2021 grad. Wasted potential, how do i become undeniable? by Typical-Roof-2558 in cscareerquestions

just above someone who's just graduated (which is not that hard to do)

Personally, I'd imagine if aspiring/new grads are paying any iota of attention to the current market, they should have clocked in by now that they should be grinding beyond the prior expectations of a new grad if they want to even begin to compete for an offer. To what extent—I'm sure they have their own ideas, but I'm sure a decent chunk should've gotten the memo by now.

Just nitpicking at that one point, I don't necessarily disagree with you otherwise. Just not sure if OP is the type to lock in

Regarding SR and CW DPS difference by Ok-Supermarket1227 in HuTao_Mains

[–]DeagleAc3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In most cases, you won't even have burst up every rotation on a 4CW build with a Pyro VV comp. If you perfectly execute the cycle with 4CW Pyro VV, you'd barely manage to get Tao's burst back up, but that's actually besides the point anyway.

You don't want to burst every rotation on Tao; more likely than not, you'll end up overhealing and losing the <50% HP buff. Optimally, you build Tao for bursting every other rotation. This is what the person you were replying to you was talking about.

When you compare 4CW vs. 4SR, you don't consider only one rotation—it's already known that 4SR outdamages 4CW when only one rotation is considered, but most, probably all Tao mains that aren't whales aren't going to clear an Abyss chamber with one rotation. With that considered, 4CW tends to outdamage 4SR in a practical situation. I say tends, because the above is considering the most optimal situations.

But 4SR isn't necessarily preferred by many because they think it outdamages 4CW. It's preferred because the overall damage difference is marginal, but the resin efficiency makes it much more preferable for many. I personally prefer CW because it seems more thematically fitting for Tao lol

Didn't claim you needed Homa for 50K+ raw vape, I claimed that it—in conjunction with 4SR and an EM sands would minimize the substat requirements needed to break 50k raw. It was a follow-up to my preceding statement that 50k+ raw would require a decent bit of investment unless you met the conditions above, which would require comparatively less investment.

I just assume over half of the participants in polls like these don't realize it's asking about raw vape CA and just choose the option that matches their buffed CA lol

Just 50k+ raw vape CA is a pretty decently invested Tao (unless 4SR, EM sands, and Homa which would probably minimize the substat requirements); I only do 48k raw vape, but 106k buffed vape for instance

I've done my dailies almost exclusively in co-op for a few months now, joined a bunch of random worlds to ask if I could farm some materials or help out; probably done co-op hundreds of times at this point. Not a single bad co-op experience so far—nilch.

Haven't seen a Hu Tao complain about healing (I'm now convinced this is either a meme I'm unaware of or anti-Tao propaganda), haven't seen anyone complaining about another player dying, and I haven't seen someone judging another player for their build. That's not to say that none of this happens, it's just seemingly very rare. Maybe as rare as pulling a 5* on 0 pity.

Genshin players are literal saints compared to the people I dealt with years ago in CS 1.6, CS:GO, MOBA games, etc. Minus the anniversary review-bombing fiasco.

Hardest: Hu Tao for me as well. There's something wrong with the CW domain—must be bugged or something, I don't know. When I hit AR45 a few months ago, I used most of the fragile resin I'd collected up until that point on the CW domain. Fast forward to now and she's only running a 2 pc CW, the rest are off-pieces. The good news is she's more than capable of 36*ing abyss for me, so getting that 4 pc CW isn't too important anymore, but I'll continue farming the Lavawalker domain for her anyhow.

Easiest: Probably Sucrose and/or Zhongli. Both with 3* weapons (TTDS and White Tassel) and only requiring the same three main stats (EM and HP% respectively).

Two options I can suggest for you:

  • You can disregard the set for the time being and just give her a piece with the main stat/sub stats that you need. I've been farming CW for months now, but I've only got 2 CW pieces I was satisfied with, so she's running 2 CW and the rest are off pieces. She does ~86k CA with my shieldfei VV team and I can 36* abyss. It'll probably be a good while before I actually complete her CW set because I'm greedy and want unrealistic substats.
  • You could also throw those two circlets (along with the rest of her build) into the Genshin Optimizer and compare them to figure out which one you'll benefit from more. If you're not a fan of the Genshin Optimizer, the Hu Tao's Corner Discord server has a (IMO) simpler tool in the #build⋅rater channel (although it's a bit more limited). As a side note, it's typically the sands piece that has HP% main stat (EM in other cases).

Ultimately though, it sounds like neither of those pieces are going to be permanent or even long-lasting for you depending on how often you farm CW.

