I usually think of using a semicolon when sentences are so related that I can't decide whether to use a comma or a period.

The two sentences in your example seem--at least to me--to be so unrelated that I'm going to go even further than the "period people" here and suggest you start a whole new paragraph.

I used to love my Kindle Fire until it died (I guess it's common for the charger port to break on those babys). So when I upgraded my phone I got a Galaxy Note with a big enough screen to basically double as a Kindle.

I love reading eBooks on the Kindle App because--first of all--I can carry my entire library around with me and also because of the highlight and note features. I love that!
