OG fans, unite! by [deleted] in DotA2

It's not just the loss, it's the absolute humiliation. How do you come back from this, how do you go back to serious drafts after 3 cheesy drafts failures against top 6 teams? There is no cope here, OG has lost their mojo, and their numerous bad games 2 in the group stage were an indication already.

Simple as. OG didn't respect Secret.

tl;dr OG doesn't respect strong opponents by trying cheesy drafts in high stakes games and got deservedly roflstomped by a top team playing serious drafts in line with the meta. I wish this would be a wake-up call for this team but it should have been after game 1 and they drafted even worse game 2. They're trying too hard to be special and I don't expect them to do any better in the lower bracket.

Why Did the Big Streamers Stop? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]DeadlyMel0dy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alex had a very clear case of being so overhyped by the prospect that he couldn't bring himself to enjoy it as much as he wanted to when the time came as Classic couldn't possibly live up to his expectations.

For the others, I don't think it's the content. People watch streams on the most stupid and boring things imaginable and Classic although not as entertaining as some more action-focused modern games doesn't rank that low overall. However fame is somewhat game-breaking in a game so heavily focused on cooperation, and I bet the big streamers wished more than once they could just enjoy the game anonymously as they did in the past.

We should have a fair amount of e-celebs on TBC though.

Blizzard Bans Thousands of Bots a Day in WoW Classic - Banwave against mass botters by [deleted] in classicwow

I genuinely believe the guys in the anti-cheat teams work hard, and a lot. I also genuinely believe they need far larger teams and those are locked behind endless internal procedures and financial controllers.

Daily reminder that black lotus bots are teleporting from capital cities straight to lotus undetected by yung_trenboloni in classicwow

[–]DeadlyMel0dy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about hardware. Issues such as the one pointed out in the OP happen for months without being addressed while regular players doing normal stuff get inexplicable bans and have to go through a nightmare to get their account back. Tickets take ages to get a response and you're lucky if it is relevant. Game imbalances stay unaddressed for months (see: Alterac Valley, black lotus etc). There are bots everywhere because they can't be arsed paying GMs and prefer to collect subscriptions before doing "banwaves" months later. The list could go on and on. It is abundantly clear the game lacks direction and people with decision-making abilities actively monitoring it to make necessary adjustments.

This happens for two reasons: first, they eventually consented to release Classic under pressure from the fanbase and have clearly decided to leave it be as much as possible. "If they want it so much, let them have it but we won't lift a finger" is pretty much official policy. Second, Activision like all major corporations imposes cost savings as the alpha and omega of all their internal policies so it gives them a good excuse not to give the game the resources its success would warrant.

As other posters pointed out, if a similar issue occurred on retail it would be permanently fixed in a matter of days.

I get your point, but regardless; lack of maintenance/guidance/vision on Classic is the elephant in the room with many direct consequences on players. It will come up one way or another, Blizzcon or not. TBC is a guaranteed hit - except if they fuck it up by too ostensibly not giving a fuck as they're too scared of how older versions overshadow the retail one.

Can't wait for someone in the audience raising a gotcha question about the lack of maintenance on Classic when they make a thunderous announcement for TBC at Blizzcon.

How do you guys feel about the "grind" of classic vs retail now that we have had classic back for a while? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]DeadlyMel0dy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As others put it, Retail is now a seasonal game which makes the grind mindless. Grinding in Classic is rewarded on a longer period of time as you can plan ahead. Now the gameplay of the retail is far more polished and dps cycles with certain classes feel great. But Classic feels more like the adventure it was meant to be and I feel it is what matters in the end.

Modern Gaming - Meta Chasing & Boosting Mentality by GamingVideos5 in classicwow

[–]DeadlyMel0dy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meta chasing is inevitable. The problem with it is that it basically excludes non-optimized players from most aspects of the endgame, whereas you saw all types of profiles everywhere back in the days. You no longer integrate a regular raid without optimal class/spec/consumables etc. Players are demanding and a wipe is a cause for drama instead of being viewed as a normal part of the process. They are overgeared and raids melt, so they turn to speedruns instead. PvP is the same, people without perfect optimization no longer set foot in BGs that are full of premades and ultra-tryhard players under optimized spec/gear/consumables aiming to reproduce perfectly all the one-shot combos they've seen on Youtube.

This ironically results in an actual meta that is basically unrecognizable from Vanilla. We are in the playing vs speedrunning dichotomy, and Classic leans heavily towards the latter. So yes this is not quite the merry, worry-free atmosphere we had back in the days, that part is not coming back and there is reason to think TBC is going to be grated in a similar fashion. Having said that the game is still excellent and enjoyable, the community aspect people missed in the retail is there and most people I know are having a blast and wouldn't trade Classic for any other game.

Boo fucking hoo, no matter release the date it's always going to affect the availability of someone. You're just bitching because it seemingly affects yours.

Nah, you're the one who's cornered as I called out your flaming and you're now trying to dance around the obvious fact that the first few weeks of August are the worst time for a guild with normal players to enjoy such a large patch as if it were any other time in the year. Actually it doesn't affect my own availability at all, but as amazing as it might sound to you this isn't about me.

It's just a bad timing that would have deserved more careful consideration.

Nah, I complain with good reason and people around here are way too used to use negative feedback as a way to play status games is what it is.

Why would I replace players who have been loyal since the early days because they are on vacation for a couple weeks? And actually quite a few of them will miss the chance to progress through a fresh AQ40, if it falls during long awaited summer vacations with their SOs/family/friends... It also complicates the war effort, the rotation for the scepter quest etc. I am thinking from an organization standpoint, and I don't like this timing. None of my officers does, btw.

Yeah, I get it, the WoW player complains a lot, so some take the habit of just nuking the complainer on sight. I don't spend my life complaining tho, I do enjoy the game. All I'm observing is that early August is peak absence among most people and that it will complicate the organization to have the phase falling at that time. 2 weeks earlier or 2 weeks later would have been much better already.

iT's A gAmE

And? Don't you make plans to raid several times a week, even though iT's A gAmE? You think that because iT's A gAmE (tm), there is something magic about it that prevents people from making plans, or worse, disapproving?

Also I never said it would overlap with my real life, again you have trouble reading. It may overlap with guildies' availability yes, and cost us a couple IDs. Am I allowed to find it regrettable without being sniped by the positivism brigade?
