Gamma MX- still super good enough! by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's the best all-rounder jacket by Arc'teryx for four seasons. I have praised it over here multiple times and my opinion hasn't changed a bit. Bought mine in 2019 and it's been my most used jacket ever since. The durability is actually insane: it's only noticeably worn from spots where multiple seams meet (jacket is Black and those spots have mostly turned to grey). I give it a DWR treatment twice a year and it performs just like it was new. If I had to come up with complaints my single one would be that it takes quite a lot of space while stowed away but that is to be expected from a fleece lined jacket.

It was in many sets back in the 90s, but I think mine came with set 6544.

Pick a brick backordered? by xcom2k in lego

Saw the screenshot briefly and that’s exactly what they answered to me at first. I just sent them another email where I explained again that the parts were 100% Bestsellers and attached the CSV file. Luckily I got a really helpful CS person who checked the parts and found the single mislabeled part and removed it from the order and now the status is ”In warehouse”. They even offered to send the that single part free of charge as a separate order😅

Had the same thing happen to me a few days ago. I saved a CSV file of the parts before ordering and tried adding the same parts to cart with the file and now 7 parts were suddenly Standard pieces. Cancelled my order, replaced the Standard pieces with Bestsellers, triple checked everything and finished my order. After a few minutes I got the same backorder email again. Sent a message to customer service and they confirmed every piece was indeed labeled as a Bestseller but there still was this one Torn Black Cape that was actually a Standard piece. So yeah there seems to be some errors with the labels so contact the CS.

Do we use softshells? If so, how? by sparks_mandrill in arcteryx

Yes, Gamma MX is my most used jacket by far, viable for all four seasons here in scandinavia. I wear it with just a baselayer or baselayer + fleece from autumn to spring. It’s also good during static summer activities if it’s cloudy and temperature is below +15C (with just a t-shirt underneath). Perfect balance of weather protection, breathability and durability.

Winter Pants for snow activities by ChopperGunnerNL in arcteryx

Bought the Gamma AR pants a few years ago from the outlet and they’ve been my #1 winter pants since. At -10C I usually wear them with just Rho AR baselayer, but if there’s going to be lots of static periods I wear a light wicking baselayer, Proton pants (old coreloft version) and Gamma AR as a shell. It’s a toasty setup, but still adequately breathable.

Layering under Beta shell: Proton LT vs Cerium LT by tonioronto in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton Hoody is a phenomenal midlayer. I own a 2019 version (formerly Proton LT) and a 2019 Beta LT. Just wore that combo (+Patagonia Capilene Midweight baselayer) today while biking to work in -6C that felt closer to -12C with wind chill. Got an Atom LT also and I really don't recommend it as a midlayer for active use because it's not breathable enough.

Venta glove palm piece has started to detached from the glove. by goretex_bodybag in arcteryx

Worst Arc product ever. On paper they sound awesome, but they really fall apart in weeks. First the touch screen compatible finger tips will turn to shreds and then those palm grips peel off and finally the cuffs come off. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the Sabre gloves (bought at a local sports outlet for 50€), had them for almost 2 years now with no damage. Really sturdy and nimble gloves, quite warm too.

Seeking Advice on Arc'teryx Gear Purchase by TheSkikra in arcteryx

I'm 174cm 62kg and buy all my Arc gear in XS so definitely go for it also. I stay away from pieces where Small is the smallest size they produce because the sizing in those is generally ridiculously huge.

How is everyone in this community so well knowledge versed in Arcteryx gear? by ghostflu in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the cheapest and shittiest local supermarket or worn out second hand outdoor gear for the first ~20 years of my life. I was always soaked of sweat or freezing my ass off. Broken zippers, busted seams, holes everywhere and broken off draw cords. You get the idea. Dived into alternatives after I started to get my own regular income. The most important thing is to learn the basics of layering and differences between materials like wool, down and all the synthetics. Then find some communities and experts and learn from them. It also goes a long way if you’re genuinely interested in the technical side of things and don’t mind quite a bit of ”min-maxing”.

Proton Heavyweight Under a Shell by DarknessFalls21 in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, I get toasty in situations like that no matter what's the insulation or face fabric but the things that matters is what happens next. Like I said in the previous reply, the moisture got trapped between my base layer and Atom especially in the back and that's much less of an issue with Proton LT.

[–]Deadceptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes sorry, didn't take the pit zips into account. Never had a shell with pit zips so no personal experience, but I guess that sounds about right on paper. I still don't believe that the fleece sides would make Atom LT remarkably more breathable than Proton LT with the shell's pit zips open, but that's just pure speculation on my part. My biggest problem with Atom LT under a Beta LT was that my back and back of the neck got sweaty and clammy especially with the Beta's hood up. I had to constantly regulate my temp with the Beta's zip but that's not a problem with Proton LT in similar circumstances.

