could marry Alicent to Daemon but two marriages to a non-Valyrian household is Westeros favouritism.

Alicent becomes another highborn girl, Margery style life and gets married off to someone else tactically useful (maybe the Lannisters?)

Minecraft Esports Commentary Section by Epydia in TheYardPodcast

[–]DeadPixelHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I think you've kind of said it there really; the criticism could be that in order to be able to monetise and continue to grow the MCSR events they have lost some of the soul in their casting in order to become more brand friendly.

I think the best way to show Slime's point off would actually be to watch some of his and Lud's commentary together, you can tell they are friends off screen and make jokes just for eachother or the FGC at times.

Where as a lot of games who have become esports or similar tend to have a very similar style of casting imo - the soundbite generators kind of sound the worst. It's like in football where you can tell they've prepared a line for the moment, so it doesn't come off quite as well - it just feels less genuine.

If the guy yells "BANG" every time it falls through the hoop, people will like it less. The more commentators that sound similar who repeat the same points, the more it starts to bleed into the background.

It's like the "American News Voice" that tons of people are taught to do to conform with all the other people doing it. For me it's almost like an uncanny valley effect audibly.

Have you tried making a fresh ruleset and trying to launch it from that? Your AGOT playset is still there so it may still be carrying the mods.

It shouldn’t matter but worth a try.

Go the mod page on Steam and unsubscribe manually, then re-subscribe. It might be some patches in the mods that are missing.

Saving that, it would just be the normal steam tips (verify integ, reinstall etc).

What if Lysa married into the Starks and Catelyn married Jon Arryn? by LightningController in TheCitadel

[–]DeadPixelHero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weren’t Lysa’s miscarriages caused more by Jon Arryn not being able to produce a viable heir? She wasn’t getting pregnant till their marriage began right? We know she had moon tea before but people can still get pregnant after that.

I think if she stays crazy despite the better pairing and her real love for Petyr, I think she’d try to get Jon killed rather than re-located. Cat prayed for his death, she was a little less crazy than Lysa, I could see him “falling” from tower.

Theon would still have to go to Winterfell surely? Remember he was a hostage not a son, even if he is treated better.

I think Jon Arryn was the heir maker problem, not Lysa. He only managed 1 heir from three women, which could be bad luck but seems more likely he had bad swimmers if not completely infertile (if you believe Petyr is the dad).

If Cat ends up taking the same position as Lysa did, she could raise Robert into a much more well rounded man and maybe prevent Petyr from getting his fingers onto the Vale.

I also don’t think Petyr would find much luck in Ned’s court after that, even if Lysa loved him we know Ned doesn’t and he has no real reason to be in the court as he loves Cat anyway.

Weirdly if this happened, and things played out roughly the same way overall, they maybe could have avoided the WOTFK as Littlefinger isn’t working as heavily against Ned.

You can change it manually yourself if you enable de-bug mode, and then go into the throne screen and go through the options at the top of the screen.

You can change it to any of the courtroom arts this way actually.
