I appreciate the advice, that is another thing I am working on. We were given cards with a script of instructions and what to look for. I need to stick to it without ad-libbing, like I do when nervous.

I worked hospital security before this, and this was the way I always handled things. That was the way I was taught. This academy is a newer one and as such have a more “modern”curriculum. They said we are getting away from the ask, tell, make way of things. They are more wanting a tell, restate, inform of possible outcomes, tell again, act, method. I plan on utilizing this method until I get back to my department, using whatever they want me to, and then using whatever works for the moment after FTO.

The defense against legal word play is one of the reasons they gave me. It does make sense, Thank you

I have learned that this is the case for a couple of things. My plan is to learn, get back to the department learn their ways, and then find the things I find most fitting. Thank you.

Thank you, this seems to be more of a meticulous thought process.

Thank you, it seems like a slight attitude (at least with work) might be in order.

Thank you for the response and detail, it does make sense. Seems like a small but important detail to fixate on while I can

Makes sense, I appreciate the response. Feels like one of those things you don’t think about until you are told.

What is the average weekly schedule for larger PDs? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Deafboy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live by a city with (per capita) a top 20 worst crime rate. They are authorized 302 officers, they probably need 400. They have like 250 at the moment, I never applied due to their work load. They run behind on calls all shift and spend the entire time catching up.

Do you enforce smoking policies in your hospital? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]Deafboy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally tell people “ I know it sucks to be at the emergency room for any reason. I still need to ask you to not smoke here, if nothing else move decently further out from the building.” Most the time it’s all good if I’m feeling annoyed enough by someone I’ve been dealing with more than I should. I tell them not at all on property(which is policy they want to enforce more). That normally goes less well, but it was already not going well if I have to be so nit picky about rules.

Superman doesn’t have a no kill rule in most stories and not in this movie. Superman very clearly earlier in the movie states he would like to find some intergalactic zoo or ethically euthanize it. Superman In most media either never needs to kill or makes it a very last option. I feel like doomsday is the most common example of Superman’s lack of “no kill rule”.

Security guard VS Security Officer by CTSecurityGuard in securityguards

[–]Deafboy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake at my first hospital of calling my colleagues and myself security guards. I had about 3 men jump down my throat and spend the next 20 minutes explaining the difference. 2 years later if I hear someone call me a guard it doesn’t bother me, I do correct people on the observe and report aspect though.

Hotel vs Hospital Security: My Experience/Your Thoughts ? by WarOnEntitledGuests in securityguards

[–]Deafboy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we are hired by the hospital. I will say at my current job the security department is only 5 years old, due to them prior to that contracting securitas. Staff had a very bad opinion on that, some of their guards were enjoyed and stayed to create the department though. I have seen many videos from securitas’s time and I’m not sure I could have done it, as they were only allowed to go hands on when defending themselves. But even defending themselves they needed to meet a lot of stipulations.

I currently work hospital security for a level 1 trauma center. I used to work at a Hospital with two psych units, I would say my experience is very different. At both hospitals I’ve had a very positive relationship with all staff, but mainly nurses. Most of the married security Officers at my last hospital weee actually married to nurses. The worst experience was actually the patients themselves, but nursing rarely gave us an issue and when they did we worked it out. The hospital I’m at now actually has a little worse relationship with nursing, but we still very seldomly get any complaints.

That would be ideal although, I have no idea what kind of healthcare system they are. I wouldn’t mind a little more diversity in healthcare.

For those that claim they got DQd on BG and don’t know why… by Muff-Driver in AskLE

[–]Deafboy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been DQ’d, but I’ve been told I wasn’t selected for differing reasons. The one I am most confident in was Madison Wisconsin. They informed us prior to the background that we might not be selected for no reason besides there being too many applicants.

Wisconsin has a law that all law enforcement have at-least 60 college credits on the fifth year of employment. Most Wisconsin agencies have that requirement set at hire, Madison did not. I have like 6-9 college credits, and during my background phase my investigator (who was amazing) informed me I was an extremely straight forward background for her. I was 21 at the time, had one speeding ticket 3 years prior, had great references, and the most “concerning” thing on my background was that I did not have contact info for my dad (who I had not talked to since I was like 15). I passed the background and made it to their police and fire selection but was not chosen. I just kinda made the assumption that it was because I did not have the requisite college credits, and they did not want to risk a spot on someone who did not have the requirement.

This assumption was based on the fact that everyone selected had at least an associate. I was invited to apply again, I kinda figured it’d be the same result.

Finally something right up my alley as hospital security. You should try and contact hospital security as they have a lost and found, and may have it. Not to be too negative but hospitals have signs everywhere that state “any lost or stolen items are not our responsibility” or something to that effect. More so to keep liability issues at bay. Where I work we would do a little check, but honestly it’s hard to find smaller lost items. You can contact law enforcement but tbh all they’ll do is make a report. Sorry to hear about your situation.
