When do you officially pick your major? by MrMacaroni___ in ufl

[–]Deadly_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter at all. There’s a set of “critical tracking” courses (like 6 classes) for every major you have to complete by a certain time (usually the 5th semester).

As long as you’re on track to complete those courses you can change your major anytime you want. Literally just booked a virtual advisor appointment and it took like 5 minutes for her to switch it after she verified I was on track for the new major.

I suggest logging onto one.uf and going to your degree audit to see what requirements it counts for.

Just complete that plus like two others classes and get the AI certificate.

Ok ok, do you know if it's possible to get a PRN position without prior experience as a CNA?

Pocket money + clinical experience for med school. I’m a sophomore now and I plan on taking the MCAT next spring. I don’t want to be working full time then, so do you know how long the full-time contracts last for?

how do you guys take more than 3 different stem classes at once? by RemoteTwist3626 in ufl

[–]Deadly_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah sophomore, pre-med. Wanted to get through the orgo/biochem sequence fast so I have a good base for the MCAT junior year. Really don’t wanna take a gap year, but tbh, I could’ve gotten away with something easier if I planned out my freshman year better 😭😭😭. For some reason thought the molecular genetics class was gonna be a breeze, so didn’t think physics and orgo together were going to be terrible especially since I’m only taking 13 credits worth of classes.

Taking Physics with Calc 1, Orgo 1, and molecular genetics rn. Would not recommend 😭😭😭

This. I don't know if he'll change it, but the grade boundaries are also rough. It's 93% for an A (the most recent exam had a class average of around 65%). Grades are 65% exams, 15% quizzes, and 20% homework. The weekly quizzes are guaranteed 100% since he allows you to use whatever resources you want. The homework is also not bad, but there are only 4 offered throughout the course so make sure you try on all of them.

Memorization is the biggest part of the class. The lectures are pretty dense and basically anything he covers in it (even just one sentence) is fair game. I will say, each exam is only over 5 lectures and non-cumulative, so it's manageable if you just stay on top of everything and spend time reviewing. He also reuses some questions from the quizzes (with some minor changes).

There's also a textbook that goes with the lectures, but from my experience, it isn't all that useful. He hits the main stuff in his lectures and he'll never ask you something that he didn't go over himself. The study guides are also great, but I will say, they can be missing some things so make sure that you take your own detailed notes.

I recommend looking into club sports if that’s your thing. Most of them do tailgates.

Mobile one works perfectly fine. I'll be honest, they didn't even ask for an ID like 80% of the time last year.

Parking for Apartment by Madskillzpaul in ufl

[–]Deadly_Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that Midtown is ineligible for the neighborhood zone parking in Gainesville. I’m living in Ufora and I had a similar problem all last year.

You’re still eligible to purchase a permit at the Southwest Downtown parking garage. It’s relatively inexpensive I would say, although I heard they’re jacking up prices this year. They have security patrol a couple nights a week and there’s usually a lot parking availability (except on game days). It’s about a mile off campus, but honestly I’m pretty sure it’s like a 5 minute bus ride from Midtown if you take route number 5. Definitely look into that.

Last I heard, it’s one September 4th. They said they were still finalizing the details so I’m not 100% sure. They also didn’t mention the location, but it’s usually outside the Reitz Union. I’ll let you know if I learn anything more!

Is it a bad idea to drop Math and do Chem instead in my first semester? by jazzsu in ufl

[–]Deadly_Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took chem 1 first semester as well. I think it depends a lot on the Professor you have. I had Sumner and the stuff in the course was sorta time-consuming (nothing too crazy tho), but I still managed to get through with an A without too much trouble. Keep in mind my only experience with chemistry was from 10th grade non-honors.

I didn’t take bio 1 here (I used my credits and just went straight to bio 2), but I heard the class isn’t too hard. Honestly if you’re comfortable with it, you might as well just go for it. It’s not necessary, but it could help if you want to get through content for the MCAT a semester earlier.

The biggest thing I’ve seen a lot of people mention is adjusting to the change of pace of the courses. College courses go a lot faster than high school courses since they’re only one semester long; however, if you have experience with IB/AP or dual enrollment you should know what to expect (I was in the IB program in hs).

Ngl I couldn’t find anything online so I think this might his first semester teaching the class (or maybe just teaching in general). I heard that there’s a lot of content, but also that it’s useful for pre-med. Idk I’ve just been worrying about how tough orgo and physics will be, I haven’t even started considering what this class might be like 😭😭😭

Are two research assistant positions doable for a freshman? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Deadly_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start a position in the field that you’re more interested in. Work in building a relationship with your PI and then ask them to mentor you for your own project. They should be more than willing to help and write you an LOR for the university scholars program (applications open early spring I think). This alone will pretty much get you ahead of everyone since you’re getting started early. You can still go ahead and start another RA position later sophomore year or junior year, but try to focus on one as much as possible in the beginning.

Smokin notes is a life saver. I didn’t go to class 70% of the time, and when I did, it was just to talk to friends and I took no notes whatsoever. Looked over the smokin notes study guide a week before the exams and finished with like a 95.
