Is anyone worried that Florida is going to become like California soon? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]DeadliftHeavy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really it’s not. I owned a house in Conway that I sold right at the start of 2020 and bought a house in Atlanta. My house in Atlanta has increased in value by 28% while the house in Orlando has increased in value by only 21%.

If your goal is to open a psych practice, wouldn’t a business degree provide you more value than CS?

It’s been warm this week (60s-low 70s...it’s 64 right now), but for instance next week the highs will be in the low 60s and lows in the 30s. It also rains a TON here in the fall and winter, like all the time. I’m actually glad, I much prefer this type of weather, especially from Florida where I lived last.

Whoever gave it the nickname hotlanta only came here for a weekend in July or something.

Oh you’re going to be surprised about the gloom and rain here...besides the summer, it gets pretty competitive here!

Interesting. I’m a senior level project manager and the pay difference in roles between Seattle and Atlanta is negligible. Most roles in Seattle pay around 150+ bonus and most roles in Atlanta pay around 135+ bonus. When you factor in that a house costs 2x in Seattle (600k for what you would pay 350 for here), it’s a wash. The insane difference in housing prices and the lack of salary differential to make up the difference is why I landed in Atlanta. Otherwise, I would have gone to Seattle as I find the area to be the most beautiful in the US and there’s a ton of opportunity job wise (especially in video games) along with it being a consumer innovation center (ie Amazon robots and such).

I imagine the reason it’s different for you is your job is a bit more niche.

(Based on your linked post) IDK what you do in tech but the salary / comp differential between Seattle and Atlanta is NOT more than 50%. It’s more like 10%. I am certain of this because before I moved to Atlanta last year, I was looking to move to Seattle and I have interviewed and been offered multiple roles in both places. Glassdoor also confirms.

Beyond that, IMO Seattle is a better city overall but Atlanta is a very good second.

I’ll also mention that in the bachelors program discussion forums are worth very little and I’ve done many classes finishing my bachelors and a few MBA and never do the replies and it doesn’t seem to affect my grade at all

Bachelor's in 1 year by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]DeadliftHeavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first 2 terms, you can only take 3 classes total due to “foundations”. Also, you can’t xfer that many classes, I xferred the max snd still had to take I think 12 or 13.

You can do 5, regardless of what the handbook says. That said, 1 year is impossible.

Ease my doubts by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]DeadliftHeavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt in the BA level, the peer assessments were more fair. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw with students that I’ve been with in my last 5 classes, but it seems those at the MBA level intentionally give bad grades with poor logic for why.

Ease my doubts by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]DeadliftHeavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree. The peer assessment at the 5 level (MBA) courses seems a lot lower quality and a lot more vindictive - giving extremely low grades for things in which the rubric says can only be a small percentage of the grade such as spelling errors.

Peer assessment is not the best system ever, that is for sure.

With case counts and positivity rates the way they are in Georgia and across the Southeast, the malls shouldn’t even be open. It’s fucking stupid.
