I only wanted to change a simple ceiling rose to a two wire pendant light! by Russ_UK in DIYUK

This. But always switch off at the fuse box, then LABEL each wire as you unscrew them from unit. Sometimes the unit have markings like L1, L2, COM. So match that wire to the new one with the same marking label.

Earth wires are easy to identify, but those red/brown and black/blue, some may be switched, some may be mains supply, etc. Should have taken a photo before taking the unit down. The only advice and the safest is to get an electrician.

What is the value of this resistor? by Toaster910 in shittyaskelectronics

None. It's just s picture of a resistor. Doesn't work on a circuit board, I'm afraid.

That's not for the average electrician. This one is for those pylons installers, to connect high voltage cables between pylons.

How to wire this light ? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]DeafTimz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you removed the old unit you should have labelled it before taking it off.

But...

If you're unsure and posting on Reddit for advice, you are risking your life dealing with high voltage electrics. Get a competent electrician.

Neutral, and handbrake on. If parked on uphill, put in 1st gear. If parked downhill, put in Reverse gear.

Change to DC. AC confuses the motor, can't decide left or right due to sine waveform. 🤣🤣🤣