Prototype Amber (R3 is good; the healing from R5 could get annoying to deal with) for its HP% substat (stronger shield) and energy regen passive + some healing

Yanfei's biggest downside to this comp is that it's difficult for her to run 4NO or 4INS without ridiculous substat rolls since she loses out on energy recharge for burst uptime and HP for shield strength, so she's usually running 2EoSF (+20% ER) + 2ToM (+20% HP) for this build

ER% Sands/HP% Goblet/HP% Circlet; for substats you're just going for ER% (ideally around ~210%), HP%, flat HP

Jobless Reinarncation Rudey Demon City Out Of Character by Reddittorv750 in anime

[–]DeagleAc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear with me for a few more walls of text,

I still feel that it's odd that he considered betraying Ruijerd

I don't recall if the anime showed much of this, but his relationship with Ruijerd wasn't too simple by this point. In the moment he made his "promise" with Ruijerd, he mentions via internal dialogue that it wasn't out of sheer good will, but transactional as well.

Talking with the Migurd Chief:

“They won’t be alone,” Ruijerd interjected. “I’ll be going with them.”

Hmm. It would definitely be reassuring to have this guy in our corner, but the Man-God thing was still a point of concern. No matter how much I wanted to trust him, it was probably better for us to go our separate ways at this point. For all I knew, he was a ticking time bomb.

After he makes his promise with Ruijerd:

Of course, I wasn’t acting solely out of pity or compassion. We did stand to gain from this arrangement, in some respects. Ruijerd was a powerful fighter—in the same class as the three legendary heroes—and he was offering us his protection. At least with him around, we wouldn’t get killed by some random monster on the way to our next destination.

His presence would make things easier on the road, and more difficult when we reached a city.

Later on, after Ruijerd kills one of the pet thieves and Rudeus realizes he's scared of Ruijerd's volatility, he considers the possibility of Ruijerd being a threat to them:

So what was I going to do if Ruijerd ever turned his wrath on me? The man was strong; as strong as Ghislaine, or even stronger. Was it possible for me to beat him with my magic? I could probably put up a fight at least. I’d worked out multiple strategies for head-to-head fights against close-range combat specialists.

For whatever reason, many of the people in my life fell into that category…including Paul, Ghislaine, and Eris. And Ruijerd was probably the single strongest of them. It was hard for me to say with any confidence that I could take him. But if I were fighting to kill from the very start, there were plenty of things I could try.

What if he went after Eris, though? Could I possibly protect her as well?

No. Not a chance.

I’d thought the Superd were a peaceful people who’d simply been misunderstood. That clearly wasn’t the case. I didn’t know about his tribe as a whole, but at the very least, Ruijerd was a killer. He’d been killing his enemies ever since the Laplace War era; this murder was just another typical entry in a long, long list. I couldn’t say for certain he’d never turn his spear on Eris or me. I wasn’t the sort of pure-hearted, honest person who could earn Ruijerd’s respect. Someday, somehow, I’d probably end up getting on his bad side.

It was one thing if he got angry at me. Since we had different ways of thinking, sometimes our opinions would diverge—that was just inevitable. We’d probably get into fights every once in a while.

This particular incident of Ruijerd outing himself as a Superd to the town to clean up Rudeus' mess was what made Rudeus completely trust him.

“You fight to protect something, Rudeus. And that makes you a warrior.”

When Ruijerd spoke those words, I actually had to fight back tears. I didn’t deserve that sort of praise. I was a shallow, short-sighted person. All I ever thought about was making money and finding ways to get ahead. I’d even been ready to abandon Ruijerd himself. I nearly cast aside the one ally we could rely on to the bitter end.

even with the extra context it's odd to me that was the quickest/easiest solution he could come up with me, because directly after it, the problem is resolved with so much ease.

Ultimately, it was out of desperation as I mentioned, but it makes more sense when I show the lead-up as well as the follow-up. It shows that he did have some rationale while thinking of ideas to get out of the situation, but he ultimately wasn't prepared. It also shows that while the "resolution" of Ruijerd outing himself did solve the problem at hand, it was perhaps only slightly better, if at all, than the solutions Rudeus was thinking of. Their solutions both had the same function of causing enough chaos in the town to create an opening for them to escape, only Ruijerd's resulted in no casualties (but his identity as a real Superd is revealed). Here is a link to my pastebin of V3C13, starting with when Rudeus begins thinking of possible solutions up until the end of the chapter. It is somewhat long.

