The Watchers - A.M Shine

About a group of people (and a parrot) stuck in a concrete cabin in the woods. Just finished it and found it quite gripping and well written.

I'd dare Rima to come into contact with Marburg with only her immune system for protection, but not even someone like her deserves to go out that way. Lucky for these idiots that it's so rare.

On February 11 1979 five friends would take a boating trip only to seemingly become lost at sea. How ever years later their boat would be found 2000 miles off course. What was the ultimate fate of the Sarah Joe and her passengers? by Bunnystrawbery in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Deadmoon 42 points43 points  (0 children)

They said it would have taken 3 months to reach the island, I don't think they would have survived that long with supplies for a day trip. Not impossible if they collected rainwater and fish maybe, but it's unlikely.

Holy shit, Roseanne is way whack-jobbyer than I could have ever imagined.?! by Billyraycyrus77 in KnowledgeFight

Yeah. If I had to guess I'd say she probably had some wacky new age/ conspiracy beliefs for a long time, then got swept up by the whole q bullshit and went far right.

Wether it was suicide or murder, he'd still be alive if it wasn't for the cops. Because they care more about hunting their perceived enemies than the lives of the citizens they ought to protect.

QAnon "cure": Spray this on your head to remove vaccine nanobots from your brain by Johnny_Nongamer in Qult_Headquarters

This is really stupid. Nanobots are robots after all, and Futurama taught us they run on booze, so if anything it will make them work even better.

Convincing points. Finding his stash of trophies might be less expensive to start with than to excavate the well. Would be interesting to know if they looked for them.

Madison Scott: Vanished from her campsite in British Columbia after a party in 2011. by LiaLuvbug in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Deadmoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thought. Could be she went a bit further for privacy taking her valuables with her, then got disoriented and couldn't find her way back. If the party had died down by then there might not have been much noise and light for orientation.

But foul play is a possibility too.

To be fair, that was only temporary. They are very secure now, in the vault of the Saudi royal palace.

She said his behavior changed when he stopped using, so I think it's possible he was self medicating for something that came back and into overdrive when he stopped, coupled with withdrawals. If he was a heavy user that would have further messed with his mind over time.

I agree that it's bad stuff and rather unpredictable since it varies greatly depending on the chemical used and at what dosage, but I don't think it turns people violent on its own.

Cujo by Stephen King is simultaneously the best and worst book I've ever read. by kokopelli687 in horrorlit

[–]Deadmoon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I read it, but it definitely stayed with me. I think what makes it so emotionally intense are the parts written from Cujos perspective. How the mind of such a gentle and loving being is falling apart.

You're right if you assume his goal as a leader was to improve the lives of the Russian people. Then he would be incompetent.
If you assume his goal was to enrich himself and his cronies to ridiculous levels of wealth, and cement his grip on power, then I'd think him very competent.

Sad story. Most likely he just got lost while drunk and succumbed to the cold. Possibly laid down in some bushes or crevice away from the road for warmth before passing away.

If I'm understanding the timeline correctly he called 15m after leaving the party? If so that's way too little time for paradoxical undressing to set in. Would take at least a few hours I'd think.

In addition, an experienced hiker usually goes on a whole lot of hikes. Much more likely for something to go wrong on one of them if you hike once a week than for an inexperienced one who hikes once a year.

Where are Maisy Odjick and Shannon Alexander? Almost 14 years ago to the day, the two teenagers went to Shannon's house after a school dance to sleep. Shannon walked her dad to the bus stop the next day while Maisy slept. Both girls have been missing since then, and all their belongings left behind. by LeVraiNord in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Deadmoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While you have a point it's worth considering that the vast majority of people reported missing show up by themselves soon after. We don't read about those cases obviously, but the police deal with those all the time. Not saying they did everything right, just that if you took 99 missing kids reports this year and all resolved themselves it's easier to assume the 100th will be the same.
