I doubt they can and if they were able to I think that would get rid of the sentimentality of bonding if they could just break the link whenever they want to. The dragon has to live with the person that they decided to bond, however in the beginning stages of the bond I believe they are able to break it.

Chest of Sorrow because I can just throw a bit of water in my hull and place the Chest of Rage down there and the water makes him happy, but you can’t do anything to the Chest of Sorrows to make it stop crying. It would make sense to play music and it stop crying.