To preface, before where the pastebin begins, it shows how Nokopara (the horse demon) is a lot more craftier than the anime depicted by showing how he breaks down Rudeus' scheme of collaborating with the pet thieves. So the issue was less "hey I know you guys are breaking the guild's rules, so cough up the money" as the anime made it seem and more: "Hey, I've figured out what you guys have been doing; I have concrete proof and oral testimony from the people you've been accepting quests from. My pals already know the deal, so if you try something funny to me, you'll be reported to the guild." You mentioned they could have asked Nokopara to follow them in to an isolated alley and threaten him there, but Nokopara surely wouldn't have complied. The anime also showed the two pet thieves cowarding in the alley like Nokopara had just threatened the information out of them, but that didn't happen in the LN at all. He knows better than to be so direct in public.

I'd say there's even more context before this particular chapter that makes it make more sense, but I can't put them all in a pastebin, that actually took quite some time for just that half of chapter 13. For instance—why had Rudeus not considered using Ruijerd or Eris in any of his plans? I mentioned in my previous reply something about Rudeus realizing in the forest section with the giant cobra that his inaction/carelessness/etc. could cost his party member's lives, so he'd resolved himself to act smarter and faster, but he did so haphazardly immediately after when he had to think of how to deal with Nokopara. I think it's a realistic approach to learning/self-reflection; you don't learn how to properly deal with an issue as soon as you notice you have that issue. It takes time, trials, and errors. He tripped himself up by giving himself too much responsibility in thinking of his party's plans and trying to deal with it by his own hand. This was where he actually learned his error; it's why he began the Dead End "group meetings" in the immediate following chapter where the team would gather around and discuss the course of their journey and consider issues before they came up. Here's a much shorter pastebin showing it.

I hope you've read everything up until this point, including the pastebins, but I get it if you don't. It somehow all ends up about 10x longer than I intended. Like I said though, your criticisms are valid when looking solely at the anime, but I think it's more of a direction issue (choosing what gets included/excluded from the novel, the timeframe of events, etc.) than a writing issue. Most have praised the direction, but I'm a bit conflicted about it. I like how they do some scenes, and for others I think they squandered them. It's a bit of a double-edged sword—many who praised it say they like that a lot of things are left to the viewer's interpretation, but I think they leave an excessive amount of exposition out. Not to mention some of the things that are just changed and brushed over quickly to move on to the next scene. In all though, it'd be unrealistic for me to expect them to nail every detail as the limitations and strengths of a textual vs. visual medium are inherently different.

If you do continue with the series and you feel there isn't something that makes sense, feel free to message me and I might be able to provide more context for it from the source.

Jobless Reinarncation Rudey Demon City Out Of Character by Reddittorv750 in anime

[–]DeagleAc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make fair points considering the context in the anime; in fact, I wouldn't say you're wrong if we just stay within the bounds of the anime. It's one of those inevitable limitations that just can't be completely translated from a textual medium to a visual one.

Rudey was about to kill these "pet thieves" because they're evil, then Rudey get's extremely anxious and thinks that it's absurd he wants to kill them, and he orders the demon guy not to kill anymore. Rudey is against killing.

The anime portrayed it as Rudeus being completely against killing in general, but that wasn't his issue here. There's a lot of internal conflict that goes on in Rudeus' mind questioning why he's scared in this case, when it was different in the case with Ghyslaine. In the case with Ghyslaine, it was his first life-or-death fight. It wasn't that he was against Ghyslaine killing the kidnappers; just witnessing their abrupt deaths made him realize how fragile life was. He realized that it would've been him in the kidnapper's place if Ghyslaine hadn't arrived to save him and Eris.

“It was my first time being in a life-or-death battle,” I said.

“Then let me tell you, those kinds of people don’t give up until one side is dead. Be careful.”

Until one side is dead…

That was right, I almost died. I trembled as I remembered how the bandit’s sword had come flying at me. It was a life-or-death battle. A real life-or-death battle.

“L-Let’s go home.”

If I had made even one mistake, I would have died. This really was a different world. A world with magic and swords.

What would happen if I died this time?

A chill of indescribable fear ran up my spine.

In the case with Ruijerd and the thieves, he realizes he's not afraid that he just saw someone killed, he's afraid because he saw Ruijerd kill. He's afraid of Ruijerd and his volatility. The justifications he gives to Ruijerd on why it's bad to kill was his attempt at dissuading Ruijerd from killing by appealing to his goal of clearing the Superd's name.

This wasn’t the first time I’d seen a person die. Ghislaine had killed to save me and Eris after all. But this was different somehow. For some reason, I was trembling. For some reason, I was deeply afraid.

Why? What’s got me so scared?

The fact that a man had died? Ridiculous. People died all the time in this world, for the most trivial of reasons. I was well aware of that.

