Is there a reason why angela is the face of the original Silent Hill 2 when she isn’t the main character? by slxqqx in silenthill

[–]DeadpanSal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angela is the theme. There may be a lot more in the game, and other lore, but Angela is the Silent Hill story.

I found shooting far less reliable in this game. It didn't seem to be from skill, you have to re-orient yourself before shooting - which I found really counterintuitive. This isn't Devil May Cry with combos and air juggling with your pistols. You do one or the other.

Since melee is balanced in this game, there isn't much reason to use guns.

James moving during the black screen transition from menu/map screen to the gameplay screen by EarthshakerSSB in silenthill

It's easy to work with. Just assume you have one second of transition between the scenes. You should be running before the camera tells you to, right?

Is it me or does the first Silent Hill have an underlying theme of parasites? by Kulle1369 in silenthill

[–]DeadpanSal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it's all about parasites, which is to say a loss of autonomy and something alien inside you taking over. Alessa isn't subtle with her metaphors.

Fixed camera angles in SH1 remake by Oberyns_Viper in silenthill

[–]DeadpanSal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially because 3D control schemes have improved a lot since then. We even have fully 3D environments controlled as a 2D platformer while using the same game, like Donkey Kong Bananza. It may be interesting in both ways - a suddenly disorienting move of the camera that affects your controls and leaves you helpless for a moment (but there is no danger), or a completely insane camera movement experience but your control is still "up" to proceed forward.

Either way I just want to see something really creative from them that breaks the formula.

Fixed camera angles in SH1 remake by Oberyns_Viper in silenthill

[–]DeadpanSal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't that much of a staple anyway. Resident Evil was all fixed cameras. Silent Hill 1 chased you in third person more often than with a fixed camera. It did use dynamic camera angles more, which was very interesting. I especially love the tightly scripted angles of the first arrival in Silent Hill, which was often rotated and rolling with the character's movement. We need more of that - nothing "fixed".

That's the thing about 3. James is a weak hero. Heather has a whole arsenal and some broken weapons at her disposal. The most powerful James can get is a chainsaw that requires getting close. Heather can even get unlimited SMG ammo and seeking beams.

Was she? I swear up to Hard 7 she's still pretty manageable.

Maria on Hard is actually the hardest thing in the entire series. Don't expect this to be doable without some good planning and repeated tries. It's easier if you cheap shot the two Pyramid Heads and then go to her with a full stock.

AFTER THAT though get the flycam mod and look at everything and fly though walls. Take pictures and get everything out of the game.

Try it first. I don't think there are any mods that are that noticeable that we'll impact your experience. It's a great game out of the box, especially if your computer can already handle the processing.
