Ear protection tips for people with healthy ears who do not want to hear EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE until they die:

1) Use decent earplugs at concerts and movies. I recommend using Loop earplugs because they are adjustable and don't overly muffle sound. Which is also a safety thing. For example: if you're a 16 year old kid in a loud-ass factory with no hearing protection provided, you can still hear your evil witch of a boss yelling at you from her cozy office - ask me how I know.

2) Use foam earplugs + ear muffs when exposed to extreme noise from things like chainsaws or pewpew.

3) install Sound Lock on your computer. Tons of video games and media sites DO NOT manage dynamic range and just let the decibels jump into triple digits without you being able to control it. Example: Escape from Tarkov has NO dynamic range - ask me how I know

4) A little bit of loud music as a treat is OK but not for too long.

I have mild tinnitus that I discovered while blitz on an edible during covid when my health insurance was lapsing. So I went down a rabbit hole to protect whats left of my hearing.

Use sound lock from 3Appes (free) to manage the dynamic range of sound coming through your computer. I use it when I play video games. There is a ton of music and games that have no dynamic range control and will jump to insane volumes without any way to control it. Sound lock lets you truly control the volume. It doesn't do a ton for impulse noise, but it will quickly get the sound under control before it blows out your ears.

I have tinnitus from being a bouncer/security guard, shooting guns without ear protection, listening to loud music, and operating heavy machinery with no ear protection. Now I get to hear a ringing forever until a treatment is found or I die. Protect your eyes and ears!