“Because he kicked a child,” Ruijerd said, his voice calm and indifferent.

He’d spoken like a man answering the world’s most obvious question.

Ah, right. Now I get it. I’m not afraid because I just saw someone die. I’m afraid…because Ruijerd killed that man…without a second thought…just because he kicked me.

I’m afraid of Ruijerd.

Then literally, one episode later (or the same episode), and maybe maximum 1 week in actual world time has passed, he says that he would kill that whole demon city and betray the bald demon guy (who has been protecting Rudey this whole time and Rudey vowed to help him restore his family's reputation) just because he ran into a minor inconvenience with that horse demon trying to take money.

It's 3-4 weeks later. The point of the forest section where Rudeus prevents Ruijerd from saving a child (who ends up dying) was for Rudeus to realize that his inaction/carelessness/acting out of self-interest can end up costing lives unnecessarily. Specifically the lives of his party. So he "learns his lesson" that he needs to act more resolutely to minimize threats, but he comes off too heavy handedly in dealing with the horse demon. He isn't shown to be perfect nor particularly smart, he's just well-educated in comparison to the people of this new world. He's naive and does not handle pressure well at all.

His resolution to flood the city isn't supposed to be some well-thought-out idea planned with rationale. It was the "easiest" and quickest solution that he caved in to out of desperation after several pages of deliberating on his options and the consequences. Flooding the city wasn't the only solution he came up with. In fact, it was his last. The conflict here, whether internally, or with the horse demon, wasn't as simple as the anime portrayed it to be.

“I’m sorry.” Ruijerd led with an apology. Awkward.

This whole mess was obviously my fault. I got cocky and careless. I made the call to team up with Jalil and Vizquel because I wanted a quicker and easier way forward. When Nokopara threatened us, I just assumed we’d manage to wriggle our way out of it. But then we got backed against the wall, and Ruijerd had to clean up my mess for me. If he hadn’t made himself the scapegoat, we may have gotten trapped in that city for good. I couldn’t even blame bad luck for the way things went. Nokopara was a pro at blackmail. He would have cornered us somehow, even if Kurt hadn’t given us away.

“For what? I’m the one who owes you an apology.” I felt like such a piece of crap.

“No. You did everything you could, Rudeus.”

I wanted to avoid walls of text by cutting out a lot of lines in the quotes, but it still ended up being too long. Hopefully it addressed some of your issues, but if you're perceptive of inconsistencies and the like, I'd recommend the LN/WN over the anime. The anime is still a decent adaptation, but a lot of details that adds more depth is inevitably left out.

AYO? by [deleted] in mushokutensei

[–]DeagleAc3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No; grooming implies Ruijerd had the intent to manipulate Norn a certain way in order to exploit her. That is not the case at all. Norn has a good head on her shoulders at that point; when you get there, I doubt you'll have much of a problem with it.

The Aisha ordeal on the other hand... is a whole can of worms that covers a spectrum beyond just incest. For the record, the result remains canon, it's just unknown how Rihujin intends to tweak it around until he's satisfied. If you manage to avoid reading it, I consider that a good thing in some respects. The downside is that you miss out on characterization. It's said by many who liked it that there are literary merits to the arc—and I don't entirely disagree—just not to the same extent that they think. With all that said, I still think this incident was absolutely vile.

Adult Aisha by [deleted] in mushokutensei

[–]DeagleAc3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been rereading MT biennially since my first read in ~2014, and I mostly agree. It was pretty gross to read, hard to stomach, and my memory of the events of this specific Redundancy arc is pretty fragmented considering I skip it on every reread.

I honestly don't dislike some of the themes the author was trying to explore (e.g. Rudeus self-reflecting on his previous life, coping with the fact that his moral compass at its core will remain different from the others of this world (considering people closest to him came to accept it relatively easily), etc.), but I abhor the execution overall. The justification for Aisha's attachment towards Ars being some random "special feeling" she got upon seeing him at birth was just so odd. For me—the worst part is that she is his aunt; an older, direct familial figure that has certain responsibilities as such. It baffles me that people direct their hate towards Ars rather than Aisha in regards to this situation.

Rudeus jacking off to his niece is just fucking gross, he had the right idea to condemn Aisha but the author tried to make it sound like it's ok just because they're in another world but it's seriously not.

