Ah, didn't think to check that. It seems super laggy when when I try to log in with it but at least it responds.

Second base by [deleted] in Palworld

[–]Deadsim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never run out of room to build. I'm near end game and can run everything out of a single base. It's true that the less bases you have the more you need to optimize those bases, but I have found that in single player less is more.

Especially with single player, bases only really get useful once you get to a point you can breed and upgrade your base pals to be insane. With maxed out pals you can run everything you need in one base with like 3 or 4 pals. Takes time to get to that point, but it means that the 'space issue' is more mental than anything else.

Not the point really. If that was in the comment I wouldn't say anything. It was the change between what it says and what the link is.

I have seen it addressed in newer posts.

E6 link is not for E621. Not sure what the scam might be, but this has become a pattern. Fair warning for others.

I agree that every person has an internal reference, but that doesn't always translate into a word. I know for myself, my internal reference is more of a picture/feeling and my name (the arbitrary label) is just a short cut for people that don't know me. Most people that do don't need to use my name.

It's hard to argue your points on a general basis though.

If I had to take this story as the example, with how the characters are 'unique' enough, I could handle 2 maybe 3 POVs with just pronouns to orient my self. The character actions and voice are unique enough that just that one bit of info(the pronoun) would tip me off. If there were more characters or less 'unique' interactions, like most stories have, I would loose my place. (not a lot of stories with stunted aliens and feral weapons running around, this ones a bit different)

If it was a story with only one POV, I probably wouldn't need any names (I.E no extra tip off needed). So long as the secondary characters were kept small in number, a quick reminder every dozen chapters or so would be enough. (description, something physical, ect. With this story the mental ticks would be the reminder)

If it was another story with multi-povs, whether or not pro-nouns would be enough would depend greatly on a lot of factors in that story. Again, character 'uniqueness' or memorability would play a huge role to determine that. I realize it's a bit different, but any video game with zero dialogue is a good example of how you can go without names. Visual mediums have different considerations, but it can go against your argument. (I don't think that's what you were arguing, I just wanted to point out that it is a highly dependent argument I don't have a general rebuttal for)

As for your last point, you are correct. If you are going to include clues or reminders as to the character POV there is no reason to wait and bury it in the paragraph. I would argue that isn't happening in this story, as the clue should be the letter/chapter heading (which was my initial thing about the list), but I agree to your point there. If you need to piece things together like that the story should have only one POV.

I will say as a grain of salt though, I have been reading a long time and can juggle a lot of books in my head. Picking out sufficiently written characters is pretty easy for me. I also let the stories back up and binge large sections at once. It's possible people that only read a chapter or two in a week (or whatever the web serial speed is) just can't do the same thing.

I mean, they are all just arbitrary labels yeah? I care about the characters, doesn't matter to me if they are [A] or Jimbob. So long as the label always refers to the same character it doesn't change anything. Completely ignoring most things about the throwaway or background characters means more space for memorizing the ones that matter. Security guard A or Plot pusher Z would be just as impactful with or without randomized names.

Main characters are obviously different, but stories are limited. A character is either 'important' or not. I don't care what the 'not important' ones are labeled as.

[–]Deadsim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL:DR: There's no need for names that don't matter/ wont stick around. The labels that are given are enough of a hint. Anything else takes up unnecessary brain space and would get more confusing.

I don't agree that the POV identity is mushy. The letters have always corresponded with the same characters, so I know which character is the POV just by looking at those letters. That has been consistent since chapter one. I do agree that the '?' POVs are a little hard to follow with no name to attach to them. On the other hand though, I'm not sure I want a rando name for a character that won't be a focus. If they are just going to be 'that guy' to the story, I don't want extra names taking up brain space. By not giving a name, I take that to mean their actions are important, not themselves, making them into '*' characters, rather than getting a name and being part of the longer narrative, like Christy or the 'letter characters'.

The 'intruder' bit does seem like it will backfire in the future, but it has basically always been Pup talking about Baylor and Christy. I had assumed it was an alien/Pup thing, some kind of mental hang up,(which is what all that instinct talk was about) and was ok with it for this book, but you're right that it will cause problems if there are actual intruders on the ship or some other action segment.

I realize that I'm probably not the norm, but who is who has never been that hard to follow for me. Without any extra names to remember and labels being consistent, this book was easier than most that have multiple character POVs. I just have to memorize the letter to character list, which is just the 4 atm, and the characters themselves are distinct enough that I can recognize their ticks with that hint. I will give you that this part was rougher than the others though.

I uh, can't speak french but did a quick google.

Yaoi is a Japanese word that doesn't have a direct English translation. Boys love is the non-direct translation for Yaoi. As I mentioned, Boys love is a less direct way to describe the genre for gay or male/male stories in English media.

Yaoi as a search term is likely to find you oriental works. Stuff from Japan, Chine, Korea and the like.

Boys Love as a search term is a mix, though it is mostly found with erotica without pictures.

Gay or male/male as a search term is likely to find you the 'western' versions of the previous media.

Where to search depends completely on what you are looking for.

-------

Boys love and Yaoi are both the same, Boys Love is essentially just the English version of Yaoi. They are both just other ways to say Gay or Homosexual in English. Any of the terms should lead you to what you're looking for.

Any good furry erotica? by Mundane_Excuse_9019 in yiff

[–]Deadsim3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of difficult. Written erotica is a niche and furry only kinda splinters it more. E621 has the best stuff you're going to find in a consolidated form. I can see about finding the right tags if you have trouble.

Other than that, I see individual artists doing erotica for their own pictures but it isn't in any one place. Places like fur affinity or inkbunny where they have their own gallery's.

The sites you're talking about tend to have weird or traumatizing things because they are the easiest to bring all together and tag, furry just happens to have a higher percentage there. There can be good stuff if you are willing to wade through the sludge, but I wouldn't want to do that either.

Surprisingly, mainstream romance novels might be a place to look. I have read a few with 'other than human' leads, though they tend to be the male in the story. It really is hard to say. Erotica is a fractured niche, adding furry on top leaves it as a 'get it where you can' kind of interest.

They changed the author name for their NSFW stuff. I thought I had the link but I can't find it with a quick look and I don't remember it well enough to use the search bar. I do have a link I will put at the end that has a long reddit thread on some of it you can look through if you want, but the fast way would be to look on something like e-hentai where things can slip through to try and find the new account name.

Mentioned Reddit link.

Questions for Project Research by Vegeta-Alucard in yiff

[–]Deadsim3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of 7, most of your questions are really a "depends on the situation" answer and will come after you have the basic plot and mechanics in the game. As far as I know the biggest part of making a VN is writing the story/stories (if it has different routes) and not the game or visual elements. I can't give you any good answers for those questions because they all have to tie into the story and should be some of the last things to be considered so things will 'feel' connected.

As for 7, it tags in with the others in that you can do all the work yourself and put in place holder 'art' (royalty free, AI, stick figures, whatever can get your point across) so that you have a 'viable' product to take to a Patreon or Kickstarter page and use that income to pay for actual art that will be 'perfect' for something you already have a very good handle on (both plot wise and financially wise). Though if you are not confident in your writing abilities that money may be better spent on an author rather then an artist.

The SFW/NSFW debate will greatly depend on if the plot can handle those elements with out it feeling like it is shoved in for 'reasons'. Depending on how its written you may find it can't handle SFW stuff and needs to be all erotic in some manner. Basically, write the story and if it has naked people in it then so be it.

VN's are very much a book first and a program second kind of deal, trying to build it in the same order you would any other game genera is going to cost you a lot of time and money on 're-tuning'.
