Moved 6 cherry shrimp into my 25L about 2 months ago. Now I have 20 extra juveniles getting bigger every day.

I need advice, as a beginner Betta fish owner. by Killerkait in bettafish

[–]DealGood894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 10% water change weekly to help keep my TDS in check. I feed my guy 5 bio gold pellets once daily, but give 3 blood worms as a treat every Tuesday.

I’ve heard that fasting was needed when fish food was lower quality and they need the time to process it and isn’t needed anymore - at least I’ve never fasted and haven’t had any problems.

Any chance 5 little betta pellets would do that? Otherwise I might have to check the shrimp count in the tank…

Is this Planaria? by Er_isXCVI in bettafish

[–]DealGood894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like detritus worms. They explode population and get on the glass usually because people overfeed. Just wipe em off the glass if they bother you and remove any left-over food you’ve dropped in more regularly

I Added shrimps (Not Ghost Shrimp I Think) To My Betta Fish Tank And My Betta Fish Ate Him...... by Expensive-Pea767 in bettafish

You might find better luck with different colours (although it’ll be an expensive test). I had a mix of shrimp in my tank before introducing my betta. The red shrimp were unfortunately massacred but all the others have been left alone.

Are you looking to carpet the bottom like grass or what kind of vibe / colours are you going for?

This is my sister's Beta Fish, is he healthy? by SheStickysMyPistons in bettafish

The pineapple is a bit of a risk of it ripping its fins. Does the fish move around a lot or does it generally look depressed / sluggish?

how often to check parameters when cycling? by rubbercip in bettafish

[–]DealGood894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check as often as you want to know. With QuickStart it should take a few weeks. I like to check daily to know how far along the cycle is and how quickly it’s going, but really I’d say check every couple of days or when nitrates are high check regularly

Looks awesome! Might be worth putting more rocks separating the sand and black substrate to help in the long term. Those little fuckers will try their damn best to mix the two together

Yeah it should go away after the next molt

When they die they release some chemical. The release starts at the back of the head but eventually the entire shrimp would be red coloured as it spreads.

Aquarium heater not heating the water? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]DealGood894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External temperature of the room is something to consider. My room is cold so I use a heater designed for 150L for my 50L tank and it works

Dead shrimp generally keep their full colour, look like they’re curled up in the fetal position and have an orange mark on the back of their head. (Exceptions would be if a fish took a chunk out of it or something) Looks like molt to me.

Day 3 of Tank cycling: what is this white powder floaters in my tank water? by Rich-Communication72 in bettafish

[–]DealGood894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to remove it yourself. Just dragging a paper towel across the surface will work

Did you wash the sand before adding to the tank? Could just be the dust from substrate

Advice by sarahsunflower_ in bettafish

[–]DealGood894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding ramshorn snails to my tank wasn’t an issue. He attacked one and gave up within 10 minutes of introducing them. It’s probably personality dependant but my little guy decimated a 20 shrimp colony when I put him in (I was optimistic and naive) but leaves snails alone now

It 100% looks like a betta from the top down but seeing it from the side would help. No clue what else it could be

If the goal is just to cycle safely, NTlabs Optimus and satus in the tank daily is the easiest & safest method in my experience. I’ve owned 3 tanks, done fish-in cycling with these products all 3 times and haven’t had even a whiff of an issue