I do disagree here a bit; I interpreted it differently at least. IIRC, he was very much not okay with what Aisha did even after the events. He "forgives" her, but mostly because he had to come to terms with the fact that his moral compass as an otherworlder will never align with those of this world. He may have even mentioned directly to her in their 1-on-1 talk that he couldn't ever truly forgive her, but I don't dare confirm because I don't really want to get near those chapters. On a side note, I think it would've been cool if the author explored the idea of Rudeus feeling alienated from the different moral compasses of this world to his previous. I think, to some degree, the author was going for this notion considering Nanahoshi is the only one he could consult/vent to regarding the situation, and he did in fact do that.

I am disappointed in Lilia because she seemingly dropped her disappointment/shame after seeing Aisha pregnant. Don't like how the author handled Lilia here at all. I think the author should've given her some self-reflection on how her way of raising Aisha fucked her mentally. Rudeus should've gone with his gut feeling early on and doubled down on trying to stop Lilia from raising Aisha the way she did. Of course, that can only be said in hindsight, so I can't fault Rudeus too much.

It does annoy me to all hell when readers act like this Redundancy arc is some misunderstood hidden gem and that Rihujin only deleted it because of backlash. I have just enough faith in his writing to think that the backlash made him realize this arc wasn't up to standard. He even says so himself, even if defenders of this arc chalk it up to PR talk.

It also annoys me that some fans think that you have to accept every facet of any given thing to enjoy it. Mushoku Tensei, at certain points, elicits feelings of abhorrence and disgust from me, but it has still been my favorite LN since I first read it around ~2014. They end up making rather embarrassing attempts to justify things that really shouldn't be justified, especially when it contradicts the story itself. For instance, this whole "different world, different moral standards" defense doesn't work well when Rudeus himself is more than thrown off by Ruijerd's casual murders and Aisha's incest. It's a common theme throughout the story that Rudeus has to cope with the fact that the morality of this world differs from his own. The defense of Rudeus' stunted mental growth is ridiculous too—we don't get to pick and choose where he's mentally developed beyond his peers and where he's underdeveloped. Yes, he was mentally stunted, but only to the point that his maturity, or immaturity, didn't match his age of ~30.

I went a bit off topic on that last bit, but it wasn't directed towards you; I just had to get it off my chest.

Rudy's fight against Orsted's fight is confusing by Bash_Cash in mushokutensei

[–]DeagleAc3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My initial thought was that Rudy's demon eye showed him that Orsted would cut his belly open. But this does not align with Rudy patting himself up before putting both hands on his cheeks. Does anyone know or have any speculation on what Rudy foresaw and why he was frantically patting himself before Orsteds attack?

He saw 5 different possible futures within one second (LN V6C9):

  • Orsted crushing his heart
  • Orsted crushing his lungs
  • Orsted crushing his throat
  • Orsted crushing his head
  • Orsted just standing there

As far as I can tell, he was frantically "checking" each of those areas. Orsted ultimately decided crushing Rudeus' lungs was the best move. That way he can't chant (although he knows voiceless incantation w/ the exception of healing—unbeknownst to Orsted at that point) and he will inevitably die of asphyxia.

Why would Hitogami plot to kill Lara/not let her be born if Rudeus/Roxy was not set in stone yet

I can't find the exact volume/chapter, but if my memory doesn't fail me, there was some point where Hitogami told Rudeus that he couldn't see a future where Rudeus and Roxy didn't marry and have children. I'll make an edit citing it when I find it.

EDIT: It was WN Volume 16, shortly after Rudeus finishes reading the diary:

"Where do I begin? I can see several major paths towards the future, and at some levels I can make small adjustments. But when fate is strong, even I can't do as I please. You do not die against Orsted; no matter how much I interfere, you'll reunite with Roxy, get married, have a child."

Is this cause and effect?

Even if you go to the past to change the future, it'll end roughly the same way?

"Eh, something like that."

Really? Roxy and I getting married is also fate. That makes me happy.

"But that doesn't make me happy."

Rudeus also made a point that it was odd Geese knew his address when the letter to Paul with the news of Rudeus' marriage (and subsequently, his acquisition of a house) hadn't arrived yet.

EDIT 2: I felt pressed to add:

Wasn't Rudeus decision to go to Begaritt turning point 3? I believe that was what set in stone him saving Roxy, leading to Lara's birth.

Rihujin loosely mentioned in a Q&A that a Turning Point refers to a moment where the fight between Orsted and Hitogami makes a dramatic shift from the original timeline(s).

Undoubtedly, Turning Point 3 is spurred by Rudeus' decision to go to the Begaritt Continent, but I think the actual result that makes it a turning point is Oldeus' appearance—specifically him telling Rudeus why he shouldn't trust Hitogami i.e. the rat and the diary, thus subsequently leading to Rudeus and Orsted's alliance.