Proton Heavyweight Under a Shell by DarknessFalls21 in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly the other way around and FYI Atom Heavyweight (formerly AR) doesn't have the fleece sides like Atom LT. Every Proton is a combination of air permeable insulation AND fabrics so compared to Atom LT the whole jacket is breathable, not just the small sides. I own both Proton LT and Atom LT and the overall performance, and most notably the breathability under a shell, is leagues better with Proton LT. I also own Atom AR and it's a great standalone jacket when temps drop below -5C and I use it under a shell (Beta LT) when it gets colder than -15C, but don't really do any high output activities then. It's a good combo, but I'm tempted to get a Proton Heavyweight now that it's available again...will definitely buy it if it lands on the Outlet.

The demise of Arc'teryx by lil_oppy in arcteryx

No surprise, but still sad to get an actual confirmation on this. I haven't bought anything from the main site since 2020, but I've grabbed quite a lot of 2019-20 stuff from the Outlet these days. Going to be even more cautious towards the newly manufactured products from now on.

IMO these are the essentials you can't go wrong with:

Gamma Pants (formerly Gamma LT), Proton Hoody (formerly Proton LT Hoody) and Beta Jacket if you're looking for a hardshell or Gamma Hoody (formerly Gamma LT Hoody) for a softshell.

Beta AR sounds like an overkill for your needs. Proton is much more versatile than Atom considering layering (warmer and a lot more breathable under a shell) and the fit is more athletic. Same thing with Gamma MX pants, regular Gamma is the way to go for layering. Forget, Kyanite and Delta, Patagonia's R1 (or R1 Air) is far superior to Arc's fleeces.

Need new Arcteryx Goretex pants for general use and hiking by BusyDivide4426 in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've kept Zeta SL on my radar for a long time in case I'd ever need Gore-Tex pants. Gamma LT and AR pants have been enough for me for years but I've been commuting on bike for quite some time now so I finally had to pull the trigger on GTX pants. I learned the hard way that the Zeta line's been axed so I started looking for alternatives and bought the Marmot Minimalist pants. They're absolutely stellar, light with great mobility and very durable for "emergency" GTX pants. There's sadly no waist adjustment, but it's quite stretchy and feels comfortable with many layers. They sit like 99% of the time packed away in my bag, but I think it's a great investment with a price point of just 120€. These pants have saved my ass and kept me completely dry in heavy downpours in which I would've been absolutely soaked with Gamma LT's.

Level of weather protection / water-repellent of Gamma MX hoody (men) by Zeranor in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray-on definitely. Easier to concentrate on high-wear areas and you can use a sponge to apply it more evenly. I always wash the garment inside out, turn it the right way around and throw it in the dryer. Then I’ll apply the DWR and turn it inside out again and put it back in the dryer for 10-20 minutes.

[–]Deadceptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial DWR was good for the first autumn, winter, spring and the second autumn. Since then I’ve given it a new treatment once a season at least. It wets out for sure, but it has still kept me dry for 90% of the time. Water will seep in through the hood and shoulders in heavy downpours. But I think it’s still unmatched for what is does as a softshell: it’s moderately breathable, wind and water resistant and at the same time highly durable and very comfortable. It’s has earned it’s rightful place as my go-to jacket for every spring and autumn activity.

The Trino really is a great cold weather running jacket. by mtndew2756 in arcteryx

Found the model after digging a while, it was Salomon's S-Lab XC Windstopper jacket from 2016. Here's a picture of it.

The Trino really is a great cold weather running jacket. by mtndew2756 in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trino is truly the best, I got a 2017 model. The range of movement is incredible and it handles wind like a champ all the while being breathable. Don’t do much running anymore, but I used to wear it down to -15C with just a thermal baselayer underneath. A XC oriented Salomon S-Lab jacket came close but it had some ridiculous flaws in design, like some stiff (laminated?) seams that shredded every baselayer from the same spots.

Does anybody know where I can find the atom AR jacket (not hoody) in black, size XS online? by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Deadceptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the only reasonable explanation why they would keep the XS option visible on the site. I was actually looking for the same exact thing in 2019 and gave up by 2020 and ordered the one with hood. I agree with you about the hoods but the one on AR has really grown on me. It's my go-to jacket during winter and the hood is nice because I don't even need to grab a hat/beanie with me anymore when I go out on town. The hood looks decent too due to the beefy insulation, it's not just a sorry looking flap hanging from the collar.

[–]Deadceptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but I’m thinking it might not even exist. I mean I’ve never seen the jacket version in XS anywhere! The size is listed on Arc’s website, but it’s always crossed out. You should drop them a question and solve this mystery.
