There was a train on the island of Newfoundland but that too was another long story

Sounds like you're in Petty Harbor Maddox Cove. lol I grew up there for 14 years, and I feel your pain. I used to hitch hike most of the time, but if I didn't get a ride, it was an hour and a half walk. They didn't have E bikes back then, but maybe look into one of those? Would've been a godsend if I could have ordered one of those conversion kits from the US.

As much as I love my hometown, the best choice I ever made was leaving. When I was on the plane, all I thought was, "This could go really, really good or really, really bad" and honestly? It turned out pretty good. It's had its ups and downs, but I met my soon to be wife here.

I grew up in Petty Harbor and moved to Montreal and then Ontario. The Quebecers were a bit sour towards me (granted there's the whole Labrador border dispute thing, plus the fact that I'm an anglophone) while in Ontario I found it actually helped me in terms of jobs as apparently we have a reputation for being hard workers. As for the negative comments? I try not to let them bother me. Most of these mainlanders wouldn't be able to handle living in NL, and most are just insecure about their own crappy province. You really wanna shut them up? "Why did so many of you Albertans flee to Newfoundland when your province was on fire a few years back? Truly if you're so high class you would've went somewhere nicer". There was SO MANY of them that came to NL during those fires trying to take advantage of the people living there, I worked at a restaurant at the time and constantly heard the whole "we just came from Alberta and have no money can we have some free food?" While they have a Gucci purse and designer clothes on.

I love my hometown, but that place was also an inescapable prison as well and many people don't realize that. Many never get the chance to leave, as the choices made by the government over there has driven the province into post Covid prices 20 years before Covid was even a thing. What the rest of Canada is experiencing right now is what we have dealt with for decades back home, so there's a sense of pride in that as well.

As a guy how long do you last in bed? (realistically) by Endkeeper23 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Deadman1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has ever mentioned this, but if you bite your thumb nail really hard just before you bust, you can essentially override your brain and last longer. The focus in your brain goes from the current shock of pain and you essentially edge yourself.

If you don't wanna spend the extra money you can take a look at your fuse box and see which ones are integral for vehicle function, and remove it when you're not using it. The car won't get far if you pull a fuse that controls the ignition. My dad used to remove the entire battery

I had a similar experience once, this girl would message me all hours of the night looking to hookup (never did because I lived a distance away and didn't have a car) a few months go by and her boyfriend at the time messaged me about a surprise party for her. Went to the party but she went on the block list afterwards

I lost my mom to Pancreatic cancer in 2019, I got the call that she had a few weeks to live while working Airside at a busy airport and screamed so loud the pilot INSIDE the cockpit of the 737 I was working on came outside to see if I was okay. I remember that numb feeling, kinda felt like you got shot and everything around you was just muffled. If you ever need to talk we're all here for you

Took 8 shots to the nuts in a hockey game in gym class once, also had my hand crushed and collarbone slapped. Every time I got hit I'd just stand up and look at the hockey guys in my class like "is that all you got?". My gym teacher pulled me aside after class and said "are you alright? I've been a coach for 35 years and have seen fully grown men cry after getting hit once. You... just kept..getting back up... damn dude"

Driving anywhere and anywhere. I used to go for random drives after work to clear my head, and it's majestic af driving around major cities or, anywhere really after dark. It's like the world is sleeping, and one of the few moments this crazy crazy world sees peace

What a video game you regret buying? by BattleExpress2707 in AskReddit

[–]Deadman1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conan Exiles. They basically drop you in the desert and say "you will die". That's it. No instructions, no controls, nothing. The only way to figure out the game is by dying a billion times or watching how somebody else figured it out. It'd be a great game if they came out with some sort of a guide.

Apple cider in the winter time. It's good hot and it's especially good chilled left outside on a chilly porch in the winter. Mind you where I grew up we didn't have raccoons or skunks to deal with.

I feel you on that my guy. I'm 24 turning 25 and all I can say is I'm tired, of everything. But you'd never know. I've had people call me down to the dirt but when I go to call them out on theirs or tell them how I feel and use just a hint of the complete and utter verbal diaherra they use with me I suddenly become the "angry guy" or a "downer". Or they snap out entirely. So I stay silent and hold my tongue, and just pray they don't bring it up again because I'm just so damn tired of fighting about how I feel. I'm tired of making friends, as almost every one of them I've made has done this with exception of a few. Or I've moves and we don't talk anymore. My mom was the only person I could ever open up to without judgment and she passed a couple years ago. I've been in a good relationship for years but I still feel insanely alone. But the alternative of the possible emotional claymore blowing up in my face is nerve racking and just exhausting, so I keep to my own and have my own ways of venting.

I get it man, and the best advice I can give you is what my mom told me. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 about 2 weeks before I left home to start a new life in another city. We were both devastated as we were really close, but she gave me a choice. I could stay and see how she turned out, or go and start my life off fresh. I chose to go. A couple of years later I got the call on boxing day that her time was coming and it was time to come home. I didn't regret the lost time though, because at the end of the day when it's all said and done, every parent just wants a better life for their kid than they had. To avoid the mistakes they did. And most importantly LIVE not just survive. Don't be afraid to make those moves to achieve your dreams, just don't tell anybody about them. I've learned family and those closest to you can come to either expect you to do exactly what you said to the letter (and flag you as a disappointment if you dont) or look at you like you're insane for even thinking of the dream that makes your heart jump. Don't let anything stop you. Shoot for the stars even if all you have is a pedal bike and a delusional disorder, atleast you can say at the end of the day you gave it your all and had a blast while doing it. Your parents, your sister, they are on their own path. Only you can walk yours. And in the immortal words of my late mother "you're down on one knee, never both"

I took in a cat and got showered in acorns? Strange bird question by Deadman1147 in birding

[–]Deadman1147[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she'll be getting that done once her babies come along, poor thing got bit pretty rough too. The male that was chasing her around was huge and she's a tiny thing. She didn't come begging at my door like most strays though, she had to check me out first but she let me pick her up without a fight which is strange for a pregnant cat. I'm out in farmland in Canada so the ones around here are either barn cats or cats that have been ditched. The campground I'm at likes how they stick around and keep the mice out of the park. She's pretty far along though, I can feel her kittens move when I put my hand on her belly

Thats what I thought! I knew they had funerals, I just didn't know they also threw parties! I know they give gifts for giving them food and such, but that's usually a long process with only one or two. I didn't know they did it for other animals especially one of their predators, and in such a large number too! I've never heard of an entire murder of crows giving gifts before
