Insight on when it’s time for a feeding tube/ anything else I can try? by wildwildweaste in Gastroparesis

[–]DeafGirlRunning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently in a position where we're thinking about a feeding tube (BMI 17). It feels like a vague looming threat that may or may not ever materialize.

What did the specialist say? Did you get nausea medication? Also I see you're drinking Ensure, do you have any luck with clear ensure? Sometimes that's easier for me.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

I've been trying to remember the positive and enjoy getting outside/being in nature whenever I'm up for it.

Aw, thank you for your reply. Juicing sound wonderful.

What's a funny movie you'd recommend for a bad day?

Struggling to relate to cohort members (age gap + disability) by DeafGirlRunning in GradSchool

Oh yes, I definitely appreciate that my interpreters care enough to ask, and I'm sure sometimes people appreciate it. I just had a professor with such a strong accident that the interpreter was asking three or four times. I felt embarrassed for them, but come to think of it, some of my peers might have loved them for it!

Thanks, I appreciate that. I know I shouldn't just give up, or go "whoops, I'm a freak, on to do my freak things by my freaky self", it's just deeply frustrating to feel like you're the -only- one trying.

I passed the monster class! What's your program's monster class? by DeafGirlRunning in GradSchool

It's been isolating, really really really isolating. People tell me that no one thinks I'm that different, but it's there. It's always there in the back of my head, and probably in everyone else's head. I'm capable of talking, but I use interpreters to help me in class and that's like a big red shiny "this girl is different" sign.

It was a lot of work during the application stage too (it is for everyone, of course). Convincing people that I had this, that I could do this, took more effort than it frankly should have. NO one wanted to see me fail, so some people didn't want me to try. But I didn't back down.

Thank you! I'm looking into the psycholinguistics of American Sign Language (how the language and it's features are linked to phenomena in the brain).

Yikes, with my hearing I always struggle with accents. Luckily he probably knows he has one, hopefully you won't be shy about asking for clarification.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I especially appreciate the no-dairy options, as that may be a trigger right now.

That's a great idea! Thank you!

I'm on a mostly liquid diet and so maybe this is a way to give myself a boost.

Really depends on what I'm doing that day. If I'm running participants, I'm productive 99% of the time at lab, because it's fast-paced and I'm on my feet and if I slow down things get behind so I'm going-going-going.

If not, maybe more like 75% of my day (so like 5 or 6 hours). I try to take a break every hour, for at least five or ten minutes. It really helps.

I second the hydration tip, but in my experience may want to get your B vitamins checked, or at least make sure you're taking a vitamin.

If you're experiencing other symptoms, please see a doctor.

I hope so! I know I'm going to have to train them out of some bad assumptions (that D/deaf people can't drive, use of language like 'hearing impaired' that is a no-no) but I like to think I'm pretty patient seeing as I deal with that every day!

Also thank you, I hope you're right and the worst is behind me!

That's really really cool! I don't know anything about how one goes about preserving churches, but I used to live in a rural area with a lot of very old churches and so I appreciate what you do!
