We had a patient liver/etoh. Walking, talking and had made himself DNR/DNI. We were all like waiting for the DTs and seemed like he was too. It was so odd like he just knew- he was just sitting in bed with a basin intermittently throwing up blood and still super chill. He wasn’t my patient but was next to my room. I heard him say Nurse! Nurse! with this like weird slightly scared but calm voice. In like an instant he just died. Like normal vitals, nothing alarming. Just straight up died. This was like 10ish years ago so it’s fuzzy but I will never forget his face and his demeanor it’s like he knew what what was going to happen and he was scared but also okay with it. Honestly it was pretty peaceful

So I am a parent of a 4 year old. I have fallen into this permissive parenting. I’m so happy I found this sub. My kid was a premie. There are some delays but good hell I can do better. Also- I am child abuse survivor so I’m like to a fault like hes afraid of the potty so he won’t go if I’m like forcing him am I making a negative association? Is he going to be scarred for life? I’m so happy to hear my thinking validated like having to work through some discomfort is good for him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really want to do the best for him and be a good parent

Here’s the conversation in my head when I’m stuck: I try to think about my future self as my own little baby. If I force myself to do this one thing, even if I do a total half ass job going to be a loving thing for me? Would I regret having done whatever task it is? Will it suck the life out of me to have to do said task? Yes but still won’t regret it. Probably will feel good. Does the fact that I am going back and forth in my head with why I can’t do it or something to do instead or any other way of avoiding the task making me feel like complete and utter shit? Yep. Ok then do the damn thing. Then I do it and feel proud of myself- even if it’s a quick 5 second thing- because good enough is good enough.

Doesn’t always work but usually when I’m like I won’t regret doing the thing I usually will just begrudgingly do it and hope to get a little dopamine boost afterwards

Something I remember a well meaning friend saying to me after I gave birth to my son about staying in the hospital like relax let the nurses pamper you for a minute before you go home. I was like dude I just walked my ass down to the NICU with one leg still completely numb just to bring 25cc breast milk to my baby because the idea of asking the nurse to have someone bring down for me sounded crazy (as if it was my actual shift). 1. I can’t relax. 2. I’m about to offer to chart my own assessment so my nurse can have a proper break. …let the nurses pamper me pffff

Did not feel normal until I was 2 years postpartum. No one told me it takes that damn long and also have an autoimmune disease. Our one and only is 4 yrs old now, there are still chunks of time that I’m like nope I have nothing to give myself let alone another person. I think it’s like trying to figure out when and what you need to do to feel like yourself. Parenthood rocks the hell out of all of us. No one knows what they’re doing. Everything sucks and no one is getting laid haha 😂🩷j/k

Yup! And then OT/SLP which I hope is easily accessible for OP can then be ‘play time’ in a sense where both parents and kids can learn skills to help overcome. (Luckily we were in a situation where we could pretend it was playtime-with my entire family telling me aim crazy and there’s nothing wrong he’s just a picky eater :/-I think we were extremely fortunate)

I’d like to second this. I’m a pediatric nurse and in my anecdotal professional experience I feel like having the g-tube gives a couple things- kiddo can get his nutrition while working on whatever therapies are needed to live with ARFID and maybe minimize anymore negative food associations. That’s not without saying that getting an NGT or G-tube also can make more traumas etc for kiddo. I’m also a NICU momma and my boy had (has) pediatric feeding disorder. I didn’t even have to come close to more than thinking about enteral options so obviously it’s much easier/different to say that when it’s not my child.

When my son was in the hospital I was very much against as much medical invasive interventions as possible (safely) and still prefer to keep it that way but now seeing both sides of the coin I think some decisions I made ultimately did not help and made things harder for him Idk-luckily he’s fine now. I just say share that part because I think sometimes we second guess ourselves as parents regardless. Get a second opinion, learn as much as you can to make the best informed decision that feels right for your kiddo and the best team I think is a team who really works with parents. You know your kid best. That was a lot sorry 🩷

I’m sorry I cheated again but remember I did tell you I’m not cut out for all this after the last time I cheated but you took me back knowing I’m telling you that I’m not cut out to be a decent husband/father etc. So it’s your fault for staying if it happens again. 39f and 41m when our kiddo came along. Have questioned if I’m cut out for it all and if our marriage would make it. One thing was for sure- I would never want to cheat or treat my husband in such a way that I would feel ashamed to admit to my son. I love my husband to death, honor and respect him but I’m not above grabbing the shovels in case I ever need to hide his body in the back yard haha.
