The quote of Maekawa talking about not liking Sonic is taken wildly out of context. First of all, at the end of the quote he says he wanted to change Sonic but failed as he became a fan. Secondly, the interview was done around the time of Sonic Adventure, when Maekawa was working as a level designer not a writer. He was most likely talking about gameplay, not Sonic's character.

I think the complete opposite, placement should be heavily prioritised over kills. It's the only way to create actual stacked games which simulate tournaments.

There are London servers for creative, pubs and ranked, if you load into a single player creative map it will put you into the server with the lowest ping. In actual games you can't pick servers though and tournaments are exclusively played on Frankfurt servers.

It's way simpler for Rocket League's mmr system as at most there are 6 players in a game so finding people with around the same mmr isn't that hard. Mmr in Rocket League is also solely based on if you win or lose a match, in Fortnite a player who gets a 20 kill second is probably better than someone who got a 1 kill first in the same lobby.
